I loved the first book in the series The Quick . It was an amazing idea, and very well written in the hardboiled style.

This book took a while to get into. It was as if the author didn't really know what the story was. He was following the main character around, from LA to San Francisco, as he tailed a woman, but there was no real story.

Once the woman was no longer in the story, the main character was reminiscing of his past (the early days of his being a Sailor), and you learned more about the Sailor status. He also told the story of an earlier murder mystery and his connection to the man who sent him to SF to follow the woman. Those parts were well told, and interesting. The author also switched back to the present day, and a mysterious happening in SF that impacted all Sailors. It is also a set up for the continuing story of Sailorhood.
