A hugely enjoyable "man on the run" novel, Moving Target is the story of Dougherty, a bushman living in the wilderness on the southern part of New Zealand during World War II. When he is drafted, he finds the regimented, brutally restrictive military life anathema to him, and returns to the wild. The military don't take well to desertion, of course, and what results in a tense battle between them and a man who has made the wild his home.

Another very old book but I quite enjoyed it. Dougherty is on the run from the Army and it's fascinating to learn of his tricks and ruses to keep himself from being recaptured. It keeps you wondering all through the book as to how it's going to end.
