At 18, Casey left his pack. Two years later, to save his friend, he needs back in. But wolf shifters aren't that forgiving, and Mason, the pack Alpha, took Casey's departure very, very personally.
Not much to say here but that I write male slash, and I like it :P. I thank everyone who takes the time to read my stuff and even comment or rate it. https://www.fictionpress.com/u/806466...
3.5 stars Loved the first half of the story more than the rest. Mason and Casey are at odds most of the time as Casey fights his Alpha every chance he gets. The pull to submit is strong, there's a deeper connection here, Mason knows whats going on, Casey is oblivious, scared or in denial. So it was certainly going to be 4 stars from me, until overbearing Mason ramped it up, he's too controlling, aggressive biting and over the top possessiveness, sort of spoiled my enjoyment. Kitty and the big bad Wolf have some rough and tumble times ahead. You know what I loved the most, the tenderness, Casey purring and Mason stroking his kitty it was sweet and comforting. I shouldn't complain too much as its free and if the macho alpha male doesn't bother you, this is a perfect shifter romance.
Casey, an orphan jaguar shifter, struggles to find his place in a wolf pack, along with his feelings for the pack's Alpha, Mason. When he meets Shelby, another jaguar shifter, he seizes the opportunity to not only find out about his parents, but to escape his problems with Mason. It is only when Shelby suddenly disappears two years later, he is forced to return to Mason and the pack, and finally face the truth of what he is feeling.
I liked this relatively short story (not quite novel-length at 54K words), and the world building was interesting, one I think would be worth expanding upon. As is often the case with online fiction, there are a few typos and odd word usages, but the bones of the story, despite a few areas where things are perhaps under-explored/explained, is definitely worth reading.
A thoroughly charming and fun shifter-love tale. I haven't read a shifter book in a long while because they've become so formulaic, but this book reminded me of why shifter stories sometimes appeal to me. Casey is an orphaned cat-shifter who first came across Mason when he was 12 and Mason was 17. Mason, an alpha wolf, is leading a young pack after all their parents were killed by hunters. He promptly claims Casey and proceeds to bring Casey up. But it's not easy for a sole cat shifter in a pack of wolves, and also not easy living with a very domineering alpha wolf. By the time he's 18, Casey is feeling antsy, and then he has an encounter with another shifter like him, and she knew about his parents..
I enjoyed this story a lot, mostly because it was so clear to the reader (even if Casey is completely oblivious) that Mason wanted Casey from the beginning, that he was patiently waiting and waiting and waiting for Casey to grow up and return his interest, and just when he's about ready to make a move on Casey, Casey disappears on him. When Casey tries to return to the pack years later, he had to face up to admitting what he wants out of life, while dealing with an even more possessive Mason
This is better written than most of the shifter books I paid money for.
Pack Dynamics has everything I love in M/M romance:
• A friends to lovers story • Shifters, my favorite pairing: cats and dogs • Possessive hero who’s crazy in love with the MC; everybody can see it but the other MC • Hero takes care of the MC and waits his chance to be noticed, accepted, loved • Some painful separation that makes the reunion so much more emotional • In denial MC who loves our hero so much but he’s afraid to acknowledge it and fights it • Such a sweet relationship, so cute and tender but also passionate.
Some might no be completely in love with our dominant alpha Mason, but I personally loved him. He is exactly what I look for in a shifter alpha character and there’s no doubt that he would do anything to make Casey happy. The fact that we get to meet both Mason and Casey at a young age and get to see their relationship develop makes this read incredibly great. Because I was completely sold on the fact that they were made for each other.
Of course this book is not perfect. It’s a free online read, has some editing issues, although nothing major. The world portrayed there is not developed to its full potential. But I was so in love with both Mason and Casey that I wasn’t at all bothered by this.
If you like shifter stories, you’ll love this.
Also, one of my favorite PNR romance couples out there is Cat and Bones. If you loved them, you’ll love Mason and Casey also. Their relationship reminded me so much of the former.
An okay shifter romance read about Casey, a jaguar shifter who is taken in when he’s young by a pack of wolf shifters and their very possessive alpha Mason. When he’s 18, Casey disappears, but two years later suddenly returns, and is willing to enter back into his old pack at whatever the cost to help a friend. Little does he understand Mason’s feelings for him when he disappeared, or his own feelings that he’s been burying for years.
It’s a fun shifter story, and I liked the mix of wolf and cat dynamics, but your mileage will really vary on how much you looooooooove super controlling alpha characters. Super Controlling. Even though that hyper-possessiveness was tapping into Casey’s latent submissiveness nature, it still felt odd to read sometimes.
Also needs a lot of copy-editing for typos, etc, but it’s a free short online novel, so that’s sometimes par for the course. If you love shifter stories, and are fine with ultra-possessive alphas, you may dig this fic.
This is definitely one of the best and highest ranking fanfictions I've read in a while. It sucked me in and I just couldn't stop reading when I began reading it, and that resulted in reading long in to the night. The characters were very believable and compelling. I liked that fact that, unlike most shifter stories, there was no insta-love/lust going on, and that there was no sex until the end. It worked because it would have messed up the story because it wouldn't have made sense and wouldn't have been realistic with how the story developed. The world building could have been a little more 'developed' but it doesn't drag the story down in my opinion but that's probably my curiosity talking. I'm hoping for a sequel since it will be nice to know what happens to Casey, Mason and their pack after the end of Pack Dynamics - again my curiosity talking. In short I think this story is, dare I say it?, better than some of the published shifter-books I've read it. It is up there among my favorites and I will definitely read it again.
It's a good story for those who enjoys lots of sexual tension, domination and submission and etc I do so it was an awesome hot story for me lol I don't recommend it it to people though who do not like animalistic twist to a relationship and who feel grossed out by people enjoying a little humiliation and domination. So all in all, I'm a bit twisted so I throughly enjoyed all parts of the story that has both hot moments and a bit of plot. However, the author did not develop many mentioned aspects of the universe therefore I rated the story as 3 stars and also because I rated better stories as 4. But if you want an entertaining read I definitely think this story is worthwhile!
I thought this was a good story. It hit all the good parts in shifter fic, dominance, possessiveness, marking, jealousy. All of that. My one complaint, and personal pet peeve is that it was too short. I hate books that are about 100 pages and online stuff that is less than 100k words. I read through them too fast and there's not enough plot or character development.
