Take One More Step, Try One More Time: An Inspirational Children's Book on Building Confidence, Self-Esteem, and a Never-Give-Up Attitude for Kids Aged 3-10
A motivational rhyming tale of a baby bird, who is unable to fly.
“What if I do not learn to fly? What if my friends leave me and roam the sky? My wings are short and immature, I cannot fly, I will fall for sure.”
The baby bird, Dippy, is sad and low. While her friends are flying freely in the sky, she is not able to fly. She has already labeled herself as a misfit bird. Her mother then decides to help her. This story is about persistence and having a “never give up” attitude during failures.
Kids need to understand that success often comes after several failures. The trick is to keep on trying, being patient, and not giving up. Using colorful illustrations and easy-to-read rhymes, the book sends the message that we should not quit on what we want and just keep on trying again and again till we succeed.
Greetings from India! I am an engineering doctorate from IIT Delhi, India with an inclination towards children's literature. I believe books are a good way to teach kids important lessons, which could be otherwise difficult. I enjoy reading children's books, and I have recently started writing kid's picture books with an aim to imbibe reading habits and values in children through the magic of books. Other than work and writing, I love playing sports - badminton, cricket, chess, and table tennis.
Another one of the Free Kindle Unlimited series, Animal Kingdom Books, which I picked up last summer on the recommendation of an Indian friend, the author!
They all fit me like a glove.
Why? Well, as a bullied infant I had low self-esteem.
Kids, Don't Go There. I was STILL there - in my mid-70's! That's why I gave Monkey Who Wished to be a Deer FIVE stars last summer. Read my review...
Well, Take One Step is even BETTER (Six Stars?). It's about a little bird who thinks he'll NEVER learn to fly.
And that was also me, last night.

It was nearly midnight. I was trying to register for a courier service for my income tax. At least I succeeded at the end!
But - there was a catch.
At nearly 80, my short-term memory is a Sieve, and I never remember faces, names, and dates. How would I remember my 8-digit registration number?
Then I remembered how I learned The Piano Keys' names - by ROTE, when I was seven.
So for five minutes I drilled that code into my brain.
Well, at noon, still repeating that number, I mailed my envelope. The guy asked for the number, I repeated it Very Slowly. A moment later, he said BINGO!!
So I told him my story.
As I left, he chuckled and confessed that his grandma always told him, "memory is WORK! Use it or LOSE it!"
Take One More Step, Try One More Time by Vedika Agrawal is a beautifully written children's book focusing on a very important message - resilience.
I love a colourful children's picture book. What can I say? I used to have to read so many as a child that it's hard not to appreciate a good book as an adult. Sure, I might not be the perfect audience for a children's picture book, but being able to pick up a book and help it get a little more attention in a popular industry like the book business is just something small I can do to help indie authors.
I was approached to read six books from Doon Tales and this was one of them. I adored seeing that this book had an important message in the title - Take One More Step, Try One More Time. Little did they know, when I picked it up this book I needed this message to myself! It's been a long, busy, and tough week for me so it really hit home (even if it was in children's picture book form).
This book has so much in store for your young readers, such as: - A fantastic rhyming scheme that can make you sing along with the book (if you are as goofy as I am) - Pictures and an engaging story perfect for readers 3 through 5 years of age - Colourful and busy images that can bring a story out and be used to create an educational experience for young readers - Images that highlight how it feels to be a misfit and not feel like you fit in, allowing kids to see the vulnerability that comes along with the feelings - A fantastic theme and overall message about not giving up and doing our best
I absolutely loved this book and I highly recommend it as an educational tool or just a fun bedtime read with a great message. These are the kinds of children's picture books I get excited about!
Five out of five stars.
I received this book for free from Doon Tales in exchange for an honest review.
The illustrations are beautiful, and so is the message. Keep trying even when things get hard. Believe in yourself! ❤️ A few of the lines are a bit awkward, but otherwise i’d give it 5 stars! ⭐️
Dippy is a baby blue bird who is afraid to learn how to fly. Fortunately, she has a loving mother who encourages her along.
I love the illustrations! They are very colorful and cute! The sentences are rhyming and move the story along nicely.
This is a good story about self-esteem and learning to be confident, gaining a new skill. I was cheering Dippy on throughout the story, and clapping over her accomplishments at the end!
A fun story to read to little ones. A nice moral to share about being confident in one’s own abilities.
I was asked by the author to review the books for my honest opinion. This is a beautiful story expertly written about a baby bird, Dippy, and his journey to fly. Dippy tries and tries to fly and suddenly gets it. It touches on the importance of never giving up and using a baby bird is a wonderful analogy as he has to develop. An important lesson is taught in this book to keep trying.
Although the phrasing is awkward in two or three places, the language in this inspirational book is, on the whole, quite lovely. I like the fact that the rhyming isn’t forced but flows naturally. The illustrations are a breath of fresh air. Above all, the book is filled with wisdom and will impart self-confidence and patience in your young reader.
I remember reading the poem ' Try , try , try again ' in my moral science book when I was school. This book teaches the same through a beautiful story of a little bird. Beautiful illustrations and cute names and game at end make the book all the tempting to read. I wish I had a paperback of all such books. Must read! Highly recommended!
Dippy the baby bird is feeling nervous about the impending prospect of flying. Even though her friends are soaring high above, Dippy has labeled herself as incapable of doing what they can. Luckily, Dippy's mother is a positive and supportive influence on her life, and she encourages Dippy to keep trying even when things get hard. After much practice, Dippy discovers that she can not only overcome failure, but that she really does have what it takes to fly like the others. This picture book is geared toward any young reader who has ever struggled to learn something new, especially when peers are excelling more quickly. It is written in short, rhyming phrases, and the illustrations are the dominant component of each page. While the overall message is clear, the writing is lackluster and uses inconsistent meter and rhyming, which makes the story less compelling to read. The images make up for some of the weakness of the writing, thanks to their cartoon-like qualities and anthropomorphic animals. Young children reading this book will appreciate the visual component because of its bright colors and myriad characters, but the narrative could use some improvement. At the end of the book, readers find a game they can play that will help extend the intent of the book beyond the text. Though admirable in its goal, this book falls somewhat flat in its appeal and may not be able to adequately reach its intended audience.
Authors Vedika Agrawal and Kunal Das continue their ANIMAL KINGDOM Series of six books, of which TAKE ONE MORE STEP, TRY ONE MORE TIME is Book 3. Creative Concepts provides the charming illustrations.
Dippy is a young bird who fears she will never be able to fly, but with her mother’s encouragement - and after a few falls - Dippy does learn to fly through wisely coached persistence. Or as the mother states, ‘When you think the task is hard and you need a lifeline, Take one more step, try one more time.’ Fun to read with many fine important lessons, this book continues a very fine series of books for children by two outstanding authors. Very highly recommended.

This tory starts out with Bird Dippy and their mother feeds them but they are just sad. So fearful of falling and NOT being able to fly. They encourage Dippy to just try, one step at a time... Dippy is sad because she can’t fly. She doesn’t believe that she fits in with the other birds because of this. Instead of trying to fly, she gives up and tells her mother she’s not good at anything. Her mom explains to her that having the right attitude helps and that she needs to keep trying. So she does, and she finally flies!
This story is told in rhymes, and the pictures are colorful and will keep a child’s attention. It’s not only a story that will keep kids’ attention, but it teaches an important lesson about perseverance. I can’t wait to share this with my grandchildren!
Lovely motivational story for children Dippy is sad that she cannot fly as well as her mother. She realizes that her mother has to take care of her. Then her mother helps her understand the importance of keeping on trying till winning. Lovely motivation rhyming story told from mummy bird to Dippy. Beautiful illustrations too. Excellent simple story for children to believe in themselves and never give up.
Yes, Dippy, you can do it. Such a cute rhyming story about believing in yourself and never giving up. The pictures were adorable and fit with the story nicely. I would have given a five star but the formatting on the kindle made it difficult to read without having to zoom in. But that is my only complaint. Cute little book for folks of all ages.
This is a delightfully sweet story about a little bird with very little confidence. His mother teaches him to believe in himself and to try and try again. This is a moral that we could all stand to live by. This author has once again made a delightful little book that young children will surely enjoy!
