When out of his league Lilly Warner lands in his shop he finds himself not only outclassed but outmanned. Can he outlive his past indiscretions and hang on for the ride?
I did like it but I really feel sorry for authors when there are lumbered under the "its like KA" banner. Straight away, we die-hard KA fans think GREAT.... and then we read it and we realise that it is not like KA. As I have said in previous reviews KA in unique .... but enough about Ms Ashley - this book was written by Ms Avery. It was a good read. Liked the characters. As I am writing this i cannot even remember the Hero's name - now that is not good. Not sure if I will be getting the next in the series. As I said it is so hard for new authors to live up to expectations of us book lovers who have certain Favourite authors. Actually it would be a 3.5.... and just remembered his name is Bobby JACKSON, he sure ain't no TATE Jackson.
Rarely have i... in fact NEVER have i compared another author to my favorite author of all time; Kristen Ashley, but today is a first for me... today is the day that i'm going to go out on a limb and possible incur some derision for this and i'm going to say that Ms Avery's debut effort; Rough Ride is quite possibly in the same category as Ms Ashley's books for me!!!! (And those of you that know me, know that, that is a HUGE COMPLIMENT coming from me!)
Rough Ride had everything!!! A tattooed, bad boy biker who likes to talk dirty yet has a really sweet heart, an uptight (at first) heroine who loosens ups and turns out to be one gutsy woman and a whole cast of secondary characters of whom i am TOTALLY excited about, seeing as this book is the first in the series; i'm assuming that the other 3 books to come - Slow Ride, Wild Ride and Long Ride, will probably be about Chuck, Tommy and Dickie!!!! *SQUEAL* I haven't been this excited for a series in a LONG TIME!!!!
So, well done Ms Avery!!! A HUGE 5 stars for your debut and like i said, i CANNOT WAIT to read the rest of the series!!!! BRING IT ON, I SAY :)
A great story... as with all bikers I enjoyed it. This is not a story about MC but about a biker garage who do custom work on biker. It's not about a rough life of an MC and old ladies but of a rough, womanizing-no-more garage owner Bobby and his falling sweetly & madly in love with Lilly. Lilly who ran away from NY after her husband's death which shed some ugly truth on her life with him that included a Ponzi Scheme and big FBI investigation.
Totally worth a read... definitely looking to read more of the series.
LORD HAVE MERCY I NEED ME A BIKER RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rough Ride is another great read with a hot as hell biker with an attitude and a way with words. Lord Bobby Jackson's words are a direct line to a women's G-Spot! He is hot sex on a platter and being with him is both scary and thrilling. Tall, dark, and handsome and all the bad boy makings! Woo hoo so when he meets straight laced Lilly his world is turned upside down and he is not sure why it has been. Bobby can have any woman he wants and he has had his fair share but when Lilly comes into his life and the guys lives there is no denying he is in over his head.
Lilly is starting her life over in Florida with her sister. Her husband has died and she wants to start a new life and do the things she has always wanted to do. On her way to Florida she breaks down on the side of the highway and when a tow truck pulls up she is excited until the guy gets out and he is full of tattoos and wearing biker boots and a biker chain. At first she is scared but then she warms up to him and when she gets to the car shop she is both thrilled and scared by who she meets there.
But once she is there she meets Bobby's grandmother and decides to help her out with the shop. As time goes on she becomes one of the gang and she is running the office for Bobby.Just as she is trying to stay away from Bobby they share one passionate night and the next night he disappears so she decides she will not put much stock in Bobby since he is a hit it and quit it biker. Hurt and feeling all alone she gets a call from the detective who helped her out with her case. He asks her for help putting away the other guys that helped with the scheme her husband was involved with. She agrees because Bobby has left her and she feels used. She leaves and goes back to New York to help out with the case but her heart is not in it because she misses Bobby and the guys. She misses Dickie, Tommy, and Chuck.
As she gets what she needs for the police she goes back to Florida to see where she stands with Bobby. When the guys see her again they hug her and welcome her back into fold like she has not missed a beat. But trouble follows her and she and the gang are in danger. What will happen between her and Bobby? Will he be there for her or will he have moved on? Will danger follow her to Florida? What will happen to her sister? Is there life in Florida for her? Is there love in Florida for her?
This is a MUST READ! So get your strawberries and wine out and get ready to meet bad boy extraordinaire Bobby Jackson!
All I have to say is... if you're (YOU ARE) going to write a book please learn the difference between YOUR (possessive) and YOU'RE (YOU ARE). Like Kristen Ashley.... MY ASS.
It was okay and I liked it, but....I can't compare this to Kristen Ashley's books, it's not a fair comparison...Rough Ride just didn't reach that sacred status (Motorcycle Man quality) for me. Overall it was a 2.5 read, so I bumped it up to 3 stars.
3.5.... This is not a very intense biker book... but it was sweet and hot. The story goes fast. If you want a non too intense with a sense of humour biker book, read this... To me, it's an "just alright" book.
I am impatiently waiting for book two, and book three and any others that come out in this series. After a horrible time in Lilly's life she's decides to move to Florida to be closer to her sister, but on the way car troubles leave her stranded till a tow truck happens upon her and tows her to a repair shop. Once There Lilly finds an older woman in the office in desperate need of help in the office and with nothing to do helps her. While helping Lilly see's Bobby the owner of the shop and is instantly atrracterd to Bobby. Bobby isn't used to being attracted to classy woman like Lilly but finds himself drawn to her like no woman before and with all the help Lilly has done in a few hours in his office he offers her a job. As more time passes Lilly and Bobby find themselves more and more attracted to each other and Lilly finds herself more at home than ever before. So when Lilly and Bobby finally decide to take their relationship to another level they have no idea that people from Lilly's past have plans different for Lilly. This was a fantastic book, I was in a reading slump for the past few books but man This book was great I loved Lilly and LOVED Bobby he's one hot biker and he's possessive and will stop at nothing to protect Lilly. Not only did I love The main characters but the side characters as well. And though it's hard to surprise me I never saw the twist in this book coming. I can't wait till we get the guys(from the shop) story they loved Bobby and Lilly and were funny and were a big beautiful family. I can't say enough about this book. I started this book and couldn't put it down. I didn't want to even sleep because this book was a higher priority for me. The writing style of Rebecca Avery was great and I never would have guessed that this was her first book. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next not only in this series but other books as well. Rough Ride really needs more than five stars!

Book Description:Very adult h and H. No games- Both thirty years old+ so they know who they are and what they want. No bad treatment of women(which is a nice change). I'm a little disturbed by Gretchen-that child really needs some mother's TLC/

Personal Overview/ Overall Rating:4/ Do You Recommend this Book:yes, very light biker romance, though NOT a MC book though/ Will You Re-read this Book:no/ Would You Read More Books by this Author:yes/ ======================================= COMMENTS/NOTES: Definitely more romance than MC. The H owns and operates a motorcycle shop along with roughneck guys who ride motorcycles. They aren't outlaws or criminals. There are no harsh rival gangs to deal with. The h Lilly has to deal with fallout from her deceased husband's shadowy business deals. The FBI is involved, Lilly has to go undercover for a brief time and Bobby rescues her. I look forward to future books about Tommy,Dickie,Chuckie and Becca comes into town as their lawyer on retainer, and of course she has a story.
Okay... I REALLY, REALLY wanted to like this book and quite frankly based on the description I thought I would love it.
It was okay... there was lots of potential but it was also lacking. I think the biggest turn off for me was the amount of people that compared it to any of Kristen Ashley's work - let me be perfectly honest in saying that this book is NOTHING like KA... sure there was a smokin hot biker and his friends were not only sweet as can be but also badasses... that is where I would leave the comparison.
I would have liked to have seen a lot more character development. Lilly was sweet but I kind of pictured her as much older then she was. I mean a woman in her 30's doesn't own any jeans? I get that her husband was a control freak but he had been gone for two years. Then there was Bobby, and while I really liked him as well... I wanted more.
I would have liked to have seen more interaction between Lilly and Bobby before they "fell in love" and I would have loved to have seen some confrontation between the two of them when he goes to NY.
Like I said this book has some GREAT promises, but it needs some work!
I like the overall concept, and I get part of the comparison to Kristen Ashley as far as theme/alpha/badasses go. But the writing style is so stilted and prissy that I picture Lilly as kind of a frowsy chick in mom jeans. I was shocked when her age was mentioned because she was a lot younger than I expected. The guys were at least likable, but even their parts seemed like they had a prudish undertone. Bobby at one point had a thought about priapism, and it actually made me laugh because that isn't a word I picture getting a lot of use in a biker's lexicon. But I don't think it was intended to be funny. Motorcycle Man by Kristen Ashley was fast paced, intentionally funny, anxiety producing (in a good way) and always hot/engaging. This had a couple of warm moments and the rest of the time a slightly rushed feel. I would probably give a second book of hers a read but wouldn't try to come up with any desperate Lucy/Ethel schemes for getting an advance copy of the next book, which is how I DO feel about everything Kristen Ashley produces.
I've been on an MC kick so I was happy to find this one. Rough Ride is a really sweet Biker book. The h is Lilly. She was widowed two years ago and when her husband died she found out that not only was he having affairs he swindled lots of people and used her name to do it. All her accounts were frozen, and none of her so-called friends will have anything to do with her. Lilly decides to flee to her sisters house in Florida. She meets up with Bobby, who owns a garage that rebuilds bikes. Bobby has a reputation as quite the ladies man and Lilly seems to be high class, but sparks fly whenever they are together. Add in 8 million missing dollars from Lilly's late husband crooked financial dealings and an ongoing FBI investigation and you've got a recipe for an interesting read. If your looking for a gritty MC read, this is not the book for you. If you want a sweet and light biker book, this is your lucky day.
For the most part I really liked the book. It was very tame compared to what I have been reading. I really like Bobby and I feel for Lilly. She goes through a lot in this book. A lot of story, for me very little romance. Not super graphic sex scenes which I kind of wish there was more of. If you are looking for something sexy and hot, this is not your book. But if you want a book that focuses on a really decent story and romance and sex is not something that you are focused on, then this book is for you.
Meh...an average read....I feel like I've read this before, but done better. There are quite a few roll your eyes moments, and I feel like this is one of those 'read an excerpt before you buy' books, ....Oh and the pacing is pretty quick, like everything happens way too quickly, to be believable ...And the bikers are sorta....pansy-ish....they've got the tattoos the muscles, and the bikes, but they're not very bad ass, IMO. 2.5 to 3 stars.
I love books about bad boy bikers and I found myself totally loving this book.
I thought it was very well written and I loved all the interesting characters. I think this is going to be a great series and I cannot wait to read the next book....
I think I will be particularly interested to read more about Tommy (and his cute foul mouthed toddler....lol)
I enjoyed the characters in this book and was getting into the H and h romance, then halfway into the book the story began to change. It suddenly morphed into a crime mystery in another state, with only the h involved. This could have worked had the H been involved.
The book ended abruptly with a ta daa here's the end.
Loved this book. Of course far fetched with the princess and the frog but I still loved it. Bobby was steamy hot, seductive and possessive. But I liked the story behind with her past and trying to right her husbands wrong. Good quick read.
Liked the concept of this story, but I felt like so many things were left unsaid and or didn't make sence. Characters were ok but not fully developed to their potential in my opinion.
Rough Ride is about two people who will meet and fate will do the rest. Bobby and Lilly's chemistry is explosive. This is more a mechanic/biker romance, these are bikers who design custome bikes and cars, as of book one there was no mention of an MC. Which is fine by me... Avery gives us suspense, lust , laughter and angst. Bobby is a dirty talking, straight shooter, was hit it and quit it type of guy. According to the town he had a different flavor every month. Well everything changes when Lilly rolls into town and becomes his newest office manager. From the moment their eyes connect its magic, lust, dirty talking and heavy on the sexual chemistry. Lilly is high class in her pencil skirts, blouses and buttoned up hair...but under those clothes is a wild lady wanting to let loose..and one sexy biker will take her to places she has never experienced. The author takes these two on an amazing journey as they learn about themselves and eachother. All secondary characters are amazing..but the little girl named Gretchen will steal your hearts. I recommend reading Rough Ride. Happy Reading!!!
Lilly is running away from her past and hoping for a fresh start. When she meets Bobby she is having feelings she never expected. Bobby is a hit it and quit it kind of guy, but once he see's Lilly he wants her. She is way out of his league, or that is how he feels. I really enjoyed this book and loved how Bobby went about showing Lilly a side of him that most never see. He was hooked from the start and wanted more from her. Misunderstandings and a need to do the right thing split them apart, but their love story wasn't finished. Although they will have to face danger and separation before they can get back to each other. A great start to this series. Really liked all of the secondary characters and anticipating their stories.
This was my first read by this author, and wow she hit me with her sexy, sweet, adorable alpha male that is all Bobby Jackson lol! Rough Ride takes us on a journey following Lilly, a widow escaping a life of privilege, control and scandal surrounding her husband’s business dealings and embezzlement. She travels down to Florida to live with her sister and begin a new life free from restraint. Her journey to Florida leads to a rough ride when her car breaks down and she's rescued by a handsome stranger with a tow truck. Whilst waiting in the office for her car to be fixed, she finds herself updating the businesses financial accounts as a favour to gran and for being rescued. Bobby Jackson walks in and the chemistry is on, eyes lock and Bobby falls for Lilly in her business attire clothes, her shy nature and beauty. Bobby Jackson was so sweet, cute, adorable and just damn loveable, I loved how he took advantage of her inappropriate clothing when she was on the back of his bike the first time, when he so easily could have taken his four wheeler lol! He truly loved her, despite his feelings as he came from a less privileged background, and he was never short on woman throwing themselves at him, making him question why someone like Lilly with high class would ever look at him, as she was so out of his league, but still he couldn’t deny his pursuit of her. We see Lilly accept her new life in Florida as she works alongside Bobby, until her past comes to haunt her, miscommunication and misunderstandings make for bad choices, and we get caught up in a mystery, which leads Lilly and Bobby to part ways whilst trying to clear her name. Brilliant read. I totally loved the romance between the lead couple it was hot and sexy, the secondary characters were just as loveable!
I seldom write reviews about the books I read, but this one needs a review.
I really wanted to like this book. But it fell short in so many ways. Many reviewers compared her to Kristen Ashley which, to me, seems to be an insult to KA. She's got a LONG way to go to measure up to KA.
Character development: I think she did a better job with the guys than she did with Lilly, but I felt like I didn't really know any of the characters very well.
Writing: OMG. This might be the WORST book I've ever read in terms of punctuation, usage, and grammar in general. EVERY SINGLE PAGE had errors: missing periods and commas, improper capitalization, horrible sentence structure, run on sentences, and fragments. It was awful. "He said" is not a sentence, nor does capital "He" belong in the middle of a sentence. So not only does the author seem to lack a basic understanding of grammar and how it impacts the meaning of what's written, she has a editor that apparently doesn't either. I found myself having to re-read sentences to glean who she was referring to with her pronouns. It was painful. The writing had sort of a sterile feeling to start with but I felt that improved as it went along. Or perhaps I was just desensitized to it by the end?
Story: That said, the general premise of the storyline and plot were pretty good. It's just too bad that the bad writing overshadowed it.
2.5 stars OMG was that a rough ride alright. The narration was so rough it was painful. I lost count of how many times I read 'he said' 'she said' once I hit 400. A few times it was necessary but more often than not it was rather clear who was speaking. Describing what the character was doing would have been more helpful the constant mention of what he/she was saying.
The plot had potential but the characters felt like one dimensional cardboard cut-outs. A young girl was introduced to the story and could have made a cute addition, but then the heroine kept referring to her as the child. "She wanted to talk the child."
The constant use of the term 'Upon' also grated on me. **He called her cell phone and upon receiving voicemail.... **Upon receiving sherri's voicemail she left a message **Upon exiting the highway... **He murmured upon her turning in a complete circle. (does that even make sense?) **Upon catching her eye he nodded his head towards the door he leaned against. **Upon his easy grip suddenly becoming tighter...
That's not only helpful in this case if you are expecting nothing but bad boys and motorcycles, it's the whole point of the book ... at least I think so. Now I admit this is normally not my kind of read. Still I found the pacing to be good and the dialogue fresh enough to hold my attention. Not quite as much tension as I would have expected from the story twists, but this novel is more about the romance than the action. With nontraditional characters (Gotta love Gretchen) that are still descent enough to relate to without losing the real world edge normally missing from romance stories. You are left with a little extra at the end, sometimes it's worth getting past the cover to find out what's inside.
The beginning was great. Kept me interested. I really wanted to see what would happen between the H and H. The middle was better - to see the interaction and all that. I think it just went downhill once the heroine came across a problem in her past... and also the interaction between the H and H got a little too "mushy" for me. I do like the characters in the book, especially Tommy, but I just felt like it wasn't great. I'm debating giving it 2.5 stars instead.
I remember telling friends that there's not enough badassery and alphaness in this book & that's what I think it's missing :0) Jerks are great. Mushy sentimental guys, ehhhh, not so much LOL.
