Lexi Graves Mysteries #4

Shock and Awesome

Rate this book
When a thief who preys on the super rich women of a high-end dating website turns up in Montgomery, it’s up to Private Investigator, Lexi Graves, to lure him out before he goes to ground. To make matters worse, he's evaded capture numerous times, and this might be the last chance to catch him before he retires altogether from the high stakes game.

Newly single and thoroughly confused, the last thing Lexi wants to do is date a string of men whose photos are optimistic, to say the least. But one on her short list is the thief and a rogue. Faux-dating a string of Not The Ones could help her discover not only which one he is, but also help her decide whom and what she wants in her personal life. Will it be her sexy, mysterious, boss, Solomon? Or handsome cop, Maddox?

Posing as a wealthy, glamorous, eligible bachelorette, complete with walk-in closet of designer clothes, sports car, and mansion, can be fun and games, but Lexi may have met her match when she becomes the next target in the thief’s sights. After all, he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. Along with her cash and borrowed jewels, this master thief might also want to steal her heart in the ultimate sting.

But as the case comes together, tragedy strikes, causing Lexi to question what is more important to her: racing to the aid of her best friend, or solving the case, no matter the cost.

I love this series. Lexie is feminine and still a kick ass heroine. She is aware of her beauty and uses it as a strength. She doesn't pretend she's average or anything like that to deflect. She embraces it and I love that. She's also funny and endearing and strong. Awesome heroine.

She has trust issues and I think that poor Maddox now realizes that by putting his job first he made Lexie doubt him and now he's paying the price. She realized she doesn't trust him even though he, truthfully didn't do what she thought she saw him do. Once that seed of doubt was planted and he didn't move mountains to unplant it, that was it for them. Sad, but he's not the man for her.

I laughed so many times in this book. Her friendship with Lily and their banter is lovely.

4 Stars...I'm continuing to really enjoy this series. Some of the situations at the end are truly hilarious. This series is saved from being 'sit-com' like, because the characters have deeper emotions than that. The reader can feel their sorrow, confusion, etc. My only nit pick with this one was the reason for Lexi and Solomon to pull back...shaky and contrived...especially after finding out that he was the one at the door at the end of book 3. As a plot device it worked well, because I just had to keep reading to find out what would happen, but I still thought it was a bogus reason. On to the next!

Totally loved this one! (book 4) This one was MUCH better than the last one!! There was a lot more humor & the 3 - way love triangle is finally resolved. Not who I wanted when I started this book but Camilla did a great job setting up Lexi's thought process to finally pick a guy so I was ok with it surprisingly. It was a nice ending & part of it was a little surprising. I hope the next book is more like this one & that book 3 is the only serious, intense one (compared to the others).

These books are cute. Humor is good, quips and quotes are funny and then a relatively good story. I enjoy the lightheartedness of the books. Sometimes need change from heavy duty mystery and drama.

At points this had me laughing out loud it was so funny. Lexi has to go undercover in a millionaire dating agency trying to catch a thief targeting millionaires, which was quite good fun. However I knew who the thief was from the suspect names and as soon as she met each one it was blindingly obvious. In fact it was so obvious I started to think both Lexi and the Solomon agency should give up the PI business for being too stupid to continue. Also it is clear Lexi is about to choose the wrong man. She shows an emotional immaturity that is getting annoying. If she was starting to fall head over heels for Maddox as she previously stated then she a) wouldn’t give up so easily and discard him without hearing him out and b) wouldn’t go falling into another man’s bed so readily. She is starting to come accords as a bit of a tart and spends too much time saying how gorgeous she looks. I also think Solomon is manipulative and not very nice. I have no issue with an unbelievable plot (can be great fun if done well) but I prefer a bit more depth to the characters than Lexi is showing. I love the supporting cast however and the date scene with the first millionaire date is so funny it’s worth the 4 stars just for that!

Fun read, fun series

I enjoyed this book and Lexi's friends and family. I like her relationships with her brothers. The mystery on this one was good. Looking forward to see what comes next. This book showed Lexi coming into her own. Confidence in her career, resolving changes in her residence and personal life all set the stage for the next book. Her friendship with Lily seems genuine. I love her brothers and the interaction(they always have her back) and humor. I also loved that Lexi was stalking a house and the "case" that spun off from there. I read a review which seemed very negative about Lexi being immature because she sticks her tongue out at her co-workers. It didn't come across that way to me at all. It seemed more of a work joking around (didn't bother me at all). I'm glad I didn't let that review deter me from continuing in the series. I find these books fun and relaxing to read. They have humor, mystery, romance and friendship.

the first few books I loved, but this one left me flat. I'm so annoyed with Lexi. she was in love with Maddox until she thought he cheated on her. She never gave him a chance to explain, and when he did, she refused to believe him and took up with Soloman almost immediately. I thought in this book she'd sought out her feelings for the two men and realise she was wrong about Maddox and they'd get back together because they loved each other, but now I just think she is a fickle tart. I won't be reading anymore of this series.

Loved loved Loved

Oh first off thank you for some direction in the closure of who Lexi was going to date now. I was sort of rooting for Solomon because even though I liked Maddox he wasn’t going to let Lexi succeed in her new career choice.

This story and the characters as so much fun to love and hate and laugh with and about. I can’t wait to see what happens next only disappointment is that the next book doesn’t have a audible narration.

Read these they are great but start at the beginning of the series makes the journey better.

C.chafer/shock and awesome

In this series lexie, under her boss orders is investigating an agency who specialize in wealthy clients meeting other wealthy clients in hoping to find which clientele is the thief who steals from wealthy women and it involved someone whom police from different jurisdiction has been trying to catch ,but, failing. Do not want to give the story away but need to read the series in order to understand the dynamic relationship wwit lexie boss, her ex boyfriend cop, maddox and the new questionable man she was dating while undercovee.

Ok

Kind of stupid. Especially the whole thing About not believing Maddox that he was on a steak out with another police woman When she saw them in a restaurant. That whole thing was so dumb and it went through 2 books. No woman in real life would not believe her boyfriend when he told her he had been faithful when it was obviously had been faithful. Just so annoying why do authors make their female characters stupid when they're trying to make them funny. Also I don't think these books are worth $5I think this is where I stop

I have loved these books. This one was not my fav. I am tired of the MC’s internal dialogue about looks, boyfriends, dating, and racing to keep up with those (women) she sees around her. This is an issue that’s old as patriarchy — to make women compete for the best men and to be their mates.

I am also disappointed at the very ending. Her lone-ranger is getting tiring here too. Like she has to one up her colleagues. Why not work together and be happy for other’s success?

I may still continue with the series. I do like some of the characters.

Not my favorite of the lexi grave mysteries but still a good read. Definitely some laugh out loud moments and it’s keeps you guessing on who the unsub really is. Plus, big things are happening for Lexi- and we finally get to hear more about the pretty yellow bungalow that Lexi has been pining for since book 1. A side mystery surrounds it’s neighbor. Lexi stays confused about Maddox and Solomon throughout the book but the ending brings a resolution.

A master thief robs rich women of their jewels & Solomon puts Lexi undercover as a rich single woman complete with a mansion, luxury sports car, & fake jewels. She's approached by two men one with a charming British accent. But there are two men in her life & her best friend in danger. Can Lexi pull off the sting?

Shock and Awesome: Lexi Graves Book #4

Again, a re-reading to make a review. But that's OK, because this series is so fun to read and really cleans out my palate from reading boring or poorly written stories. I have grown to really love Ms. Chafer's humor at naming her titles in this series. It really adds to the fun of the characters and plot. Lexi is such a strong character that is hard not to like her. She goes toe-to-toe with those who don't trust her instincts and have faith in her, especially since she is all girlie and defies the stereotypes. It's a very nice surprise to read about a female character like that.

Now, on to the review. This one was a lot more sexier than previous ones, and that's A-OK. I have read other stories that followed the same plot: young woman detective (well, Lexi is 29ish,) with two beau chasing her; none of the other series I have read, so far, have been able to have been written as well as this one was. I'm not sure if it's that the story just seems natural (one slowly falling away,) or if it's the plot that makes it work so well. But whatever, I didn't find my eyes rolling at the progress of the characters in this series. Also, in previous stories, Lexi had, like the last two chapters to gradually wrap things up. The author had the action happen right to the end. I appreciated that a whole lot. There were some sad moments in this story, but overall, a great screwball-like cozy. Very enjoyable and entertaining. I will say that the ending felt much more cliff-hangery, but I still feel that if the reader wanted to stop reading the series at this point, it would be OK.

Also, reading this book first, before all others: the reader might feel a little lost, but not completely. There is brief hints at past stories that entice new readers to go back and read them, which is always a good thing. Though I still believe the reader is best served by reading them in order, this story is developed enough that back-reading isn't a priority. I was going to stop reading at this story, but I discovered I have one more book in this series that I bought that I haven't read, so I'm going to read that and then re-assess whether I should stop for the time being, or continue to get completely caught up. Two days to read book. Awesome! Four stars. (7/16-17)

Ever since I discovered the Lexi Graves series I've been barreling through a book a day. I just love the characters and the crazy situations Lexi finds herself in time after time. "Shock and Awesome" finds Lexington investigating a string of thefts of very rich women. So, Solomon Investigations and MPD team up by sending Lexi undercover in a millionaire dating service.

While undercover, Lily tells Lexi that her parents have sold their apartment and they have four weeks to vacate. Lexi is saddened especially with everyone around her pairing up and moving forward with their lives and she can't seem to figure out who she wants. Adam or Solomon. But the good news is that the little yellow bungalow she has always admired is up for sale. She just has to make sure the next door neighbor isn't a serial killer who eats his victims.

Meanwhile, Solomon is standoffish while Adam wants more. Lexi's sister Serena is dating one of Lexi's co-workers, her mother wants to.go on a drive along with the MPD and Lily and Jord are in the process of buying a house and opening a night club. Life sure isn't dull in Lexington Graves life.

I really enjoyed this installment. For once Lexington wasn't injured but there was one very sad moment as well. No, I won't reveal what it is. This series just keeps getting better and better. Well, enough for me. I'm off to read book 5.

Another fun Lexi Graves Mystery. I really love these books!! I ended up reading the whole series again before I picked this one up. Needed to be refreshed and having a good Maddox and Solomon fill, lol. The only thing I can say I am not to fond with this book is the lead Solomon has taking with regards to Lexi's feelings, I am totally a Maddox fan, lol. Not say Solomon isn't swoon worthy....far from it, there is just something I like more with Maddox. I really hope the end of the series swings in my favor, ahaha....

Camilla Chafer knows how to write a great book. The story line was great, the book was written smoothly and it had me captured all the way through the end. So much that I lost a lot of sleep last night. I refused to go to bed until I was finished with this book!! Unfortunately, that gave me only 4 hours of sleep, lol.

If you have not read this series I would highly recommend it, you will not be disappointed!!!

I can't wait till the next one and hope that it comes out soon!!!
