NayéLi is a learner. She was sent to Earth to study about I'WE, the humans, the planet and everything around them. She was given a second chance to prove herself to the main power that she was worth being somebody back at Sumaura, her home planet. Spending hundreds of years on planet Earth has taught her many things but everything changes when she meets a special I'WE, Jared Russell. Nobody can remember her except him because of her memory shield and she doesn't understand why. All she knows is that she has never experienced any of the feelings that she has and she doesn't care anymore if she breaks all the rules just to be with him.

O.M.G.! This has to be the best science fiction that I have ever read. Actually, I don't think I've ever found a science fiction book that I enjoyed this much. Everything about this book was perfect. The scenes, the story, the characters and even romance! It had everything. I absolutely loved NayéLi and it was so interesting to see her be a learner and struggle with her emotions for Jared. And she totally kicked some ass! And Jared! He was such a sweet guy and it was so cute when he was trying to figure her out and find out who she was and why he can't stop thinking about her. Sooooo dreamy! I devoured with book within hours and cannot wait for the second book in the Learner Series to come out.

NayéLi's life on earth has been pretty uneventful for the last couple of hundred years. Travelling and learning everything there is to know from our planet, are about the only things she has done. All that is about to change when she's in a bus accident. Now Jared, who's a doctor, just happens to be around when the accident happens. So he's of to the rescue of the victims, among which is NayéLi. Presuming she's dead, he doesn't pay much attention to her.

That is until he walks into her a couple of days later. Definitely intrigued now, he wants to know more about her. How did she survive the accident, when he felt no pulse? NayéLi isn't about to answer his questions. Somehow Jared remembered her, which makes him a threat she has to stay far away from. Only if it wasn't so difficult to keep her distance and Jared isn't about to give up.

While Jared is trying to figure out who and what she is, NayéLi is trying to figure out why she can't leave him behind and makes her feel so human. They keep bumping in to each other or more like Jared keeps seeking her out, but she isn't turning him away either. Slowly they grow closer, but NayéLi is putting them in danger by breaking the rules 'No interacting or helping the humans' and she has long surpassed that.

Recently I've been reading a lot of New Adult and Contemporary Romances, this book was a nice change of scenery. There is of course still romance and an interesting interaction between human and alien, but the focus is not on them having sex and that's refreshing. It shows once more it is not necessarily needed in the book. There were plenty of other things to keep it interesting.

There was one thing I didn't like so much and that was the ending. Without giving away any spoilers, I'm just going to say it all felt a bit rushed. The rest of the story was very well spaced, but in the end it's all hurry hurry. Also there is going to be a second book and honestly I don't even feel that it's necessary. There are no major cliffhangers, the book could very well stand alone.

One of the things I liked the most was how their relationship grows gradually. It isn't all fate or mates or some other force pushing them together. He's intrigued by her and slowly they move closer together. She has to open up big, trust him with her secrets and he has to be able to accept all that. Their journey isn't easy and there are plenty of obstacles, but it's definitely all worth it.

Read it if you like something original, refreshing and not obsessed with sex, but do like romance, mystery and happy endings.

I couldn't put it down!

This is the best sci-fi novel I've read in quite a while. It is really refreshing to read about two people who love each other without the trashy sex. I would pay to see the movie.

NayeLi is a learner from a different planet sent to observe planet earth. After her last attempt on another planet failed she was determined not to fail on this planet. She wasn't supposed to be on the bus that day, that bus wasn't supposed to crash and He was definitely not supposed to remember her being apart of the wreckage.

Jared was among the first to be there at the wreckage and he was able to help many of the injured there was only 2 who were killed. But at the scene he remembers that there was 3 the third was the beautiful women he just couldn't take his mind off of. After days of obsessing over the girl he finds her, live and not badly injured. After everything she shouldn't be live or walking around like nothing happened. Now he must find out more about this mysterious women.

I've never really been interested in Sci Fi anything. The description seemed interesting enough for me to get out of my comfort zone and check out this book. I was not disappointed. I reading from both POV of NayeLi and Jared. It was easy to immerse myself in the characters and understand why Jared was feeling a bit confused of everything had to do with NayeLi. I knew she was an alien from the descriptions which explained why I understood why weird things kept happening to her. I liked that when Jared started asking questions about NayeLi, the readers got to know more about her world and rules and such. As for Jared and him being able to recognise and remember her I had a feeling I knew what was going on, a lot of the little things that were said just added up and I knew what was going to happen. Towards the end I couldn't help but feel bad and then eventually hopeful for NayeLi and Jared.

Overall I loved this book. If you are interested in reading a new and interesting book check this out. You Scifi fans out there would definitely love this book. Highly Recommend!

Right off the start The Leaner by Alan Nayes has you hooked. You ask yourself what is a host, is she dangerous, where is she from and why is she here. While the story starts out a little slow it picks speed as it goes and it draws you in and has you in the edge of your seat as you read.

The Leaner is a mystical, magical, paranormal story involving out of space species born to do research of other planets and learn their habits but like every other being they have rules they must follow and their number one rule is there can be no involvement with a member of the host species. But aren’t all rules meant to be broken? That is the case of NayéLi, a Leaner that is on planet earth to gather information and nothing else but like everything in life the unexpected happens and she falls in love with a human.

Jared a doctor who is a widow that has made it in life to live his work after his wife died. His mother worried about him sets him up with a ‘nice’ young lady who in turn turns out to be materialistic and not what he is looking for. After an awful date he goes into work replacing the ER doctor on call and gets there as people are rushed in after an accident. That is where he meets NayéLi and while she doesn’t make an impact on him right away, she intrigues him later on when he sees that the accident had hardly any impact on her.

He wants her and wants answers she avoids him as much as she can until she cant anymore. The Learner a story about love and adventures and definitely a page turner that will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to skip pages to read the good stuff or just hang in there and enjoy the ride.

I recommended to all you ladies that love the paranormal world with a hint of love, lust and romance with a good loving relationship that grows gradually through the story and its not rushed. I give it 4stars/olives for an awesome read.

I received this book in exchange for a honest unbiased review.

My Review~
This was a great read. This totally wasn't my typical genre. I like the new updated version better than the older version. This book is captivating and engaging and also has such a unique storyline that leaves the readers wanting more. I love the banter between Nayeli and Jared. The descriptions and the scenery are amazing and now that the author changed it made this book that much better. I love it even more. This is an amazing Sci-fi read! Can't wait to see what else this author has in store for the readers.

I received a free copy of this book for a honest opinion

Nayeli is a Alien that is on earth for many years, she is learning about life on earth, she has protection around her that makes that people don't really notice her. Till on day she gets in a accident and a docter at the scene can't forget her. She is surprised because everyone else forgot about her.

Jared the doctor lost his wife years ago and is still dealing with his grieve when he sees Nayeli the day of the accident, thinking she was death they lay her aside, when he helped all other people, Jared looked back to where she was and realized she was gone.

When Nayeli noticed that Jared still remembers her. She tries hard to stay away from him, but he keeps on finding her, will she give in??? will love find them????

I personally had a hard time in the beginning with the "Alien" language, it was not something that needed to be in there in my humble opinion. With that been said, it is a nice Sci Fi romance, it is worth reading it.

Fantastic sci fi story. Very well written. Characters are full and well developed.

NayeLi is an alien. Sent to Earth to learn (Title of book is THE LEARNER) about our ways. She has the unique ability to make her almost invisible to others. Invisible in that no one really notices her. She is the girl in the back of the room, the girl standing near the wall. This works great for her for years, until she meets Jared. He's a young doctor who can't seem to forget about Nayeli. She is somewhat at odds, unable to figure out why he can remember her.

This is a fun story. We see an alien become more human than many of us. I'm not certain all the alien language was necessary, but hey...there is a glossary and the author takes a great deal of time explaining the meaning of the alien words. After all, what would Star Trek be without the Klingon? I see this series as a great sci fi movie.

If you love sci fi you should love this series.

For years the main character, NayeLi, resides on the planet without incident despite her first attempted as a “Learner”. She is determine to live out her years on Earth documenting all she can about the species on this planet. That is, until everything changes one night.

Right from the beginning this novel had me hooked. The author creates an alien race that had me intrigued. I liked this authors writing style and the characters were very well developed. I enjoyed the transformation of the main character in this story. As the story progressed, she became more human and willing to disregard the rules of her own planet. There is some romance in the novel, but it honestly wasn't overwhelming. I’m definitely looking for more from this author

This book took me a few chapters to get into it because this isn't my normal read but I found myself loving it. Nay'eLi became real to me in this story. Her adventure on Earth was exciting and made better by Jared. Her quest to learn about Earth for her home planet takes a twist with a surpirse ending. This is a good book.

Wow. One of the best science fictions I've read in a long time, maybe ever. This story would make a great movie. Fascinating and creative plot, poetic imagery, intense scenes, and intriguing characters make this book hard to put down.

I only have this a 4 star because it took awhile to capture me. But once it did it was amazing. She is an alien here to learn, he is a doctor still grieving his late wife. No one remembers her after a few minutes of meeting her except him. A really excellent read if you love sci fi!!!

The Unofficial Addiction Book Fan Club's Review:

About The Book:

NayéLi is an Alien that has been on earth for many years. She is a learner; her porpoise is to learn as much as she can about life on earth. She has a shield, to protect her from being noticed. This shield protection makes that people don't recall her. But when she “died” in a bus accident, something happened. Something that shouldn’t had happened. A human saw the moment she went into shut-down mode. She told to herself that he wouldn’t be able to remember her.

Jared is a doctor; he has lost his wife in an accident and has not yet moved on. When he sees NayéLi the day of the accident, he tought she was beautiful, in a way he hasn’t seen before. She was exotic and beautiful. Such a pity she was dead. But one day, he saw a women like the one from the accident. He couldn’t believe it was her, it has only passed a week since the accident and she had had severe injuries, and now she is in a better shape that any women he has seen.

When NayéLi realized that the doctor from the accident, indeed, remembers her, she tries to stay as far away from him as she can. She cannot have any kind of contact with a human, she is in Earth to learn, not to intervene. But she starts to feel strange, something in her is not right, she couldn’t stop thinking about Jared and Jared does not seem able to take her out of her mind too.

Would NayéLi recognize that she is developing human feelings? Would this two finally find love?

Review:

Books Addicts, we have to say that The Learner really caught our attention; it was the kind of book we like to read. And we weren’t wrong. It was intriguing, lovely, and with such a plot, we were really surprised about the things that were happening in the story.

The learner, written by author of thrillers, horror and love stories, Alan Nayes, was really good. We enjoy almost every moment of it. But why we did not enjoy ALL of it? To answer this question, we should explain what made us giggle, how this book made us feel and the one thing that did not make this book a 5 gorjuss doll.

When we saw that there were some Mexican guys (gangs), we were thrilled because we like this mix of Spanish and English, even if it is for a short time. But when we saw for the first time the word bendejo instead of pendejo (berk, motherfuck…) we felt sad? You could say that, but it was not biggie. So, we were like “Ok, one mistake…it is not so important” but we kept seeing the same word. However, this was not what discourage us. It was a phrase one of the gangsters said, it was “Bendejo cre los estupido” (don’t try to translate it, it just doesn’t make sense, cre is not a word), we were in shock, we couldn’t understand what the author was trying to say, though it has kind of a translation later…but OMG, it was NOT the same, not at all!

We understand that as a non Spanish-Speaking, you could make huge mistake when you write or talk, WE make mistake while we are talking or even writing in this same blog in English. But at the same time, we realize that as an Author, if you are writing in another language (even if it is just one word), you should be more careful. This may not bother everyone, but it is a professional work, it should be written as one.

Anyway, mistakes aside, it was an interesting book. We enjoy the plot. How the author creates such an amazing story is something we haven’t finished to understand yet.

We do really hate the ZYX, and Tûc. We were like “Let the girl be free…why couldn’t you two stop calling her? It is just a minute!). We actually hate more Tûc that the ZYX, he was…arg, disgusting. We personally wouldn’t choose to marry him, not in a million years (Earth years or Samaura’s). How he takes NayéLi for granted, it was disturbing and…geez, no words are enough to describe our hate for him.

We really loved NayeLí, she was strong and smart. She was a tough girl on the outside, or at least that was she wanted people to think. How she started to have feelings, human feelings, was a little bit expected, but it did not happen in a blink of an eye… It took her a time to realize she was behaving like a human and that's one thing we really liked.

We are officially a FAN of NayéLi and Jared relationship! They are so cute together. Every time there was a touch, a kiss, a hug... we giggle like teenagers. We are so in love with the couple that we couldn't sleep. We weep a lot, almost at the end of the book, because of something we are not going to say that happens and that breaks our delicate hearts… However, everything turns out good. Don't panic! So our sadness and cries disappeared as soon as they came.

So Books Addicts, there is one last thing we would like to add to this review. We encourage you to read this book. It won’t be a waste of your time and we're sure you're gonna like it as much as we did.
Once said that, we would give this book 4 gorjuss doll.

I want to thank the author for gifting The Learner for an honest review.

If you know me, even a little, you know I’m big into science fiction and out there books, movies, etc. When this book was offered up through AToMR, I was all over it. And here, to have a gorgeous alien who sticks by the rules go and fall in love, you know there’s going to be trouble!

As I read it there were many interesting moments. Regeneration taken to a whole new level, romance that has never been experienced before, discovery from both the alien and human views but the moments were a bit dulled down by the story going on and on and really not getting anywhere for a really long time. The over use of the alien term for humans and the alien race/rulers started to grate on my nerves. After so many references to humans in the alien language, I was like, ok, I get it, now get on with the story, stop with the alien language use. Heck, she’s been there long enough, and changing enough that the whole alien language barrier should have been long shrugged off.

Jared, jarred into wanting to knowing more about NayeLi, due to an odd occurrence which becomes even odder when he discovers not only that people can’t seem to remember her, even after just seeing a photograph of her, becomes the friendly stalker. A man with a kind heart and a deep loss, he soon finds what he’s been missing in his life. He finds it a bit hard to come to terms with the fact that she’s an alien, which should have pretty obvious after several things he’s seen her do.

A romance that shouldn’t be, a romance that has never been before, a romance that can only end badly, this is a romance worth watching, worth feeling the newness, worth the discovery. An ending that even after all the earlier monotony will surprise you.

Again, I wish to thank the author. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a bit of scifi alien/human romance mixed with mystery and intrigue. I had started off giving this book a solid 3 stars, but with the last ¼ of the book finally breaking free of the backstory and getting along with the present story, I am upping it to 3 ½ stars and since Goodreads doesn't take 1/2 stars, it gets 4.

NayéLi is an alien from another planet that was sent to Earth to learn about not only the land but the inhabitants as well. She's spent hundreds of years wondering Earth, cataloging everything she witnesses. Her species is not only more advanced but also has the ability to shield themselves. So they can wonder the world and blend in with people and if someone notices her, they forget all about her within a matter of minutes. However, Jared remembers her and she's about to break the #1 rule of being a Learner. Never get involved with the native species.

I will be honest that the first half of the book was really slow moving for me. You go through the first time Jared see's NayéLi. Weeks after their first meeting and how he constantly thinks about her and tries to find her again. Meanwhile NayéLi's dialect is more background information about her planet and her mission. It isn't until about 50% through the story that things started to move a bit faster. That's when I really started to get interested in the story and the characters within.

The world that Nayes created was definitely a new one for me. NayéLi is an interesting character who slowly starts to become more human throughout the story. I liked how they start to find ways around her shield as well. Which of course helps her feel more included on Earth than she's ever been. I really started to feel sad for her and the situation that she was in both on Earth and once she returned to her planet.

This was definitely an interesting story and once I made my way through the first half, it really sucked me in. I'm hoping that now the story is underway the second book will pick up right where this one left off and I will be engrossed in the story from the first page.

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. NayeLi is a learner from another planet. She has been here on earth for eight years in her human host with one year left to go. She inhabiting a beautiful human host, but has been using a memory shield, which allows her to interact with other humans meanwhile erasing their memory of the incident.

Jared is a successful doctor. He lost his wife two years prior in horrendous car accident caused by a drunk driver. Unable to move on, he continually thinks of her and still drives her Lexus that she only had two weeks to enjoy. His friends and family think that he’s spent enough time mourning, and begins setting him up on dates. None of these women have the beauty his wife had to capture his attention…until now.

This is a great paranormal romance! Jared’s attraction to NayeLi is instantaneous. The characters have such interesting personalities and the situations so descriptive that I was drawn in from the very beginning and kept captivated right up until the end. The only issue that I had was the constant use of the alien terminology; the confusion took away from the story. Other than that, I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

I received a copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased and honest review. This was not my typical genre of book to read. This was sci fi mixed with romance. Jared was still nursing hid broken heart from the devastating death of his beloved wife Emily 5 years who. His mom, friends, friends wives all wanted to fix him up constantly but he wasn't ready. Until a bus accident and he met alien Naylee. He thought she was dead but she went into stasis. She looked human because she was using human host. Was she going to be able to complete her mission or fall on love. I did find the alien terms and language very distracting to the story. In my opinion that could have been left out.

At the begining what got me was the subject. I read the back of the book and said yup I want to read this book and here we are. First of all as a person I don't like mystery so I really related to Jared. But I got it that NayéLi has to be mysterious. I couldn't seriously get into the book I don't know why but I got bored ocassionally it moved way to slow I am guessing I kept waiting for the excitement to begin. I just couldn't feel it the excitement the want the need. Nope none. And it was overly predictable... So all my points goes to creativity. Though I didn't you might wanna give it a try if you liked the subject.

This is the first book I have read about aliens. I liked learning all about NayeLi's planet Sumaura but I didn't really care for the people of that planet. The book seemed to long for me but the love between NayeLi and Jared seemed to happen to quick. Well at least Jared seemed obsessed right away. This book has a lot of details and is very well written. I can't say I really loved this story but I think it was good enough to want to read book two in the Learners Series, Allegiance.

Complimentary Review Copy Provided by Publisher Through NetGalley. I loved the blurb for this one and really gave it a good try (four attempts) but I just could not get interested in it. It had lots of good points but the overuse of 'alien' terms and the very slow pace of the whole book (or at least the half I actually read) made it impossible for me to stick with it.
