Follow Drake Halifax, a man disgusted with the depravity he sees in the cities. He embarks on a mission, recruiting his father, a distinguished member of the bar, and a young woman who finds the grass is greener on the other side. His mission ends with the death of the Arbiter but the war has only begun.
Drake is privileged. He has wealth and power. However, he sees the evil influence that power and wealth is having on the "little people". As he travels the city of Brooke, the stark differences between the two is evident in Sim's amazing descriptions. The inference that the weather in the city is a reflection of the emotions of the populace is wonderful.
Drake has decided to correct the situation, he enlists the help of his father and a woman to whom he is strangely drawn. He knows it isn't love because he doesn't believe in it.
Drake must rid the world of the "Arbitrator" who has misused his position of power and is destroying society. Drake is part of a secret society whose goal is to fix the cities.
Will ridding the world of the Arbitrator really solve everything? What does his mother, presumed dead, have to do with anything?
Sim masterfully draws you into this story of intrigue, double-agents, and suspense. Her descriptions are amazing!
Personally, I am glad I found this book after the others were written because the suspence would have killed me!
