I ran a hand slowly through my wet hair and stretched my aching limbs.
I suddenly stopped as a slight rustle in the back of the cave reached my ear. "Who's there?!" I whispered, hoping nothing would answer.
All I heard was ragged breathing. There was something in here with me!
I quickly darted out of the cave. There could be anything in there, a dragon or a witch? My curiosity finally got the better of me, so I retrieved some semi-dry wood for a torch. Striking a black flint against a boulder, I lit the torch and pulled out my dagger. Tugging my hood further down, I ventured deeper into the blackness of the cave-my torch drew flickering shadows on the walls and the flames crackled as they licked the damp wood. I could still hear the ragged breathing.
Ty Zeiter's love for beauty and adventure inspired her to write "Jazmine," the first story of the "Latanica Saga." She wrote this fantasy epic at age thirteen while exploring the United States in a motorhome with her family. America's majestic terrain fed her imagination for the story that would capture the hearts of readers young and old.
Ty has been home-schooled all her life and loves creative writing, graphic design, and art. She is the oldest of seven kids who all cheered her on throughout the writing process. Ty lives in a beautiful adventure-land of sparkling streams, rolling hills, and historical oaks, nestled in the gold-rush foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Grass Valley, California.
High fantasy fans will get a thrill, especially the preteen girl. Here is a quest that is packed with action, adventure, social hierarchy, danger, injustice, and spirituality. It reminded me of Kit Grindstaff’s The Flame in the Mist. Min is a fabulously realistic character, facing numerous challenges and growing stronger with each. Young girls will look up to her for her tremendous heart and courage. Zeiter’s creativity abounds, taking the reader to vast realms, from the dark, terrifying castle now ruled by the tyrant Malcus to an underwater kingdom of mermaids, just to name a few. A definite recommendation.
