His current creator owned projects include “Dragon Prince” (Top Cow) and “Samurai : Heaven and Earth” (Dark Horse).
Surprisingly, Dynamite made this crossover of disparate properties work. I did like that it tied into the end of the Mayan calendar and that they used Kulan Gath as the big bad. Walter Geovanni's art is very good.
This crossover was a little better than I was expecting. There were many, many characters in this one so I was worried they would clutter the story, so to speak, but really they didn't. Some of the characters were relegated to supporting status of course, but I still think that's better than overdoing the story.
So the sorceror Kulan Gath is attempting to end the world and recreate it with him in charge. However, standing in his way we have quite the cast of characters: Red Sonja, Vampirella, Dracula, Pantha, Eva Dracula's Daughter, Herbert West Reanimator, Ash from Evil Dead, and Athena. Sherlock Holmes and Watson, Alan Quartermain, and Dorian Grey also show up. Dracula was in the role of good guy this tme, which is a little unusual, but other than that not a bad story. The art was nice as well. The artist did a good job drawing sexy women which was imperative with this cast.
The story also added a major change to the continuity of Red Sonja.
Overall not a groundbreaking crossover, but a fun read.
This is an interesting cross of several comics and story lines. It starts with Sherlock Holmes and goes back to Red Sonja a few thousand years before, then to current era with Vamprilla and Dracula. An interesting intro to a new story line.
This was a very strange but unique crossover. Characters that both stared in other companies like Marvel and others here.
Fun seeing so many unique people from Sherlock to Red Sonya. Also making appearances are Dracula, Ash, Dorian Gray, and so many more.
It moves at a brisk pace, I am not hugely familiar with all of these characters but never felt lost. You won't learn much new or backstory on most but it's not really needed.
"Every living thing in this world has come from the female... even you" - Red Sonja to Dracula
I enjoyed this... a lot!!! I only read Army of Darkness and Reanimator comics from Dynamite, but now I'm curious about Dynamite's Vampirella, Red Sonja, Athena and Pantha! Without knowing much from the characters that I never read before, this story was able to introduce them in a very simple way, without me feeling lost or completely clueless about them. The story is very well made, and easy to follow. Sometimes, when I read major crossovers by Marvel or DC, I feel completely lost because of the amount of characters (and the multiples tie-ins that I'm not reading) and the story feel incomplete or overwhelming. Here, Dynamite could bring a good amount of their characters without overcharging the story with too many characters. The story is straight forward, and I had a good time reading it! 5/5 seems almost too high for a comic that is mostly ignored today, but I feel like they merit it! Kudos to Ron Marz for the story, he nailed it!
The great work art saves this book from receiving only two stars from a confusing, uninspired, and redundant story. With the characters of Vampirella, Eve, Red Sonja, and the amazing Ash Williams I expected much more.
The beginning of each chapter unnecessary recaps the previous one. It seems there to pad out this wafer thin story. Sherlock Holmes, Watson, and Allan Quartermain are also just tacked on.
If you are just a casual fan of these characters then this book can easily be passed bye for something better.
Some nice pictures, nicely fast paced but still.... bringing back old pop-culture heroes to have adventures with more current pop-culture heroes is still just stupid. Just like it was with Alan Moore's Gentleman-thing. Why not try to create new and interesting characters? And while you are at it: Cease to re-do movies and create an original movie.
Just pure fun. Nice to see so many heroines together. Good artwork and panel construction. Helpful to see the script structure at the end of the book, it provides an insight into graphic novel creation.
Well, that was interesting although I thought the Holmes part was unnecessary and didn’t serve the plot at all. It was there just for the sake to be there.
