In this text, young people involved in the "Wayout" project in Oxfordshire, describe their experiences of growing up lesbian or gay, and explain why lesbian and gay youth groups are important. Together with the workers involved in the project, they have identified key aspects of good practice and make practical recommendations on the basis of their experience. The book offers practitioners, managers and students in youth, community, health, social and education services practical advice about setting up a group; about staffing, resources, supervision and management; and about issues of access, confidentiality and safety. It demonstrates a positive and proactive response based on the view of young people and their rights to freedom of association, non-discriminatioin and to have their views taken into account in the decision-making processes that concern them. It should be of interest to anyone wanting to develop work with lesbian and gay young people.
