Under the Paramount Rule: Tales of Oakpark Grange

Rate this book
Under the Paramount Rule: Tales of Oakpark Grange is Tanya Simmonds’ final novel – a compendium of eight classic femdom novelettes that explore the very essence of power and sexual sadism. Oakpark Grange is a school for young aristocratic failures, where masturbation is strictly forbidden – and severely punished!

Dawn of the Vixen – The origin tale introduces headmistress, Lady Selina Paris, who discovers that one of her pupils has a dirty little secret. After severely caning him for his wanton self-gratification, she discovers her own long-hidden sexuality.

The Assistant - Selina learns that she has a kindred in the world. Celia Ramirez is beautiful, a qualified teacher, and a rabid sadist. Together, they raise Oakpark Grange’s punishment regime to entirely new heights.

The Lady in the Dark Veil - Selina finds her young stable hand masturbating when he is supposed to be working, and decides to show him the extreme side of discipline. However, a mysterious figure appears with a secret powerful enough to destroy Selina forever.

Olga’s Selection – Selina’s new husband disrespects her lifelong friend, Olga, who has the right to administer his punishment, but not to take his body. For that, she must choose which pupil will satisfy her post-flagellation lust.

Charlotte - As the pupils live in abject fear of their libidinous tutors, there is one among them who relishes their cruelty with the same lustful passion.

The Submissive – Dennis is a quiet pupil. But one day, he asks Selina to punish him, and begs her to let him be her slave. Her power diffused, how can she possibly respond?

Unbreakable – A mysterious new pupil arrives at Oakpark Grange whom Selina cannot control. Has she met her match?

Megan’s Awakening - The truth behind The Paramount Rule is finally revealed as Selina passes the torch – to her own daughter.

This author never fails to impress me. I finally got round to reading Under the Paramount Rule, and I would say it is probably the most beautifully written of her books so far. (Try to imagine the Jane Austen of porn.) It’s definitely a return to the ‘Book 1’ universe, but delivers even more. It’s an anthology of eight tales the first three of which take place before Book 1. Tales 4-8 take place after Book 1 in successive decades.

Unlike Reformation: The Paramount Rule Book III, where there was a large portion of the world to explore, this one is confined to the walls of Oakpark Grange throughout. I would imagine keeping everything fresh under such a restriction would have been a tall order, but Ms Simmonds kept the surprises coming. I think this is because of the wide variety of diverse personality types described in each tale. It’s a very character driven entry in the series, but is still extremely sexually graphic for the most part. Unique to the series is Ms Simmonds' ability to vividly describe sexual acts and anatomy without the use of a single vernacular term. It makes me think she must have exhausted the New Oxford Dictionary writing these books.

Top picks are Tales 1, 3, and 7. Tale #1 (Dawn of the Vixen) is lean on sexual imagery (barring a couple of scenes of masturbation) but is so realistic I’m confident we can remove it from the ‘fantasy’ category. Set in 1946, this tale accurately portrays the remnants of Victorian sexual repression, the brutality of the English public school sector, and the hypocrisy of its tyrannical mindset. Tale #3 (The Lady in the Dark Veil) tells the story behind the mysterious prologue of Book 1. It’s very sexually graphic, brutally cruel, but also incorporates an intriguing mystery plot with a highly satisfying ironic twist. Tale #7 (Unbreakable) is one of the lesser porn entries that delves into ‘mystery thriller’ territory. The reveal of the lead guest character’s agenda is so unique I can’t help wondering if there is more to this tale than meets the eye. It’s also abundantly clear that Ms Simmonds is passionately attacking the notion of domination throughout.

I was surprised by how emotional the ending was, given that the protagonist was probably one of the most despicable characters I’ve ever read. Nevertheless, it does provide a seamless lead in to the futuristic Paramount Rule III. In hindsight, I wish I’d have read Under the Paramount Rule first.

In conclusion, a truly unique and stunning series that raises the bar to an extraordinary height and, in my opinion, leaves virtually all other BDSM novels in the dust.

This book was brilliantly written. The progression of an older woman discovering her own sexuality her power over men, and how it evolved into a culture we know today and even beyond or maybe worse than toxic feminism. My only complaint is that the scenes weren't long enough, it was more like Titanic, where the old lady tells of an old tale. A very sexy tale, but patchy nonetheless. I'm also unhappy about the lack of resistance from the male students in general, the lack of realism behind it, and the participation of the males overall. BDSM doesn't require spelling out every right and boundary, but it does require participation, even from the sub, otherwise you can just dominate a plastic dildo, why dominate a human being?
