When Marc d’Alessio first rescued the curvaceous and spirited Italian Angelina Giardano at the Masters at Arms Club, he never expected her to turn his safe, controlled life upside down and pull at his long-broken heartstrings. Months later, the intense fire of their attraction still rages, but something holds him back from committing to her completely. Worse, secrets and memories from his past join forces to further complicate his relationships with family, friends, and his beautiful angel.
Angelina cannot give all of herself to someone who hides himself from her. She loves Marc, the BDSM world he brought her into, and the way their bodies respond to one another, but she needs more. Though she destroyed the wolf mask he once wore, only he can remove the mask he dons daily to hide his emotions. In a desperate attempt to break through his defences and reclaim her connection to the man she loves, she attempts a full frontal assault that sends him into a fast retreat, leaving her nobody’s angel once again.
Marc finds that running to the mountains no longer gives him solace but instead leaves him empty and alone. Angelina is the one woman worth the risk of opening his heart. Will he risk everything to become the man she deserves and the man he wants to be?

I like this series, but this one was a little over done. I really feel that the story really did not need 588 pages to tell this one. I understand Marc had growing up issues and that is what made him run from everything. But, we get about two hundred pages of Marc hashing the same things over and over. And going back through his childhood. It was really boring. I skipped five chapters because of the boredom. Also, the last two chapters were of Marc rehashing his childhood and that was boring.
This is how I feel about the story not the Author, so don't take my comment the wrong way. There were good and bad telling of the story but, I had to give the story three stars. That is just my opinion.
A bit disappointed in this book. I've loved the series so far, but this book just didn't hook me. It definitely wrapped something's up, but I felt it was a bit long winded.
This is not a stand alone book. You must read the previous books in the series to have any sort of understanding of what is going on.
This may be more of a comment than a review. I think the author is trying to write a series that is all things for all readers. This effort was completely overdone for what Marc was going through. It was so convoluted at times with such a big lead up, that when the "secret" came out I wasn't really sure if that was it.
I am not in the lifestyle. I read about it only. There seemed to be a whole lot of wrong with the RACK scene. I find it very hard understand that Adam would take Marc where he did, besides the fact that he is not a psychiatrist or a psycologist. Yes, I understand this is fiction but it appears that the author has investigated many aspects of the lifestyle, has interviewed and consulted with Dom's on these scenes and they thought this was ok? This worries me and is sending me a message that a Dom may be able to fix people with some serious problems using BDSM and mindfucks. Apparently you just have to know the right Dom or have served with them in the military.
I will be leaving this series. The next one up is about a girl that can't be in a room with men because of an alluded to gang rape. BDSM to the rescue!!
Sorry Kally, you have gone somewhere I don't want to be. Too many damaged souls to save. Truly, best of luck on your journey.
There was way too much time between book 4 and book 5 in this Series. I would like to say first off this has always been my favorite series until now. I waited so long for this book to be released. I think I gave it to much of a build up in my head.
This story about Marc and Angelina needed to be told. His journey of self awareness is interesting and long. It's just not the story I expected about these two. It was however an interesting journey. I thought in a way it took all of Marc's manliness away. Even when it made him a stronger man. I know that sounds odd but you have to read the story and see what you think.
I understand and appreciate hearing and catching up with other characters in a series but I didn't like the way these other characters were added in. There are full chapters of some of the other characters. Ok maybe not full chapters but it seemed that way. And why did someone else's wedding take up so much coverage and time. Jeezzz it was like being there, I didn't think it would ever get over with.
You know I don't like to write bad reviews but I just had to be honest about this book. I was really disappointed. I hope I don't make any Kallypso Masters fans angry because I'm a fan of hers too. I just thought this would be an over the top great book. She said she had a lot of input from outside sources for this one. Maybe she should just stick to the way she has always done it before. Fans don't know how to write books. That's why we are fans and not writers.
Let me begin by saying I have really enjoyed this series up until this book. I haven't finished it, and honestly don't think I will. I was so confused about the main characters Marc and Angelina. Their personalities would change in .001 seconds. One would be loving or understanding one minute and not even 2 words later the character went the exact opposite. While reading 1chapter the ending was cut off, I still don't know what happened. Next issue I had was the timeline. Didn't Marisol help Angelina bake Damian's birthday cake? But it was never mentioned in Somebody's Angel. Why didn't Adam and Karla share their exciting news, instead they have kept it a secret up to where I have read. We have waited so long for this book to come out and it was a major let down. Clearly I am very disappointed.
So tired of stories with a D/s relationship where there is no trust. Even working on trust in D/s is so stupid and they should be doing scenes, which they basically were doing, not having an actual relationship. And ugh with Adam not wanting to touch Karla. This book just irked me in every single way. Don't know if I care to read anymore because of this one, and I had loved the others. 1 1/2 stars because I'm feeling generous.
4.25 stars. I've been waiting for a long time to read this book and it's been on the back burner for months. Somebody's Angel was well worth the wait. I fell in love with Marc even more. I actually loved this even more than Nobody's Angel because it seemed more real. I loved learning more about Marc and his pain and the depths both Angelina and Marc would go through for one another. I am so happy Marc and Angelina had gotten their happily ever after.
I truly enjoy this series. It brings a realism to the story. We are not perfect and neither are these characters. While submissive sexually, Angelina is a strong woman, capable of being independent until she chooses to relinquish herself to Marc.
I enjoy this series, but this book totally missed the mark for me. Both Marc and Angelina were way too whiny for me and the constant reiteration of their internal dialogue was annoyingly repetitive. I just didn't buy it.
I love this series so much - and I have to say that I think that this book is definitely my favorite in this series. Marc and Angelina were so amazing together, and my heart broke so many times as their relationship faced so many bumps and blows, that I wasn't sure they could ever overcome. Trust issues between both of them, along with memories of Marc's childhood seemed to bombard them from all sides. Marc really proved himself by what he did to fight his demons - and they both proved to each other, that they were always both there for each other all along.
But this story wasn't all about them - we got to enjoy Karla and Adams relationship and pregnancy some more, along with Damian, Savi and Marisol, Grant also had her appearance - and lets not forget Luke and Cassie. I loved being able to delve into their lives again during this book. Let me just say - that I cannot wait until the next book and we finally find out more about Cassie and Luke - please hurry and get that one out soon Ms. Masters!!
Unbelievable, emotional, heartbreaking, heartwarming … Somebody’s Angel was an emotional roller-coaster that had me stunned, surprised, crying and smiling. Marc needs to face his past and Angelina has to have the patience and understanding of a saint to see him through the toughest part of his life. Love has conquered them but trust may ruin them.
We all know about Marc and Angelina from Nobody’s Angel. Even though they had their own book, there was no HEA for them. There were a lot of issues that needed to be faced – Melissa, Marc’s past and Angelina’s need for trust. I know that a lot of fans were disappointed that #5 of the Rescue Me series was not Luke and Cassie and didn’t understand why these issues could not have been resolved in their story but, after reading Somebody’s Angel, I, for one, get the point. There was no way to bring Marc’s sordid history to the forefront without facing it head-on … giving them the HEA that they both wanted and deserved. Marc’s flash-backs to his youth, to his teen-age years … his unresolved feeling over losing Gino … all added up to his trust issues with woman. When he brings himself to Adam after losing Angelina for the third time, he commits to a torture that will have you crying, begging for his mercy and praying for it to end. A mind-fuck beyond all mind-fucks and kudos to Adam for having the guts to carry it out.
There were times that Angelina totally disappointed me. Loving Marc as she does, she cannot give up on the trust issues that she is having. I understand the reason, totally agree with her point of view but I don’t know if I would just keep walking out on him. He has issues with losing people that he loves and she keeps walking away. Melissa was no help in this department at all. But, thanks to her, all was finally revealed which left her with no stronghold over the d’Alessio family. Bye-bye Melissa! Then, she kept harping on the damn wolf mask which did end up being an important issue and all is revealed as to why he wore that particular mask. She redeemed herself totally and completely when she realized what he went through to be able to open himself up to her.
Finally, she is standing by her man – through thick and thin and totally earned my love and respect. And Adam – geez – give the woman what she wants! How many times does the doctor have to tell you that it’s okay? If I was Karla I would have given him one of the head-slaps that he was known for. Get in the game, Adam, your woman needs you!
As in all the past books, Kally brought us up to date on all of our Masters. We celebrated with Damian and Savannah, we know Luke is still stuck on the mountain with Cassie and the whole d’Alessio clan is represented throughout the book. Guest appearances by Gunner, Patrick and Grant. I’m a little bit intrigued by Gunner and hope that Kally graces us with a book about the Sadist.
But all in all, even though Somebody’s Angel was a bit different from the rest of the series, not as much sexual BDSM as in the past, I loved it. I was one of Marc’s first fans (maybe because of my Italian heritage) but there was always something about him that drew on my heartstrings. I always knew that he would be a complicated, loving man and hoped that he would realize all that he had in front on him.
Congratulazioni, Kallypso, in una bella, ben scritto, libro emozionale che mi ha lasciato senza parole e piangere! (Congratulations, Kallypso, on a beautiful, well-written, emotional book that left me speechless and crying!)
I really liked the previous books of this series and the beginning of this one too. But as soon as they travelled to Italy it seemed the author's timelines did not make any sense. At first I was distracted by their flight from Denver to Milano, that time schedule did not seem right. Then the visit with Mrs Milanesi: She was Natalia's school friend thus the same age (~66).As long as she was the boy's babysitter she had no children of her own. So since Marc and his family emigrated to the USA - 23 years ago - she gave birth to two daughters and had a grandchild. Assuming that the oldest daughter is 22 years old a grandchild may be 4 or 5 years, but not at least 12 years as being a fan of a rock group suggests. While reading on I was always mulling over these problems that did not add up and therefore destroyed my pleasure in reading this. I also could not grasp why Natalia endured the blackmail after Gino's death, Marc was her son so he could not be offended.
I was slightly disappointed....Sorry! I absolutely love Kallypso's books but this just was slightly off....The opening felt like it should be attached to the previous book and not as a stand alone and I wished I'd read them together to really get into the mood and feel of the scenes quicker. It took me a while to settle into this story and remember what had gone before and the list of names at the beginning scared me so I bookmarked them just in case I got lost but didn't (luckily)!
As for the story I just wasn't as riveted and felt that some of the BDSM scenes were thrown together or came across as ridiculous (Savi's and a couple of others) - what would've made this story better would've been if Marc had decided not to be a dom at the end after what he'd been through and how he became a dom as a young man....a twist would've made this book deeper as the story was slightly thin. Even the main story (trying not to give anything away) just didn't hold my interest throughout.
Marc and Angelina's speech needed a bit of work and at times I felt they were just not interesting. And throwing in a brief storyline with Cassie just felt odd as there was no contact with Luke and her from a point onwards...I know this was so the next book could be about that time but still it felt odd and jarred - there was a throwaway line to explain that they had been heard from but they were missing from a wedding or so it seemed and that just didn't come across properly.
I hated the bit about Savi....her book was so powerful that this little bit just felt thin...no build up apart from a phone call, then almost no detail, almost no detail about what happened next and no tying up of what happened to Damian's leg etc, etc etc. Just a bit of a storyline not the the usual depth Kally would go to.
Some of these books have really left me reeling and thinking about them for weeks afterwards but not this one.
When we started this journey we met 3 men who were all so different. Adam who was grieving so deeply for his wife and was ready to give up on life and his career in the military, Damian who met his soul mate but lost her all in the same night, and Marc who suffered from great guilt over the death of his brother Gino. Adam went to lead these men in battle that left them all with both physical and emotional scars to add to the ones they already brought into war.
In each of their stories Kally goes into such depth in detail of the BDSM lifestyle that brings them all together after the military, PTSD, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and amputation just to name a few. Before finally getting each story we thought we knew what demons haunted each of these men and women but find out we hadn’t even scratched the surface.
That was definitely the case with Marc d’Alessio. This is Marc’s second story. The first introduced us to Marc and who was to become his woman, Angelina Giardano. But Marc still held secrets at the end of the first book both from Angelina and himself. The ones he was holding from himself he didn’t even subconsciously know about. This book is about the journey he goes on in the discovery about his childhood and the past that he has blocked out or forgotten. Angelina has always known Marc was holding things back and this prevented their relationship from moving out of the limbo state they are in. She is still vulnerable when it comes to him but when his journey to discover past secrets takes him down many paths she decides she is going to stand by her man even when at one point he walks away from her.
This book gives us the closure Marc finally needed with Gino and makes it possible for Marc and Angelina to finally start journey of happily ever after.
This book was in desperate need of an editor! The first half was so unnecessarily repetitive it could easily have been cut down a third or more and would have greatly improved the book. Overall this book really didn't add anything of value to the saga and was a struggle to get through. A pity since I had really enjoyed the characters and the writing up to now and was raving about the books to a friend. Feel a tad bad about that now and definitely clarified my opinion of the saga, and this book in particular.
In a nutshell, despite considering Angelina the love of his life, Marc still keeps much of himself emotionally distant from her. Angelina won't settle for less than a true partnership and walks out, prompting Marc to finally do some soul searching (after much whining and running away to the mountains) to figure out why he always runs before the relationship gets too hot and heavy -- simply put, he has abandonment issues relating to childhood trauma, so his pattern is to leave before he can be left.
The point at which Marc finally acknowledges he has some serious work to do in order to uncover the past events he's blocked all his life in order to win back the girl is when this book actually becomes interesting and worth reading. Too bad I had to plow through several hundred boring pages to get there.
I am a HUGE fan of this series and author Kallypso Masters. This author sure knows how to get her readers "hooked" on these fascinating and complex characters. I could not stop reading Somebody's Angel as the story progressed and I was dying to find out what was haunting Marc and keeping him from committing to Angelina. I liked that Angelina stood up for herself and gave Marc that push to come to terms with his past and his well-guarded emotions. We finally got to see the man behind the wolf mask and it was riveting as the layers unveiled. I loved everything about this book and now I'm anxiously anticipating Luke and Cassie's story.
I was hovering between 4 and 5 stars about halfway through this book, and in the end was hovering between 3.5 and 4 stars. I just felt it was too wordy between Marc and Angelina in the last chapters, and also I was daydreaming through a few other chapters, wanting to get to the finish line. It was a good story, and incorporated all the Masters at Arms, but I just felt some of the conversations were to formal.
All this book needs to be 5 star to me is a better editor!!!
The author is horribly verbose and very repetitive. Even her book intros are long winded. I spoke with her about it on Facebook and realize that she really can't help herself that's just how she thinks. It seems she is as stuck in her own head as her characters.
Even if a character thinks one thought 10 times a day for a month that does not mean I want to read about it 300 times!!!!! This book more than any other suffered from the repeated rants of the female... I know we women do this but it does not mean we want to read another woman doing it!! its annoying as hell!!! Discussing this with the author on Facebook .... She wasn't getting it! I read reviews/ comments where people stopped reading the book for this reason. Such a pity... She is a really great storyteller. Now I'm ranting because by book 4 it gets overwhelming!
I really hope she finds a good editor she can work with to take her books to the next level. She has such wonderful ideas and is able to tap into and convey the emotional pains of her characters so well that it would be a pity for her to remain a mediocre author.
On the plus side it is realistic for a couple to have challenges after the HEA of the initial love story. I appreciate the author taking us on this journey but i swear a more aggressive editor and this would have been a smoother ride. The scene where they went beyond safe sane and consensual because He was desperate to overcome his inhibitions was awesome!! Edge of your seat good!!
In most of the other books i forgave the repetitions and still gave 5 stars for the lovely story and realistic characters... but this one was unforgivable in its magnitude so it lost a star.
Starting this book so soon after reading “Nobody’s Perfect” probably wasn’t the best idea especially as “Nobody’s Perfect” had left me completely and totally emotionally drained and wrung out by all of the traumas faced by Damian and Savi but I need not have worried. Marc’s story developed into something really special and worthwhile that by the end I felt like I’d been riding yet another emotional rollercoaster.
The previous books hinted at cracks opening up in Marc and Angelina’s relationship and those cracks are cruelly exposed in this book.
Marc’s background is brought into question in this book as he struggles to find out who he really is after Melissa’s evil attempt to discredit his childhood memories. As a result Marc distances himself from Angelina and breaks Angelina’s heart in doing so. She believes their relationship is over but Marc is still determined to find a way back to both Angelina and his old self.
Marc realises that desperate measures are needed and turns to Adam for his help. Having convinced Adam to support his mission, Marc realises that the only way to come through this is to have Adam take him down an extremely painful and traumatic path in an attempt to find out who he is and to find his lost childhood memories.
This story is hard to read. Seeing this once proud and strong man reduced to a broken mess just to be able to come back stronger is hard to comprehend. Kallypso Masters has produced some heartfelt and memorable storylines in this series and each one has been as good as the last. For me though Luke’s story with Cassie is what I’ve been waiting for.
3 Stars... Disappointing compared to previous books in the series.
First let me say that I absolutely adore this series and I love Angie and Marc almost as much as I love Damian and Savi. So I was excited, if not a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, to move onto book 4. After the first book, I can definitely understand why the author felt the need to further explore Marc's background since he didn't really seem to develop as a character in the first book, at least not in the way the other doms did.
As much as I loved Marc, this book was just too Marc-centric for me. Romance and suspense were both minimal if not non-existent entirely. It was more drama and mental anguish and we basically spent 400 pages stuck in Marc's messed-up head, going round in circles. For me, these emotional problems have worked in previous books because they were well-integrated with other themes, but this book just seemed to focus on Marc's problems and nothing else. There was just far too much angst with nothing to balance it out. I couldn't help but feel that the author was aware of this problem too because we kept getting random, isolated chapters of other scenes in somebody else's point of view - e.g. Karla and Adam's night in the honeymoon suite, Karla and Adam's sonogram, Cassie and Luke after his accident. Some of those were a bit odd because while I understand they helped us to keep in touch with other characters, they didn't advance the story and felt a bit detached - most didn't even feature or influence Marc as a character.
Finally, on a side note, since when does an ultrasound scan endanger the foetus?
Originally I was going to rate this book a three because quite frankly I didn't see the need for Marc and Angelina to have a whole other book to keep discussing Marc's crazy ass erratic behavior. Then my rating bumped down to a two because, while I adored Angelina's character in Nobody's Angel, her character in this book left much to be desired. She reminded me of Karla's character, a crying, whiny, needy child...she was super annoying...WTH!
Then something amazing happened, the story totally changed and while it still focused on crazy ass Marc it remained devoted to him remembering his past and not his relationship with crybaby Angelina. What bumped my rating to a four is the process used by the Doms Adam, Damian and Grant to crack open Marc's memories. While extreme, so very interesting because there's absolutely nothing sexual about it. (So as to not spoil it for future readers, I will not write the methods used)
But then my rating went back down to a three because I feel that Ms. Masters screwed the pooch big time by adding so much useless information on all of the other couples when the book was supposed to be about Marc and Angelina. It would have been cool if she gave us a quick update on the other couples, but to delve so deeply into their stories again...its too much! I had skip through most of it.
Honestly I think this series could have continued quite nicely without this book, it wasn't necessary at all and I hope she's done rehashing Marc's past when Luke and Cassie's book comes out. Let's keep moving forward people...
Linger (v): to stay somewhere beyond the usual or expected time; to continue to exist as time passes; to remain alive while becoming weaker.
I use this definition for this story because it explains what this book has done, for me. It has lingered for the past four days as I forced myself to spend time with my family during the holidays (and yes, force, is the right word as I could have curled up and finished it in a matter of hours). It has continued to exist even after finishing it earlier in the day. And although I have not been finished with it long enough for it to be alive while becoming weaker, this story will resonate with me for a very long time.
I found myself sobbing as the story opened each petal of each couple shared parts of their stories. I cried along with Marc & Angelina as they both cried. I giggled each and every time Marc hit a ticklish spot on Angelina. I *gasped* when, yet again, tragedy, turmoil and heartbreak struck, again and again in their small community of Doms and submissives.
KM has assaulted not only my senses, she's tied me up and made me be patient as she unwound this story of Marc & Angelina for all of us to understand more about them. This story has led me down the path of this author becoming one of my all-time-favorites from here until forever.
Just finished one of the best books I have ever read. Kallypso Masters you are a genius. Somebody's Angel book 5 in the Rescue Me Series is absolutely brilliant. If you haven't read the previous 4 books, then please ensure you do before reading this one. They need to be read in order. Marc and Angelina's journey is nothing short of miraculous. I felt so many emotions reading this book. I laughed, I cried, I screamed, I worried, I shook my head in amazement. I was torn by the obvious division between Marc and Angelina and the struggles that seem insurmountable. As always Kallypso Masters gave an update on all of the main characters in the series. One of the things I love about this series, you are always updated on what is going on in their loves. I am in awe of your talent Kallypso Masters and I thank you for the roller-coaster journey you led me on. I cannot wait until your next book. I highly recommend this book and this wonderfully talented author. Be aware there are some rather intense BDSM scenes in this book, dar mor extreme than in any of the previous books.
