“I mean they don't seem able to love us just the way we are. They don't seem able to love us unless they can keep changing us a little bit. They love their reasons for loving us almost as much as they love us, and most of the time more.”
Absolutely blown away by this one. wow.
it started off a little funny, with Teddys parents yelling his head off, but then he goes down to the pool and begins to talk with this older man named Bob, and the story really goes off.
Teddy, this little boy genius, starts to talk about all these big religious ideas, particularly rooted in Buddhist ideas. I don't really have much to say here, but the ideas were interesting, even if they sounded a little funny coming out of this little boys month
and then that ending, wow. perfectly bookends nine stories and Bananafish. Salinger's stories rarely end like this but I absolutely love when they do. I also like how its still left vaguely ambiguous.
this story, much like Franny and Zooey, has a lot of amazing ideas, and you will still be thinking about it long after you read it.
