Fantastic Story

This is Ed Wade’s first novel and it is a gem. I had to research his special operations experience and found he has none which makes this book all the more compelling. It was clearly well researched as well as captivating. The story chronicles a Seal and an Army helo pilot’s experience and how it led them to a major weapons dealer and their crusade to destroy his empire.

It was a fasr read and I finished it in two days.

One note for the author, the Navy hasn’t had a Seaman First Class since 1965. Now he is a Seaman. Minor glitch.

I read the books in reverse order and enjoyed getting the relationship origin story etc. I am a big fan of The Cork O’Connor series by William Kent Krueger and The Bob Lee Swagger series by Stephen Hunter so this book checked my boxes in a big way.

I'll admit I decided to check out this book because it was by former baseball GM Ed Wade and featured on MLB.com (plus I was able to borrow for free on Amazon). That said, it was a good first work of fiction, especially for subjects that are probably outside the author's wheelhouse. It certainly packs a lot into a very short story (I read it in one day, with little effort), and while some of the events and timeline may seem a bit unrealistic, the premise was entertaining, the characters were developed within the constraints of its length, and personally I kind of liked how it ended. Four stars may seem a but much, but three didn't feel like it was doing it justice.
