(Spin-off of Planning on Forever)

College.

Parties, sororities and getting drunk.

Oh, yeah. And learning.

This may be true for most college students, but not for Leah Bennett. College life for her includes studying, working, and excelling in school. When it comes to the social ladder, Leah is at the bottom. Popular girls, hot guys and star athletes are of no importance to her, except for one.

Matthew Jacobs.

Matt is the starting wide receiver at SUNY Cortland, the most wanted guy on campus and Leah’s best friend. Although Leah’s feelings toward Matt run deeper than just a friendship, it is something she would never let be seen because the odds of someone like Matthew Jacobs going for someone like Leah Bennett are slim to none.

When Matt starts showing an interest in Leah that goes beyond friendship, she is dumbfounded and doesn’t believe it is possible – until one weekend that changes everything.

Will Matt and Leah’s popularity status get in the way of having a chance at a real relationship?

Or does status mean nothing when it comes to true love?

Since I am the author of this book, I'm being slightly biased; however, I do believe Waiting on Forever is a wonderful love story. I connected with Leah and Matt more so than any of my previous characters. Leah's wit cracked me up and Matt's huge heart had me sighing more than a few times. I am very in love with this story and I hope you all enjoy it, too.

The A-ha!! moment comes on the very last page when the author reveals that she "didn't read at all" until she (like everyone else and their dog) discovered Fifty Shades of Grey. She writes: "I read the whole series in three days. Yes, three books in three days." as if it was some Olympic record.

Gurl, on Goodreads that would be considered a reading slump.

Anyway, the best way to describe this novel is that it READS like it was written by someone who didn't read at all until she read 50SoG. It's a straight sweet story of two college freshmen who fall in love fast with very little conflict. The conflict consists of a misunderstanding that lasts all of 2 days and is resolved by text message. Seriously, what writer resolves a book's only misunderstanding by text message? That's about as exciting and interesting as reading about bellybutton staring.

Oh yeah. . . . an author didn't read at all until she read 50SoG.

Review—Waiting on Forever by Ashley Wilcox

“’Wait, you’re part of orientation?’ I ask the nerdy girl that has been taking picture after picture…”

Matthew Jacobs is a jock who meets photography major Leah Bennett for the first time at college orientation. He’s cute and she’s trying not to be interested, after all, boys like Matt go for girls who have more air than brains in their heads, not girls like Leah. Except Matt sees different; he sees a beautiful girl who doesn’t take ish from anyone, a girl who is smart and different—a challenge!

“It’s been two months since Matt and I met at orientation and up until this week our relationship has been strictly online friends…this is Matt we’re talking about. Tall, brown hair, hazel eye, muscular, hot, sexy, makes my skin tingle, heart throb, Matt.”

Challenge accepted and conquered!

No matter what Leah tried to tell herself, she knew Matt was different…and he wants her. She never thought it was possible and now she not only has been his friend but now, *gasp* his girlfriend—when did that happen?

“I stand there frozen, watching him dig through his drawers and thinking about all that has changed in such a short period of time. I’m no longer a loner. I’m hopelessly in love and have gone from a total prude to a raging nympho. I’m loving my new life and have no plans of ever turning back.”

To say this was just a story of young love would be wrong. Yes, it’s a love story, a rather awesome one, but there’s more. The way these two people come together is typical of college life but what brought them to that college at the same time is what makes this anything but your typical “boy meets girl” story. I really enjoyed how Matt & Leah’s relationship developed. I also loved how they came to be the individuals they are; each with their respective pasts. Yes, I cried. Yes, I laughed out loud—Leah is hilarious and snarky! At the end I felt good and was completely satisfied. That is this book, a feel-good, satisfying read and I look forward to more from Ms. Wilcox.

Definitely Worth **4** Swoontastic Stars!

Is it possible for two seemingly opposites to have a relationship with each other?

This book took me back in time to my college years: arriving naïve and innocent, learning about relationships, and experiencing a lot of “first times.” It’s especially during those years, when we can easily find ourselves labeling a person just by initial impressions. However, this story makes the reader look beyond the surface to see what’s beyond one’s physical appearance.

In the prologue, readers meet the two central characters, both freshmen. Leah Bennett, a photography major:

[image error] photo girlwithcamera_zps6c8606e3.jpg

and Matthew Jacobs, a football scholarship recipient, majoring in physical education.

[image error] photo footballplayer_zps66cc56ae.jpg

Their first meeting occurs at an orientation, where both characters assess each other based on stereotypes. Their encounter is described from Matt’s point of view. Matt takes one look at Leah and thinks “Even though this girl is screaming nerd, she’s actually pretty cute.” However, Leah is wary of Matt, since he’s a “jock” and, unlike other girls, isn’t impressed with him.

When Leah discovers Matt’s major, her snicker draws his attention:

“Is there a problem with my major?” I ask Leah.

“Nope, not at all,” she responds, clearly lying.

“I’ve always wanted to be a gym teacher,” I state defensively.

“I’m sure you have,” she says with even more sarcasm.

“what’s that supposed to mean?”

“All you jocks major in the same thing, she says matter-of-factly”

Leah's sassy, bold comments spark Matt's interest, and that's how their relationship begins. They become friends through Facebook and French class. As Leah learns more about Matt, she questions her initial impression of him:
“Normally I don’t converse with athletes, but after getting to know him better I noticed he wasn’t as arrogant and pig-headed as most football players are…”

Until the epilogue, the rest of the story is told from Leah’s point of view, helping readers understand this dynamic character, who is atypical of many young adults. She defines herself as a “social outcast,”who is unconcerned with dating or having a social life. Yet, the depth of her character makes it is easy for readers to connect with Leah. Although she thinks she’s a “nerd” and figures everyone else does as well, it doesn’t stop her from being herself. She’s confident in who she is and refuses to be intimidated by others,“I may be nerdy and quiet, but I don’t let stupid people walk all over me.” Her wit, sarcasm, and snarky thoughts make her a downright likeable character.

Although Leah is attracted to him, she is too is quick to make assumptions about Matt’s character based on his status:
“I can’t let Matt know how he makes me feel inside. Matt and I can never be a couple and our relationship can never be more than friends. He’s a popular jock that goes for popular girls and he is totally out of my league.”

However, Leah finds herself doing things as an excuse just to be around Matt. For example, she’s willing to entertain his friends who come into town, and she goes jogging around the track just so she can see Matt practicing with his team: “I’ve never seen the point in running and I’ve always wondered how people sought enjoyment from it, but if it gets me in viewing distance of Matt for a little while then running is what I’ll do.”

[image error] photo girlrunningontrack_zps0f5cf1eb.jpg

Even if she won’t admit her feelings for Matt are anything more than friendship, her actions prove otherwise.

Matt’s character defies being stereotyped and he proves to Leah that there is a lot more to him than his looks and interest in football. His honesty and integrity are to be admired. Aware of Leah’s cautiousness, Matt gradually reveals his romantic feelings to her, changing the way she defines herself. She gains the confidence to move beyond her “nerd” status.

[image error] photo girllearningtobesexy_zps1e500bb4.jpg

The passion and love they find in each other is new for both of them and can only be described as intense, yet tender and heart-warming.

[image error] photo intimacy---Istimewa_zpsc00190d5.jpg

This is an even-keeled romance without a lot of angst in the relationship, which I found refreshing. Although the plot is at times predictable, by no means is it a boring read. Conflict and drama are present as the plot unfolds, showing the reader realistic ups and downs of falling in love.

I found myself smiling, chuckling, and even tearing up throughout the book. I’m not a sappy type of person, but I sure did become one by the end of the story, rooting for that happily ever after.

Waiting on Forever is a college romance about Leah and Matt. The story is told in Leah’s POV, except for the prologue and epilogue, which are told from Matt’s perspective (and are awesome btw). This has the nerdy girl meets big man on campus kind of theme to it and I think it was executed really well in this book.

Matt and Leah first meet at freshman orientation before school starts. They chat, but Leah is very much into academics and thinks Matt is just another meathead jock with nothing to say. This of course makes Matt instantly intrigued by her.

Even though this girl is screaming nerd, she’s actually pretty cute. Not to mention that I’m always drawn to the girls who don’t give you the time of day at first. They give you more of a challenge, instead of the fake airheads who will bend over for you if you just smile their way.

They strike up an easy friendship, but nothing major, mostly just chatting online here and there. Leah is resigned to the fact that that’s the most she’s ever going to have with Matt.

There’s a reason why Matt and I have never hung out together, and that’s because we come from two different sides of the social ladder. Where Matt is Mr. Popular football player, I’m the artsy nerd who would be stared and pointed at walking into a jock house party.

That isn’t what Matt has in mind though and soon Leah is completely confused. What starts out as chatting on Facebook turns into suggestive winks, walking her to class, forehead kisses (my weakness!), and other cute little signs that maybe he wants more than just friendship. When Matt’s best friend, Collin and his girlfriend (the couple from Planning on Forever) come to visit they seem to know an awful lot about Leah. Soon their relationship progresses and brings about some challenges with the different “social classes” and other surprises.

Even though Leah comes off as a ‘nerd’ and thinks she isn’t Matt’s type, she wasn’t trying to change herself to fit what she thought he might want in a girl. I love that she wasn’t a pushover at all, she has a mouth on her and is pretty feisty. She could stand up for herself against the bitchy girls without so much as batting an eyelash. Her and Matt were really cute together and the texting screenshots – that was unique and fun :) I loved Matt too! He was genuine, sweet, but confident and protective of his girl.

“You don’t have to do a damn thing,” he says with sincerity in his eyes. “I’ve been fallin’ since day one.”

There were little things like the pacing toward the end with one of the twists that I think could have been executed better, but overall I enjoyed the story. The epilogue completely wraps up the story and you aren’t left wondering what might happen. It was a nice break from the overly angsty college reads and was really cute.

This is a spin-off of Planning on Forever, but can be read as a stand alone.

This is a quick, cute, predictabe read with an HEA.

Quite a few squirmy, eye-roll inducing parts but that's almost to be expected with this type of book.

The writing, for the most part is pretty good, although it does get pretty juvenile at times..and then completley gross and TMI to the point of being unsexy and weird at others.

I did really like how the text messages between Matt & Leah show up as graphics in the story! I thought that was pretty cool. And new.

I also really liked how the story wraps up with double epilogues and a complete happy ending as a stand alone. Pretty refreshing, with all the sequels and prequels and novellas and what-not floating around, to just read a story that ends when the book does.

All that being said, I can't give this book more than three stars because of my own internal rating system. Although I really do appreciate being given an ARC and I do think Ashley Wilcox has the potential to write a best-seller someday, I just don't think this is it.

For starters, this is just complete predictable fluff with no real substance. Maybe that's what the author is going for here, I don't know. If that's the case, she hit the nail on the head. I'm just saying, for me to give a book a 4 or 5 star rating, there's got to be something more to it..maybe just more feeling. There's hardly any character development here, either. There are a few parts in the story that have the potential to become that sort of angsty, emotional "thing" that kinda makes a great book so great, but they're handled in such a fluffy (and unbelievable) way that any angst that does develop quickly fizzles. And the story is told in a first person, present tense voice.. which is extremely hard to pull off amd get right. It just doesn't quite work for these types of stories, IMO.

Anyways, while this is by no means the worst book I've ever read, its definitely not the greatest, either. I actually did enjoy reading it (cringe-worthy moments and all), but its definitely not going to ever be a favorite, or a re-read.

Like I mentioned, I do think with a little more work and imagination, Ashley Wilcox has the potential to produce something great!

Thank you Ashley for writing one of my absolute favorite books! I love everything about this book. Matt is a popular football star in college and he meets Leah, they hit it off immediately, however since Matt is HOT, Popular, all around hunk of love! Leah keeps her growing feelings to herself, she thinks she is not worthy of Matt! She thinks he is everything she is not.

Things change when Matt needs help in their french class, Leah starts tutoring him, they spend more and more time together! Feelings change, Leah sees that Matt is more than just a popular, HOT Jock! He's really sweet, caring and I totally fell in love with him! you will too. He has some family secrets that will bring you to tears! Their friendship blooms into so much more! Their passion will leave you breathless....HOT! Erotic!

You will love this book so much! The emotions are so deep, I had to take a break from reading to gather my emotions (in a very good way). Amazing journey that you will love to take!

There's a difference between being sassy or being just plain rude. Heroine was the latter. Would have rated higher if the h was nicer, wasn't as annoying, and you know... was likeable.

This was book #2 in the Forever Series. They say it is a stand alone or spin off I say NOPE you HAVE to read book one. When you do you will see the growth of the characters and the author. This book was smarter and sexier if that is possible. I so enjoyed when Collin and Summer came to visit Matt. It brought the first book and the characters right back to you. So see don't skimp, buy book one. Parties, sororities and getting drunk are the opposite of Leah Bennett. Leah is cute and comes equipped with a smart mouth. She is not the typical football player's girlfriend. The day she meets Matthew Jacobs, is the day her future is sealed. She doesn't know it and she is so secretive that her coy attitude doesn't give the "real" Leah away. Her room-mate Kayla is the polar opposite. She lives College life for her self and puts studying second. Leah explains Kayla "Although Kayla is completely harmless and would never hurt a fly, she is dumber than a box of rocks, and I would rather listen to her nails dragging on a chalkboard then have her chatting my ear off about nothing at all."
She realizes that Matt is not at all what she thought him to be. Just because he is in a frat house and the star wide receiver, doesn't mean he has no standards. Apparently Matt shows he is a little bit of an alpha male. Leah thinks she has him pegged and is confused by his actions then it becomes clear. "Now hearing him say that, this picture I've drawn of him is false"
Another hilarious quote, that doesn't give plot away is "Holy fin Mother Theresa! He did not just say that me bowling a perfect game is a turn on!"
Last night it happened! "Finally feeling like a true college student, I didn't go home last night" How cute is that? I think really cute.
Location 1413 "What the hell? Am I a dick-a-holic now?" Another laugh and spit on the kindle!

So they are cute and the entire story has it's ups and downs. There was a reveal that sort of blew me away because it explained Matthew's family. Just the right amount of everything boiled in a pot and served up like a 5 star meal! Read it and enjoy the story, it continues with Promising Forever in May and then in July Giving You Forever. Get in line now this author rocks and I want more already!

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.

I have to say that I found this book really refreshing. It was great to read about a Hero that was not your typical messed up man whore. Matt was a down to earth guy who was looking for a real relationship. He was not out to sleep with every bimbo in a 2 mile radius. And Leah was just amazing. She was smart and strong and funny. She didn't let things get her down.
The story was really sweet. Not a lot of drama or angst. Just a nice tale of two people meeting in college and falling in love. Matt really was a sweetheart who was handed a shit card looking for a better life. And he found that with Leah. The two were perfect for each other. It is nice to read about characters that I feel that I relate to more. I loved the double epilogue at the end. I love to read how characters turn out in the end. It makes me nuts when there is no epilogue and we are left wondering what happens to the characters. But to get two was awesome.
While the story flowed nicely, I just wished that it was a little longer and some parts were a little more in depths. It would have been great to read a little more of Matt's Pov. I love getting into the Male mind, lol.
But all in all this was a great and refreshing read. I love Ashley Wilcox and will definitely read more of her in the future.

So I didn't read the first book in the series but that's irrelevant....
The only thing that matters is where to find me a Matt? Is this a White Plains thing (do they breed them out there?) because I'll make the train ride!
If not that, then SUNY Cortlandt, you better accept my transfer credits!!!

Matt was so sweet...not an idiot moment at all for this boy! Which is the opposite of like every book you find out there nowadays (boy has a-hole, controlling tendencies and then grovels in a grossly public forum). But not Matt...he is sweet, attentive, caring, stands up for his girl, and does not conform to douchebag stereotypes!!!

And Leah, the nerd girl whose not afraid to THROW DOWN! I loved her because I could totally relate to her. (I might stick to my books, but don't think you'll leave unmarked if you mess with me!). I loved how she was willing to stand up for herself at times and I also loved the lack of insta-love. It was a real courtship. I did think she cast Kayla aside too quickly in the beginning, but that was rectified.

She was amaze-balls, he was amaze-balls, they were amaze-balls together and the steam...hmmm...I could commence building that sauna on that alone!

Well, if you couldn't tell from all the gush, I WUVED this book! :)

Review:

Waiting on Forever truly makes you feel that you are on
cloud 9 that only a good book can bring.

Leah Bennett is content with her life. She is passionate about photography, studious, and is perfectly fine with the life she has been living. She accepted that there our are social ladders that certain people fit and she didn't mind, until she met Matthew Jacobs. Meeting Matt felt exactly like she expected other football players felt:

KNOCKED OFF HER FEET!

Here was this amazing guy who wasn't your typical jock that happened to actually want to talk to her? Was she being PUNK'd or did you she mysteriously fall into:

THE TWILIGHT ZONE?!

Matt Jacobs knows two things, Football and Leah Bennett!

He is floored by her wit and humor and her beauty but couldn't get enough of her.  He realizes that she doesn't want to cross the "Friend" line and it's killing him. He wants her and he wasn't going to stop at nothing to get her!

Now there were moment's where I really felt like I was going to self combust from the sexual tension and I literally was like:

LEAH JUST TELL HIM ALREADY!!!!

But when Matt takes the reigns and really lays it on Leah and holds nothing back, I was on the edge my seat and mumbling to myself:

OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!

So should you read this book?

Will you be disappointed?

So my suggestion is the following...

TYPE: GO BUY THE DAMN THING!!!

Or Just click here -->>> HERE

AND GET IT NOW!!!!

And one final thought,  just a warning...

once the good parts come, be ready because you certainly will be:

ENJOY!!!

About the Author:

Some may consider me a jack of all trades, but I consider myself well rounded. I've waitressed, styled hair, answered phones and, most recently, worked full time as mom to my two beautiful little boys.

Then there was this book...

Everyone and their brother started talking about this book series titled Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James. I didn't really pay attention to the craze at first, since I wasn't a big reader- okay, I didn't read at all. But curiosity got the best of me, so I downloaded it to my kindle.

I was immediately hooked. I read the whole series in three days. Yes, three books in three days.I kept finding all these great books that I HAD to read (just ask my credit card!).

Then I started hearing voices. Voices that turned into stories; stories that were begging to get out of my head.I started writing them down on scraps of paper. Then I transferred them to my computer. Before I knew it, Planning on Forever was born.

The voices in my head are still talking, so I'm still writing.

This book is so sweet it will make your teeth hurt. I LOVED our hero and heroine - they are so adorable together. I would go "AWWWWW" practically every other page. Leah is a photography major who is short, brunette, wears glasses and a little sassy, while Matt is a football star, a shy grin, with a somewhat tragic backstory - opposites attract anyone? Plus, they are each other's first and only love.

In regards to OW drama, Matt kissed a girl off the page while he was really drunk and sad, but this was before anything happened with Leah. In fact, he tells her he was so drunk and sad because he thought he wouldn't stand a chance with her after meeting her at orientation. Depending on the story, this would be a "safe" deal-breaker for me, but Matt is so thoughtful and adorable with everything else, there is no deviousness or over the top alpha tendencies to make me question that one incident or hold it against him. He will touch the small of her back and takes things slowly with Leah. He takes her bowling on their first date with his friends (whom he has already declared Leah as his girlfriend too). Matt would wait outside her dorm every morning to walk her to class. He was the one who would text saying he misses her. He got a special case of beer so that Leah had the kind she liked. He invited her to movie night with his football teammates. Matt got her a special jersey to wear (in her VIP seat) with his name on the back. All the feelings.

Leah was also really good to Matt. She told her parents about him in the most adorable way possible. She acted normal, trying to decipher if the kiss on the forehead was romantic or friendly (aka relatable). When he was dealing with family issues she was supportive. They were just really good together.

Cuteness all around. <3

Even though Matt and I have only spent one night together, waking up by myself in my own bed leaves a sad lonely feeling in my chest.

Very sweet read - Funny and fun. I love when the popular jock goes for the smart, edgy girl - this one is a self-described "photography nerd" And hero was awesome, no alpha-holeness, and no OTT drama.

Ok, so here's the deal..I actually read this book before the first book in the series. Matt and Leah's story was a bit more appealing to me and my instinct was right. Not that I didn't like the first book, but Waiting on Forever had a better flow and the character development was much stronger.

Here's what I liked about Leah: she's smart, a bit sassy, and honest. I appreciated the fact that while she did have a mad crush on Matt, she didn't bow down to him just because he was a star athlete. She definitely put him in his place a time or two. I also like that Leah came from a 'normal' family. It was a nice change from all the issues books I read. Not to say there aren't issues here, but at least one part of the couple was relatively happy/healthy/stable.

Now to Matt. I really loved Matt. He's such a sweet guy. He's this big time star athlete at the university, but he doesn't act like a typical jock kind of guy. When he first met Leah, he was a bit timid. He wanted her to see him as more than just an athlete. So, he pursued her! Yes, pursued. It was adorable. I loved the flirting between the two. Matt and Leah had a great connection.

Where's the drama, you ask? Well, Matt's past is a bit rocky. Not that he was bad or anything, but his mother had been an addict. She gave him up to his grandparents right after he was born. They raised him for most of his life, but died right before he finished high school. The significance to this fact is that it has made Matt a bit guarded. He's never really had a relationship with a girl. But, with Leah he feels like he's found someone special. And when his mom re-enters his life, Leah is there by his side.

Overall, I thought Waiting on Forever was a sweet story. I loved that the nerdy girl got the star athlete, but it was much more than that. Matt and Leah complimented each other well. And I will tell you tell you that there were some really great steamy moments too! If you're looking for quick, sweet read that has a little spice...check this one out.

I'm not sure what he's referencing, the perfect game I just bowled or the kiss we just shared. Even though bowling a perfect game is frickin amazing as hell, I'd pick our kiss ten times over if asked which felt better. -Loc 716

First off let me start out by saying I love ALL of Ashley's writing it's just I think this book is her best by far, each time she puts out a new book you see her writing get more mature, more juicy, and more entertaining, it's kinda like seeing a kid grow into an adult. Leah was nothing like I expected, it's always the quiet ones that have loads to say which I loved, "Sorry, sweetheart. I may be nerdy and quiet, but I don't let stupid people walk all over me." Matt was also nothing that I expected, when you think of jocks you think of hornballs, and disgusting pigs, not Matt he was so sweet, "You're the only girl that I've ever allowed in my bedroom, so don't feel grossed out about sitting on my bed." He's also sexy but not overly sexy ya know? "Go get 'em Babe," Matt whispers in my ear gently tapping my butt." (He's totally a butt man) He's also honest but not overly honest (sometimes that is a good thing in men) "You look so f***ing sexy that all I want to do is throw you over my shoulder, haul you up to my room, and make sweet motherf***in' love to you." You see Matt and Leah are seriously perfect for each other, Matt shows Leah the meaning of life (or that fact that there is more to just studying) and Leah shows Matt that not all quiet, reserved girls are nerdy and no fun. I really loved this book Ashley always does a great job but as I said in the beginning this book was so much more.

Matt & Leah's friendship/banter is so cute to watch. Matt is so sweet and sincere that it's a breath of fresh air. Leah is there for Matt when some trying times from his past arise and the support present is key. Matt & Leah both know what they want in life and it's nice to watch their journey to that happiness. Leah is tough as nails and I love to hear about girls sticking up for themselves. Matt & Leah are both dedicated and seeing them have their priorities in line is refreshing. I was shaking my head at times but had to remind myself this is "young love". The ending came so soon and flashed forward so quickly that it left me wanting more details. Did this story make me laugh out loud-yes, did I cry-yes, and did I swoon for the football player-hell yes!! Ashley's writing has truly blossomed since Planning on Forever and I can't wait to read the several other books she has planned for The Forever series. All of her characters mesh together perfectly and it's nice to see them make appearances in each others stories to catch up on where they are. And I can't wait for Kayla's story as I'm anxious to see what's hidden under that ditsy side of hers. Give this a try!

Thanks Anna, I hated it. But I love you though.

This book was 9000% one of the biggest train wrecks I have ever read. The MFC, Leah, was a RIDICULOUS excuse for a human being, her love Matthew was a wet blanket who needed to grow a set of balls and the ONLY character I actually felt had some sort of personality was Kayla, Leah's poor roommate who got slut shamed for enjoying sex in fucking college. This book was FULL of stereotypes and some of the most CHILDISH writing I've ever seen from a romance novel. I had so many problems with this book that I'm not even sure where to fucking start...

**SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY**

-LEAH, lets start with this child. I call her that because that's what she acted like. She might have been 18 or whatever, but was 12 through the whole book. I've never read a female character with so much judgmental bullshit flying around in her head. She literally judged EVERYONE. One girl just ASKS HER A QUESTION and Leah decides she's a slut. I mean, what the actual fuck? Is this what the author thinks college is like? Just nothing but sluts and jocks? Because that's all Leah thought were around her....sluts and jocks. Leah was supposed to be a nerd. I love this type of trope, which is why I read the damn book...but let me tell you, Leah wasn't a GOD DAMN NERD. What made her a nerd exactly? Because let me tell you, NOTHING besides her wearing glasses and talking about studying is mentioned in this book. For a book FULL of stereotypes for jocks and sorority girls, Leah fits not ONE STEREOTYPE for being a nerd. She doesn't play D&D, isn't into LARP, she isn't shy or awkward (in fact, apparently she's a pretty big bad ass with words of venom and a mean left hook), she doesn't make nerdy Doctor Who references or read comics, she doesn't have allergies, she doesn't watch anime, she doesn't even ACTUALLY FUCKING STUDY so what the actual FUCK made this girl a god damn nerd? I probably hated this more than anything. The summary was false advertising, I want my god damn $3.99 back.

I feel like it's important to side note here about how homegirl bowled a perfect game while bowling and mentions she's done it a few times before and let me tell you, fuck all that bull shit. It's INCREDIBLY RARE to bowl perfect games and yet home girl has done it a few times? One of which happens to be YEARS after she quit bowling and while her new boyfriend and his friends watch? It's like a hockey defenseman scoring 4 goals in a game (IM LOOKING AT YOU TONI ALEO). For fucks sake can a romance author do some GOD DAMN RESEARCH on sports please?

I will say one positive thing about Leah though, just to make myself feel a little better. She did have a pretty awesome comeback to Brynn with her "cottage cheese thighs" comment, I laughed at that one.

-THE RELATIONSHIP, what the fuck was this? Matt was a super sweet guy and honestly, he deserved better than what he got with Leah the non-nerd. Their relationship was just so ODD. It was like, they went from talking online to suddenly having a random class together. And how fucking hypocritical of Leah to talk about how pathetic her roommate was for hooking up, yet she decides out of the blue that she's going to be a runner so she can see Matt one more time even though they now have a class together. The fuck was that? Also, she never runs again. NEVER. There was no DEVELOPMENT to the relationship. And I know that you could argue that this was a novella so there wasn't time, but I've read TONS of novellas with better relationship building. It's not an excuse. There was NO push or pull, no real climax, no BUILD to the relationship. They talked and then they dated. Then out of no where Leah makes a ridiculous assumption based on something that bitch Brynn says to her and instead of acting like a god damn adult and asking her FUCKING BOYFRIEND WHAT HAPPENED, she attacks said bitch and beats the shit of her like it's a positive great thing. The fuck is all that bullshit? It was all just so ridiculous. Why can't women in romance novels ever just TALK to their SO's? Why is there always so many assumptions? Ugh.

-THE STEREOTYPES, they were ridiculous. I mentioned the NON-stereotype with Leah being a nerd, but everything else was so HEAVY on the stereotypes it was borderline unreadable. It's like this author just watched a fuck ton of college movies and put every stereotype into this book. Sorority girls were sluts, jocks were stupid, all of the above. She calls her roommate Kayla a slut because she's a sorority girl and she likes to hook up. Well let me tell you something about college you immature little fuckface, everyone hooks up in college. Fucking. EVERYONE. And there is NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. As long as you are safe and it's consensual, go to town. You can do whatever the FUCK you want, including having a healthy sex life. Just because you can't get laid, doesn't mean others can't. And what makes it all so ridiculous is Kayla ends up being super nice and Leah still treats her like an asshole and never says thank you to Kayla for her help. It's all so fucking stupid. I thought we were past all of this bull shit? It's 2019, not 1957.

One last point, does any author ever do research on the fucking NFL draft? Almost every book I've read gets that shit wrong. It's not that hard of a concept. You don't just get signed by a team, you have to try out, be invited to the Combine, spend weeks trying to impress a team, then get selected, then work out with the team some more and THEN get signed. It's far more complicated than books make it out to be. It's so stupid. Also, the fucking Jets? If you wanted me to ACTUALLY believe that homie went to the Superbowl in the Epilogue, you wouldn't have put him on the god damn Jets.

This book does an incredible disservice to any and all YA/NA romance novels. I've read some wonderful High School/College romances with deep and well written characters, funny one liners, impressive story lines that flow beautifully, but this was NOT one of them. This is the result of a presumably middle aged house wife that thought she could make it in the romance novel business after reading a ton of them herself....sorry my dude, it really just didn't work for me here.

Hello Fluffy Goodness.

The story of Leah and Matt was just pure sweetness and goodness. Matt, the star football player meets Leah, the "nerdy girl" with a witty biting personality, at freshman orientation and likes her immediately. They continue to communicate through Facebook until one day he meets her in front of her dorm and walks her to class.

Things move quickly from that point. A hand on the back, kiss on the forehead, holding hands, and a first kiss all before Leah can even comprehend what's happening. She loves it but still finds it hard to believe that this gorgeous boy could have any real feelings for her.

But Matt, he's so cute, so sweet, it's so obvi that he's head over heels for this sweet shy girl. If you're looking for a sweet, cheesy (I mean this in all the good ways) read, then this book is a good fit. Not much drama, none of that angsty stuff, although there was one beautiful but sad scene that had me tearing up.

I crave him since me and I don't even know what it's like! I've never had a penis in my hoohah...

LORD OF THE RINGS! What a cool book.
No, not Lord of the rings the book, but WAITING ON FOREVER by Ashley Wilcox.
Dudes, I was hooked and laughed which is such a nice change lately. I love the geeky girl who finds love in a popular jock with a huge heart.
What Leah lacks in popularity she makes up with balls loads of spunk and I love her.
This is such a taylor swift song which is a huge compliment, I promise.
Leah and Matt are freakin' awesome and their journey was one of the most natural and best I've read in a while for love at first sight type scenarios.
I smiled and laughed and cheered for them. I freaked out when another nice boy shows up and I panicked when things weren't looking so good.
I kind of got a high school feel more than a college age characters, but it never stopped me falling for them or their story.
Ashely has done one hell of a good job with this novel, even wrapping it all up in a pretty bow for me.
Thank you for helping me escape today. 4.5 stars

I read this book in a couple of hours. I was hooked from the start. You have Leah, the smart nerdy girl and Matt, the football player. They meet at orientation for their college. They start out as Facebook friends then have French class together. Getting to see each other 3 days a week does wonders for their friendship. I loved the story. Leah was very sarcastic and that was funny to Matt. Matt was sweet and funny. There were a lot of steamy scenes between them. But their relationship was cute. Leah even got along with the other football players. Matt wasn't like the normal "hook up with everyone" jock. He had some what of a hard child hood. So he took his relationship with Leah serious. I liked that. Leah was a no non sense girl and didn't take shit from people. I liked that too. It was a great story about a college relationship.

I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. I loved it! It was a sweet, beautiful college romance, that was exactly what my soul needed ,at that moment. The fact that Leah was a little nerdy, and Matt was the hottest dude on campus, made me love it even more. This novel got me from the moment it said ,,Football". I even cried at the end,but I'm not gonna say at which part. And the end , was... AMAZING! 5 stars from me,no doubt! Read it, and you wont regret it!
Thank you

Just shy of 3 full stars

I thought this was a cute story, but it lacked something for it to be a richer, fuller story. It's too mature to be read by younger audience, but as an adult reading this, I felt it wasn't enough for older audience, like the writing caught this book in between groups. Again, it was cute. Loved that Matt was such a "girl" with his hearts and texting.

More reviews over at Sab The Book Eater

I was eager to read this book because I'm a sucker for the nerd-girl-gets-popular-jock plot, no matter how overused it is. I saw that it had a lot of great reviews so my expectations were set high. Unfortunately those were not met.

Thumbs down

The book was classified under the adult age group but I thought it was wrong on two levels: 1) the blurb sounded like a typical YA love story where popularity getting in the way of "love" and 2) they simply were not adults yet. I think the only reason why this was classified as an adult book was the sex (and non-sex) scenes.

It was kind of misleading to say that their popularity status would have a big impact on their relationship when it didn't. In fact it wasn't even an issue! Matt's friends liked Leah, the whole football team liked having her over at their place. Nobody really mistreated Leah except for this one chick but it wasn't like she went out of her way to make Leah's life a living hell. Just a few nasty comments here and there because Brynn's a bitch like that. But it was nothing. Leah's insecurities just got the best of her at times. Quite frankly, the idea of college kids making a fuss about the star of the football team dating a "nobody" doesn't sound right for a New Adult (or "adult") novel. It's so highschool. I don't know if it's just me but I don't think it still happens in college.

“Sorry, Sweetheart. I may be nerdy and quiet, but I don't let stupid people walk all over me.”

My biggest issue about this book was Leah herself - I simply did not like her. Whenever she was with Matt she's likable. She's so lovestruck that her bitch mode turns off. Yes, she's a bitch.

“It's still mindboggling and almost imaginary that Matthew Jacobs could love me - the artsy nerdy, no friends and loner - Leah Bennett.”

The only thing "nerdy" about Leah is the fact that she excels in academics but that just means she's smart. Her having no friends and her lack of experience with alcohol and boys is probably because of her attitude, not because she's a "nerd." EVEN NERDS AND ART FREAKS HAVE FRIENDS, LEAH. THEY HAVE FELLOW NERDS AND ART FREAKS TO BE NERDY AND ARTSY WITH. She's always overly snarky and always judgmental of everyone. She called all the pretty, perky girls Barbies because they were all beauty and no brains. At one point she even classified herself as "one of those dumb girls" because she had a big giddy grin while reading Matt's text. WHAT? NO, SHUT UP. IT'S OKAY TO BE GOOFY AND HAPPY WHEN YOU'RE IN LOVE. It especially annoyed me when this girl in her class eagerly asked her if she was dating The Matthew Jacobs and she reacted so negatively thinking how much she hates "annoying girls." Girl get a grip! She was just asking. No need to get all defensive. In fact, if I were her I'd relish it. Who cares if they hate me because I'm dating the football star? Matthew Jacobs is in love with you, Leah. Think about it.

Another thing I wasn't so hot about was the story's pacing. Halfway through the book I didn't know where the story was going. Perhaps it was the author's intention to simply write a love story, I don't know, but for the most part I just didn't get it. When the story picked up though I felt that it was too late.

The conflict? Very annoying. It only made me hate Leah even more. Matt never gave her a reason to doubt his loyalty. The way Leah handled everything just made me hate her even more.

Matt's back story, nope, too late. Although I appreciate finally knowing more about Matt, I felt that it came a little too late. It would've been nice getting a peek at his life little by little. Not in one chunk, towards the end. And don't even get me started on the happily ever after. It was nice and I loved it (I did!!!) but it was all crammed.

Thumbs up

The only thing that I liked about this book was Matt. He's incredibly sweet and thoughtful. Sometimes it felt like he was the chick in the relationship. I also like how their relationship started. It happened without them talking it through - which was fine. It wasn't insta love or anything. It was just natural, I guess. Matt made everything easy and meaningful.

Overall

This book was okay. There were things that made me smile but since it's written in Leah's POV, there were more things that made me unhappy so I couldn't really bring myself to like it fully. It had a potential but Leah's attitude really got in the way.

So I received an arc for "Waiting On Forever" from Ashley Wilcox for an open, honest review. So here goes.
“Waiting on Forever” is based on the story of college students Leah Bennett and Matt Jacobs. Two very different people from two very different worlds. Leah is a loner. She doesn’t really have friends and her life revolves around study and work. No partying, no booze and definitely no boyfriends. Yup that’s her in a nutshell. Matt Jacobs is the polar opposite: he’s a college jock, plays on the football team and lives in a frat house where life is all about having a good time!!!!
When they meet for the first time, there seems to be an immediate connection between them, one that Matt seems to want to explore but one that Leah wants to run from.

She sees herself as different and she knows she doesn’t fit in. This doesn’t bother Matt in the least and he’s like a dog with a bone. He’s relentless and before we know it, they are spending more and more time together (as friends of course!!!! Lol)

Within an hour, Matt and I have gone from being online friends, to having classes together three times a week, to now being study partners. My head is in overdrive and my heart is close to exploding, but I need to get a hold on myself.

The more time they spend together, the closer they become but Leah is still insistent there will be nothing more than friendship between them, after all, boys like Matt don’t go for girls like her:

Matt and I can never be a couple and our relationship can never be more than friends. He’s a popular jock that goes for popular girls and he is totally out of my league.

Well how wrong can one girl be because Matt has Leah in his sights and he is not giving up. Before we know it, they have become a couple (Leah is completely oblivious to this fact until someone sheds some light and tells her). lol

Although Leah was a nerd and a loner, I loved the fact that she wasn't a push over. She was able to stand up for herself when people tried to belittle her and even got into a fight over it!!!!

Sorry, sweetheart. I may be nerdy and quiet, but I don't let stupid people walk over me.

Yup, feisty when she needed to be. She wasn't portrayed as clean cut either and some of the personal dialogue we saw from her definitely incorporated a few choice words:
Holy f******* mother Theresa? Did he did not just say that me
bowling a perfect game is a turn on!

Hilarious!!! Thank you Ashley Wilcox for not making her a stereotypical nerd!!!
However one aspect of Leah’s character dis leave me feeling conflicted was her urgency to move their physical relationship forward. I knew Leah's experience with the male population was limited (well actually none existent), but she seemed so keen to progress the sexual side of things. Losing her virginity didn’t seem like something her character would want to do in a hurry yet time and time again, she tried to rush it, even trying to push Matt into it. For me it just didn’t fit.
In terms of Matt, I was a little torn with his character. Overall he was cute, at times even adorable and I found myself saying things like “OMG that is sooo sweet”. Don’t get me wrong, I loved all the gestures he made to ensure Leah was happy, comfortable, safe and protected. However, sometimes, I just felt he went a little overboard with the “cheese”:

“I wish I could carry you around in my pocket all day so I don’t have to see that frown when I leave”.

See, maybe just a little too much at times.
Although the book was mainly written from Leah’s perspective, it was lovely to see Matt’s point of view in the prologue and epilogue and my heart did swell a little when I read where their lives had taken them five years into the future.
Despite the book being quite short, it was still well written and on the whole it flowed well. If you’re looking for a simple love story with no major complications, then this book is for you. This is a sweet story about “first love” that does have a couple of surprises but you won’t get a cliff hanger and there are no major twists or turns that will leave your heart shattered in a million pieces. An enjoyable read overall.
I rated this book 3 Hearts.

"I've been fallin' since day one."

Waiting on Forever just didn't work for me. I hate to type sentences like that, but unfortunately sometimes I have no choice. This was a quick light read, something others would call fluff. I started out liking it, but somewhere along the line, I just couldn't stay connected. I found it very hard to connect with the heroine. Leah was supposed to be "nerdy," the girl the "jock" fell for. I was looking forward to the sweet shy girl whose focus was on her books, but in all honesty for me she came off as a bitch 90% of the time. I liked her spunky take no crap attitude at first, but after a while it just grated on my nerves and I truly didn't understand it. I wanted her to be a bit more softer sometimes, not always on the defense. I know she had her reasons for hating the "it" girls, but the descriptions and thoughts became overwhelming and it pulled my focus from the actual story on different occasions. It seemed she judged a lot and lumped them all into one stereotype without actually giving them a chance as an individual person.

"And Leah?"
"Yeah?'
"You're the only girl that I've ever allowed in my bedroom, so don't feel grossed out about sitting on my bed."

Matthew Jacobs, star football player. Now Matthew I loved, absolutely adored him. He is the reason this book gets 3 stars. Matt was such a sweetheart. His character was written perfectly for this book. Nothing was forced with him. Matt took thing slow, he didn't rush, and you could tell he truly adored Leah. His attention was always on her, and he never gave her reason to doubt him. What you see is what you get with him.

Which is where my biggest issue comes in. The big dramatic incident. For me it just didn't fit the story, I honestly couldn't wrap my head around it. Matt never ever gave Leah reason to doubt him, like ever! I mean this man did everything slow, and yeah he had a past before her but nothing that should of ever made her doubt his sincerity and love. I seriously sat there shaking my head, solidifying my thoughts on the heroine being a major bitch. Again it all comes back to Leah. The thing is for me, the heroine will either make or break the story. I judge them on a different scale then the heroes and unfortunately I judge them with more scrutiny. I think if the author had left that part out, and just went with the twist at the end of the story it would have been a better read.

"Oh, there's no competition here. He's going to shit his pants when he sees my skills."
"You've got skills huh?" Matt says with a flirtatious smile.
"Ones I don't think you'd be able to handle." I whisper to him.

I'm not saying there weren't good parts to this story, because there were. I loved when Matt and Leah were together and she dropped her bitchiness. Their flirting was wicked fun. When Leah showed her softer side and enjoyed herself in the moment, she made a great heroine. Also I loved the plot line the author went with in the beginning. Neither asked each other out, their relationship just kind of grew and before you knew it they were "together." Matt was perfect in the way he glided them to that point. Nothing was over dramatic it just flowed. Their relationship felt believable, until the big incident.

I also enjoyed the bit of a twist at the end. It gave the little bit of drama this book and couple needed to show they were more than fluff. It added an element of emotion to them. As I said earlier I think the author could have expanded on this a bit and got rid of the other. Ashley also summed it up with a fun ending. This was my first read by this author, and although the book didn't work for me, I would definitely give her another try.
