We follow Anna and Emry to new lands. They run into problem straight away with death and separation. Anna has come into her own and uses her new independent spirit to her advantage. We get to see her interact with new lands, people and information. It was neat to see the world Emry lives in and the people who are involved in it. Evadere brought new characters into the mix that helped the overall story. It gave us entertainment and even more curiously about the future of everyone.
Emry has duties he must obey and is trying to figure out how to control both his feelings and his responsibilities. He struggles to maintain a balance between the both especially when family, love and friendship collide.
Anna and Emry both experience separate journeys. I liked that twist on the story because most of the time the main characters are always together. Sara did something different and it worked out well. We got to see how the characters lived without each other while coming back together. It was neat and well done. I love character growth and Sara gave that.
I’m beginning to like Anna more than I did before in the first book. I admire her strength and independence. It’s a great thing to see a character grow to be strong and still be vulnerable. I think people expect this badass characters all the time now and its lovely to see Sara tackle that – she has managed to create real characters, young and in love facing the challenges life presents in more… supernatural ways. I enjoyed Evadere quite a lot. I feel it had the backbone it needed from Strange in Skin. The characters had a base and the new story fit good. I was able to sit back and enjoy reading Evadere without feeling confused or off.
Sara rounded out this book with great skill and story. She made the sequel a fantastic read and I look forward to seeing how it all plays out in the final book of the series. The second proved to be awesome as I hoped it would be.
This is not to say Strange in Skin wasn’t good but I like Evadere much, much more! It went a long smoothly with the back story that Strange in Skin provided. I felt more connected the characters in this book with their growth.
The subtle but interesting twists involving murder and family were great additions to Evadere. The ending left me wondering what was happening and how it would work for Solace. Luckily I can find out soon enough but bravo Sara.
I recommend Evadere to you especially if you read the first but were unsure if you should follow up. I think it will only continue to get better in the third! Evadere is well worth the read. I can’t wait to read the final book in the series and fill this fix of needing to know what the future holds for Anna and Emry!
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. This is book 2 in the series. And its a continuation of Anna and Emry's story. I gave this book 4 stars.
Anna wakes up on a beach in Evadere and she is alone, she doesn't see Emry anywhere. He has never come to Evadere and left her to be by herself so she is not sure what has happened. But she sets out on her own to find him to see if he is here. She gets lost and along the way finds people that aren't so beautiful as Evadere is, and also along the way she finds out that Evadere itself is not as beautiful as she thought it was. She tries to make her way to the castle where she is going to try and get them to help her get back to Earth.
This 2nd book I enjoyed a lot more then the first. But I wanted to kill Emry half the time, he got on my nerves to the point I wanted to just say I am done!! But the writer kept me reading, and that is saying something. Anna in my opinion put up with too much and should have said I am done take me back to Earth leave me alone and never ever contact me again!!! She is way stronger then I ever would have been. But she is in love and when your in love you do things you would not do otherwise. Here is where Anna comes up against several things that are going to put Emry and her love to the test? Can they withstand it? I mean he has not fit in his whole life and has found the place where he finally belongs only to have Anna not belong. What is that going to do to their relationship?
This book takes place on Evadere for the most part and you are introduced to new Characters and learn all about Evadere and their ways. You learn traditions and why things are the way they are.
I would def again recommend this book to young adults looking for a great Fantasy read.
And like the first I was taken by the first few paragraphs and I knew, I wouldn’t be able to put it down. You join with Emry and Anna along with a few new faces in the World of Evadere, a fictional place that they thought was barren with golden sand and beaches that only they could travel too, but you find out quick that they aren’t alone.
Having bolted out of a funeral and being chased by a few men in suits Anna and Emry seek refuge at Evadere, but when Anna wakes up from a relaxing nap she finds that Emry is no longer there and the world suddenly becomes a much darker place.
Now, teaming up with a Scave, “scavenger”, stealing food, running for her life, and trying to find a way back to Earth, Anna finds herself face to face with what she wants, Emry, but everything is upside down. Spoiler! He’s a prince. He’s The Prince of Evadere!! That’s a shocker, but I’m completely happy about it, until I realized that his mom, the queen, and the other royalties are butts….. yes, forgive my language.
Sara had my heart pounding, yearning, longing for Emry, and then I was jealous as another woman steps up to bat and talk about a cat fight in my head playing out. If looks could kill I’m pretty sure Anna would be dead by the queen and Emry would take the throne under his mother’s misguidance about peace between their people and the scaves. Yes, my head is still spinning about this book.
This is an exhilarating read and when you start you’re not going to want to put it down. There wasn’t a moment where I felt it was slow and around every corner you are learning something knew. So much so I swear I could smell the scaves. Yep, that was a wonderful moment, when you start to smell the filth of the scaves' home and wonder what Anna looked like to Emry when he first sees her?
Power consumes power. Within these pages people will be deceived, be used, and change forever.
In about five minutes after writing this I will be off reading Solace! Here’s to another five star review.

This is the second book in the Strange in Skin series. You definitely need to read these in order.
Anna wakes up on the beach in Evadere and Emry isn't there. Alone and afraid in a foreign world, she faces the frightening inhabitants in her adventures to reach the royal castle. Only there are the people with the power to return her to Earth and Emry. Getting to the castle turns out to be only half of the harrowing adventure Anna will face.
I am truly enjoying this young adult series. Ms. Zook has created a fantastic planet filled with exceptional beings, some with powers and some without. Like the Sneetches of Dr. Seuss, the Contributors, those with powers, dismiss the value of the Scaves, those without powers and left to be scavengers for the basics of living. I look forward to finding out if the Contributors and the Scaves learn the lessons of the Sneetches.
This book was fantastic. Anna starts to really sparkly with that tenacity she showed she possessed in Strange In Skin, and I found myself loving her in this book. Emry had some moments where I shouted (yes I used twitter for this) "Badly done Emry, badly done!" Emry really grows in this book, and by the end I'm totally voting for him as one of the best fictional boyfriends out there.
Imagine being sent far away from home - abandoned or orphaned as a baby. But you're from a different world that Earth, that has no magical powers. Then, one day you discover you can teleport to a magical world. So you go there with the love of your life, expecting a paradise. At first you think you find it -- and you find your mother who, turns out, sent you away to save your life. The paradise you thought you found is a world on the brink of war. Emry comes face to face with having to make a decision, and can he make the right one before it's too late?
Sara V. Zook has established herself as one of my favorite authors. Write on Sara! Write On! I eagerly await Book 3.
I am loving this story. Book 2 has a BIG twist...After all that Anna and Emry have gone through, it's nothing compared to what's coming. Anna wakes up on the beach of Evadere without Emry. Alone and frightened, she needs to either find Emry or a way home. When she meets a young girl Jo, she soon finds out how twisted this planet is. Jo was born without powers. Those without a power are considered scaves or scavengers. They are left to die. But the two girls from a friendship that has No helping and teaching Anna the ways of the planet.
Lots of things are out to kill Anna, none more so then Emry's real mother, the queen. The queen has plans for her long lost son and nothing will stand in her way. NOTHING!! Can Anna stay alive long enough to make Emry see the truth, or is it better to go back to earth and forget the man she loves?
I was given this book by author for honest review. Book 2 of Strange in Skin is set in Emry Logan’s world of Evadere. It starts off telling the awful tale of why Emry is on Earth. When Emry and Anna travel to Evadere, Anna finds herself alone and desperate. With the help of some unexpected friends she finds her way to the castle but not without hardships along the way. After confronting Emry and all the opposition Anna is at last in his arms where she wants to be. I found this book to be at a faster pace than the first book.
It may have been a mistake to have read this before reading the first book in the series but I doubt it. The story was pretty interesting but it just seems like the story fell flat at the end. All this built up and then at the end it was just like boom everything resolved. I also didn't like that I didn't see more of the relationship between Anna and Emry. Not dwelling on this too much so on to the next book.
"This story was full of adventure and drama, with twists at each turn, unfortunately it was inconsistent (jumping from storyline to storyline), appeared rushed and incomplete in the revealing of plots which often frustrated me." - Kota
Evadere, gah!! This book blows my mind.. This is better that book 1. It's interesting and I loved how everything went!!
The characters, I met new ones.. Loved them!! Anna and Emry grew more on me! The new characters are great, fresh and interesting.
The story, it grew more and it's getting interesting as the book goes. I loved it!! The way the story ended, AMAZING!!! I'm excited to read on what will happen next!
