I have no idea why I bought this, tbh. The characters are young (I've been into BL with older characters recently) and it's gonna be more than 2 volumes (I tend to avoid multi-volume stories unless I know the mangaka). But I got it and I was charmed by it, so yay money well spent!
Hinami is an otaku who likes cosplaying cute characters. He's still learning how to put on make up and actually make the clothes and stuff, but he's learning from videos and the like. He goes to an event/con to cosplay in cute girly clothes, thinking he'd be safe since it's far from where he lives, but as luck would have it his classmate Urushibara sees and recognises him.
Urushibara is one of the cool and popular kids at school and Hinami thinks his high school life is over once word gets out about his hobbies. But Urushibara actually helps him out with his make up. Also Urushibara is good at making clothes.
- their level of otakuness are different. Hinami is a much higher level of otaku and hasn't made friends at school until Urushibara came along. One of the reasons why Hinami went to cosplay at that event is because he wanted to meet new people.
I like Hinami. He might get gloom and doom about his bonds with other people (mostly the lack of), but he actually tries.
Urushibara otoh understands what Hinami is talking about and also has a sister who does doujinshi activities (that's how he got so good at a lot of things), but he passes for 'normal' and doesn’t really go to events like Komiket.
- the 'feminine' traits in both of the characters are really cute. Hinami likes cute things, which includes cute dresses. But like, the cover tells us that. Urushibara was a nice surprise; I think it's cute to have a seme who cares about make up and is actually good at stuff like making clothes and styling wigs.
- Hinami being clueless about feelings (his own and Urushibara's) is also cute. The confession happens twice because Hinami was just too thick to get it the first time around 😂
Urushibara trying not to push against Hinami too hard and fast is also pretty cute!
I'm kinda invested and want to know what kind of things Hinami will figure out about love, so I might look out for the next volume.
