Fair Trade

Rate this book
"When you're at the top, the only way to go is down."

Corporate VP Joanna Barnes is condescending, domineering and micromanaging. She belittles and insults the workers beneath her. In other words, she's a bitch.

Her behavior at her industry's trade show is no different. Her poor intern, Steve, has been on the receiving end of her verbal abuse all day. But, when the two of them get behind closed doors in the hotel room... it will be Steve's turn to call the shots, as he literally brings the curvy executive to her knees...

In all the BDSM books, there is always a reference to the high powered individual playing the sub/slave role. This is my first deeper look into this dynamic. The description led me to believe that the intern was getting his revenge. But he was giving her what she needed. The story is actually told from the VP's point of view. You watch as the stress of her job, marriage, kids all fades away, finally allowing her to lose herself in the moment. She knows that she is a hard boss, but doesn't expect anything less of herself--thus the pleasure at having her own insults hurled back in her face. She relives the same humiliation she heaps upon others as a catharsis. I am curious to know more about their dynamic, to see how it began and how Steve learned to give her what she needed since his real life character didn't seem that assertive.

I was delighted recently to see Dylan describe one of his books (I'm not sure it was this or another one) as "not for everyone," or whatever words to that effect that he used. I love how Dylan has a definite understanding of his audience and what they want. Dylan did a masterful job of building his setting and the tone of this story. I particularly enjoyed how Steve repeatedly used Joanna’s "stock phrases" to humiliate her further. The touch of sex and humiliation at the beginning was a brilliant foreshadowing as we got to see Joanna and Steve at the trade show. I loved how he brought things to an end- the most unexpected denouement.

Dylan is a writer that knows what it takes to bring his reader's to their knees. The way he describes he hot steamy scenes just begs for a glass of wine and a cold shower. I have read almost everyone of his works of art and with each one I have grown to see the little tinges of humor and need in each character. When a high profile female that has a demanding job is able to give up power what better place than in the bedroom? The boss does not necessarily always want to be the boss and this book is an amazing look into the mindset of both roles of submissive and dominant. Thank you for allowing me to read this and write about so that other reader's can discover this book.

This is my second excursion into the world of Dylan Cross. In "A Letter of Appreciation," I discovered a subtle strain of humor mixed in with the erotic endeavors and was happy to discover that "Fair Trade" provided this same cocktail. Sex should be fun and that's what we get.

Here we find management bully Joanna Barnes at a Trade Fair with her young intern, Steve, whom she insults, screams at and sends back to the hotel threatening to give him the sack. We feel sorry for Steve until the day's work is done and we suddenly learn that as the shadows fall their roles are reversed. He's dominant, in every way, and she becomes a slave to his desires - as well as her own, a fair trade, indeed. There are some neat twists and Cross maintains the sexual tension, saving a good thorough spanking until Joanna needs it most.

Bitch boss Joanna is given back what she has been dishing out to poor Steve all day. The book made me hate her so much that I didnt mind how he treated her. lol I have found another author to keep an eye on.

I normally love erotic novels and this is my first Dylan Cross book. I didn't like the degradation. It's not my thing but to each their own. Now, the voyeurism I did enjoy. I wish there would have been more sex.

Wonderfully written short erotic read with well developed and complex characters for this short romp in a BDSM type of relationship between a VP and her young intern. The warnings for this book are legitimate for this book as there is alot of degrading name calling, even if the majority of it is done by the female lead in refering to herself. But it is all part of the role play, part of the game. The storyline was a very interesting concept, with the roles reversed from what I have read before. In this story we find the VP is a married with children, curvy female who does have issues with her body image. Joanna is one hardnosed bitch when it come to work and Steve is her young intern that just can't seem to do anything right in her eyes and she makes sure she lets him know it, and publicly. But in private, the tables are turned and Steve is the one in command and he uses every debasing term that she uses towards her subordinates in his game of humiliation before he gives her what they both want in the end. The sex scenes are extremely well written and descriptive, I only wish there had been more.

This is a short and extremely enjoyable read and I recommend it to anyone who is into this genre.
