3 5 stars rounded up to 4. I thought this book had some great information and generally helpful health advice. I found the simplification of all issues and eating patterns being based on doshas and your more prominent constitution to be rather oversimplified and not accurate. What I scored higher in doesn't correlate with what foods my body best tolerates and I wouldn't recommend arbitrarily avoiding generally healthy food based on your score. That being said, not every person tolerates every food the same, so I'm very much in favor of eating seasonally and in season foods (which she recommends) and paying attention to how each food affects your body to determine what is best for you specifically to eat. The advice to eat more mindfully, without distractions and consume mainly nourishing, whole foods is superb advice of course too. There were also other healthy practices that are definitley beneficial to add. So overall, despite not agreeing or resonating with every bit of it, I do think it was a good and informative book.

I looked up this book after watching an interview with Dr Parikh and the book did not disappoint me. She knows what she is talking about. Even though it is a book that combines research and ancient wisdon from eastern medicine, she does not preach or spend too much time trying to explain. She gives explanations as part of the narrative. She tells you how to do a simplified version of Panchakarma detox that is mentioned in many ayurvedic texts, but modified it to be done at home. She even tells you how to do a shorter and longer version. This has been my major take away from the book. Even though I have read many books on Ayurveda, I could never practice anything because they were a bit complicated for a modern household. Dr Parikh's approch is very doable.

This is an excellent book, a must read. It can help anyone at least improve a few small things about their daily habits that can help them live better. It is a powerful work that combines the best of what Eastern and Western medicine can offer in easily understandable terms.
