The One

Rate this book
A word of Beware of whom you sleep with, they just might change your life!!! This is the sign the woman should have been wearing…with warning bells too! An odd encounter. That’s how it starts. When Julian McCarty -- self-confessed philanderer, quintessential player, actor, restaurateur and bored millionaire -- collides into a random woman at LAX airport, little does he realize his life as he knows it is over. A few drinks, a good dinner, a one night stand and great sex. That’s the way it usually goes. Nothing to write home about, right? Right. Except, he’s crossed paths with The One. He wakes up the next day and finds a note. A stunning chain of events is triggered, and a particular brand of havoc is unleashed, forcing Julian on a journey into his past riddled with secrets, deceit, revelations and betrayal. Nothing is at it appears, and the truth culminates with a heart-breaking revenge, only to concludes with the ultimate redemption. This is a story that will stay with you. Because once you’ve met The One, you can never be the same. This book is intended for mature audiences. This book contains scenes that some might find disturbing.

Okay, this review is difficult to write because I just loved the storyline of two men finding "the one" women that is perfect for each of them. I loved how events were told from the perspective of each character. I loved that none of characters, Ethan, Julian, or Vic (Victoryn), was perfect but you liked them all and wanted them to be happy. Finally, I loved the less than perfect happy ending.

Though there were several things to love about this book there were far too many things to hate. Among them are: very poor writing, extremely poor grammar, unbelievably poor punctuation, awkward phrasing and odd word choices, and the use of words that were just wrong. One example: "... my funds were dilapidating quickly. And just in the past three days, I had spent over $ 100,000." Really, "delapidating" instead of "depleting"!

Or, how about this one: " He had called Marcus and told him he wanted to edify a gravesite for his daughter, in his garden." Am I the only person to think "edify" is odd (or just wrong) here?

There are so many examples of poor writing, editing, and proofreading that they made a potentially very good book into a very bad book. How about these errors:

" The last time I have been in this hospital was when the doctor...." Not "The last time I was in...?"

" Using her foot, she pushes his wheeled executive chair away from the desk, so she can placate her body between him and the desk." Really, "placate" and not "place."

Finally, the book started to drag near the middle with Vic (i.e., Victoryn) being indecisive and running away every few pages. Also, I never understood how three guys could all fall for her on first sight.

I really want to give this a higher rating but could not get past the grammar, editing, and proofreading issues.

So this book had so much potential with the love triangle story line, but it kept going, and going, and going! Then add another love interest and a crush and I was done! I got so frustrated with the heroine and her selfish what I need and want ways that I started not to care if she got a happy ending. It was just too much and let’s not forget all the men who looooved her, Cause that’s what I call some realistic bull caca!
To add to the super long, heavy characters point of view story line, the grammatical errors were starting to make my eye twitch. Did I finish the book? Unfortunately, Yes! I wish I can get my time back, but it’s my fault for sticking with it. All well, on to my next read.
