Lizzie Marshall's Wedding

Rate this book
A warm and witty, romance.

Becky Cooper hasn’t got time for romance. She’s a thirty-two year old widow, struggling to raise her daughter and come to terms with the past, so a man is the last thing she needs.

Her friends disagree, and when Max Bedford arrives in the village, they decide he’s perfect for her; he’s gorgeous, rich and divorced. But Becky’s already met him and feels he’s far from perfect; he’s rude, arrogant and annoying – and anyway, he wouldn’t be interested in her.

To his surprise, Max is very interested in the feisty woman he’s just rescued and whilst he’s not looking for a serious relationship, dating her could be a lot of fun.

When Becky is employed to organise Lizzie Marshall’s Wedding, introducing her to Max’s ex-wife and a group of people whose lives seem even more complicated than her own, she begins to discover she’s not the only one with “baggage”.

Can love set her free, or will Max Bedford, break her heart?

This novel catches up with some of the characters from my first novel, Highland Fling. You do not need to have read Highland Fling to read this novel - but it may add to your enjoyment if you have.

The poor h has a lot of reasons to be insecure, and getting involved with the H, who has a history of cheating, turns her into a jealous wreck. (The H was the cheating husband in Highland Fling.)

The H is insensitive to her feelings and gets angry with her for her jealousy. I could see how he would be irritated but he never really makes himself fully vulnerable to her. I think he might love her but I see no way they can be happy because he is callous and has already shown himself to be someone who gets bored after a few years. Since I never felt he loved the h more than his ex-wife, it's hard to believe he'll be faithful.

Don't get me started on how the OW is supposed to be pitied for having a nervous breakdown.

An enjoyable light hearted read and ideal to relax on the beach with. Very entertaining and although it's a follow on from Highland Fling, it can also be read as a stand alone romcom

I hate myself for finishing this book. Widower and mom of 4 year old Lily, Becky Cooper hasn't had the best luck in life when it comes to family and love. One day she meets Max Bedford and begins to fall in love......
This story started okay until it started to read like a 12th graders final paper. Blah...blah...blah....does he really love me? Blah, blah, blah....will he dump me? Blah, blah, blah.....will he eventually leave?

I became completely fed up with Becky's insecurities. It became the theme of the book along with the horrible writing. I don't know why I forced myself to finish. Save yourself the time......

After reading Highland Fling I knew I would enjoy Lizzie Marshall's Wedding. I must say I think I prefer this book, it was thoroughly enjoyable. Fantastic characters and some new ones to meet. Although it is a sequel it can be read as a stand alone. This is a must read!

Becky was very sensitive. That made sense with all she had been through. But maybe it was too much for me. So much crying, so much apologizing and so much doubting. I wanted to see more of her personality besides being the overly sensitive-orphaned -widowed-financially stressed mother. A character whose whole personality revolves around their misfortunes isn't my favorite. I also liked Becky's best friends more. I am cruel for thinking this, but what did Max see in Becky?

And I don't get why Max cheated..because he thinks he didn't love Lizzie enough? I haven't read the author's previous book, but Lizzie seems like a nice character...why wasn't she good enough for Max to love fully? How is Becky the "special one"?

Around 59%, I DNF'd....I was over it. There wasn't enough wedding planning. I thought we would see Becky in her element...as a confident event planner. But she was just annoyingly modest or in tears instead. And the fact that Becky's mother married a much older man grossed me out...even if that was "normal" during that time or whatever.

I didn't completely hate the writing. Max was a charming flirt, and I might consider reading another book if one of Becky's friends is the FMC.

Becky's life is a cause of anxiety to her closest friends. A little daughter, no parents, a husband who left her with a legacy of debt. She is the best planner of events in their little village though.

Enter Max and his mother who buy the mansion which was once her home. Trust is difficult for Becky, she has been wounded too many times.

Planning Max's ex wife's wedding at the mansion changes their lives. And love bridges the long stretches of doubt and grief.

Fabulous

Another of Emily 's amazing books. She is such a great story teller and she has a way of making the characters come to life. This story didn't disappoint, a very good read and one that you don't want to end. Well done Emily.

Another lovely read

Having read a number of books by this author I decided to try both Highland fling and Lizzie Marshall's Wedding. Both have been enjoyable. There are believable characters in both of them, and a lovely background story.

My earlier misgivings after reading the first book are completely unfounded. This was a wonderful follow up in the series, but could be easily read as a stand-alone.

There will always be boy meets girl, they encounter a problem, solve it and move on to happy every after, but the little twists and turns make all the difference to the feel of the whole thing.

The stars aligned perfectly in this case, and it all come together in a really rather wonderful read.

I'm especially delighted as the author is from East Sussex, and proved in this story that she can really cut the mustard.

Oh, and the production values were also really rather wonderful - some of the North American romance authors should take note!

I thoroughly enjoyed Emily Harvale's first novel Highland Fling - and this is the sequel, although they do not be to be read in order. The characters from the first book do appear in this book, but its not necessary to have the read the first one, although I do recomment it as it is a nice book. This is also a lovely read - and I'm not going to repeat the story line as you get that on the book jacket, or with the merchant if you buy it on line, but I will say that I really enjoyed it and do recommend it as a light hearted heartwarming read.

What can I say? I adored Highland Fling so knew I would love Lizzie Marshall's Wedding, a sequel but it can be read on it's own too. Whereas I wasn't too keen on Max in the first book he totally endeared himself to me in this one and he turned out to be such a wonderful guy. Becky is a lucky, lucky girl.
