About Me I believes the only thing sexier than a man in cowboy boots is two, or three men in cowboy boots. I also believes in love at first sight, soul mates, true love, and happy endings.
I live in the great Northwest region of the USA, with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, two boxer/collie puppies, one old biddy cats, and three fish. When I'm not being a mother to my six teenagers or cleaning up after my two 70 pound lap puppies, you can usually find me cuddled in bed with a book in my hand and a puppy in my lap. Or on my laptop, creating the next sexy man for one of my stories.
I welcomes comments from readers, so drop me a line. stormyglenn@hotmail.com
What do I do ? I'm a writer of erotic, paranormal, werewolf, futuristic, contemporary, gay, and Ménage a Trois romances. I'm currently published with Siren Publishing, Torquere Press, and Noble Ellora's Cave.
This was such a fast moving story and not in a good way. They were together, 3 days max. Went from straight guy/ gay guy fighting to gay guys sleeping together in no time. Then the story seems to neatly resolved and they have a HEA. Where is the meat? Where are the intense feelings, the story?! This is my second ( or third) book by Stormy Glenn and they have so much potential but we go from zero to sixty and miss all the good stuff in between. I think I've learned my lesson.
I think this should definitely be a series! The rest of the Fly Team boys need stories too.
Hayden, bar owner, witnesses enough of some illegal activity to get multiple attempts on his life. As an ingenious idea, the big FBI guys decide to hide straight ladies man as a gay man with a live in lover.. hence where Jackson comes in, who's never tried to hide his orientation. Would have liked to see more of his obvious 'gayness' in action that was slightly hinted at. It would contrast nicely with his badassness of being able to handle himself, we just didn't get enough blend of that.
Major complaint: This is the FBI! They've obviously had a leak somewhere to have so many attempts on Hayden. Minor complaint: how fast Hayden fell into man to man sexual encounters without going through a major headache. Plus considering Hayden confesses to be a straight man, they fell into bed and sex awfully quick.
The ending was sweet.. maybe a bit.... rushed? in that Hayden's acceptance of a major life change seemed a bit rushed.
But after this: Okay, this was kind of an awkward read for me.
Let me elaborate.
I've been reading a lot of m/m lately. So much so, in fact, that whenever these kind of GFY-ish situations come up, I keep expecting something like:
Originally Gay One: "I love you." Other Dude: "I love you, too." Originally Gay One: *le gasp* "REALLY??" *happy dance* Other Dude: *snorts* "Yeah, no. I was just going to turn gay for you? It ain't that easy, dude. I don't just stare at you very hard and then suddenly get all hot for you, no matter how nice a person you are and how much I like you."
Okay, maybe not exactly like that (that might be a little harsh? idk), but something like that. Like the other dude pulls a Mildmay or something. It's weird stuff.
This book. I liked that the whole law-enforcement thing was used in such a way that there wasn't anything for me to obviously challenge. Subtle elements were incorporated, but it wasn't ridiculous to the point where I was about to research police/w.e protocol just so I could definitively call bullshit.
This book is definitely nicely developed and seems a step up from Glenn's previous books. It's nice to see definite growth in an author's writing :D Part of it, though, might also be the differences in subject matter.
It wasn't pulp-ish. I had issues with the ending, but not overly major, so w/e.
I loved these guys, they made a cute couple. I totally agree with having this being a series, it would be nice to have the other Fly Team members get their own stories.
1.5 stars I'm mad at myself. I should have known better than to have high hopes for this book. I haven't read a Siren book I really loved ever and the other Stormy Glenn books I've read have been less than satisfying, but the description of this book is totally my catnip. Undercover op? Check! "Straight" MC? Check! Forced proximity for maximum UST? Check! Well, let's just say when I started reading, I was giddy with excitement and by the end I was hate reading it. I just had to finish it so I could be angry in my review. The story was a mess. The "straight" guy is says he's known since he was a kid that he wanted to be with a guy one minute and the next minute he's freaking out because he's attracted to a guy. *sigh* Don't even get me started on the ridiculousness of the op and the unprofessionalism of the FBI agents. All of them. Yeesh. And to top it off, the whole reason it was on the list was the piercings the FBI agent had and yes he had them and he talked about them a lot but they hardly came up, so to speak, during the sex scenes. So disappointing on so many levels. :-P
Also, I kept wanting to type Stormy Daniels instead of Stormy Glenn. Lol!
I really enjoyed this FBI undercover-protective-custody detail story. It was very close to being a 5 star, but I just couldn't do it because the ending got a little muddled and there were so many opportunities missed for this to be a Laurel Heights type book. I was getting so excited during the first few chapters, thinking I had finally found a book similar to one of my all-time-favorites, Laurel Heights. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, but I still really liked it.
Recommended if you like confident, gay FBI agents with serious skills, big brawny bartenders under protective custody struggling with their sexual identity, serious sexual tension and magical HEAs.
Please be a series! Such a good story and this could b a good series as the other members of the fly team need to have their story told. Would have liked to see more of Jackson's gayness that was hinted at and find out what piercings he has, many times ere are references at he has ALOT of piercings yet not many are mentioned, no were near as may as is hinted
This book has a type of storyline that I love a detective falls for the person he is protecting. The only difference this time is that it’s a gay storyline. If you don’t like the sound of that stay away from this book.
Stormy Glenn’s books are a sheer pleasure for me to read. When I’m in the mood for a fast-paced book with sexy heroes, I’ll reach for one of her books time and time again. I like her easy style of writing and her stories are quick and to the point…which can be really nice after a long, hard day or after reading an angsty book that leaves me exhausted. I like how her books bring a smile to my face and in Protective Custody she did exactly that.
The blurb does an excellent job at describing the story, so I won’t rehash it. I did like both of the heroes in this book. Both Hayden and Christian come from different backgrounds and when Hayden witnesses a crime that puts his life in jeopardy, he’s put under police protection. Hayden knows he’s doing the right thing by testifying against the perp, but it’s still hard on him. He can’t contact his loved ones, he’s stuck in an old room with little to do. When he meets Christian, who is one of the officers who are guarding him, they don’t immediately hit it off. Christian is intrigued by Hayden, and the more he gets to know him begin to really care for him, but this also scares him for two reasons. The first reason is: he’s not supposed to get emotionally or physically involved with the witness he’s guarding over. Two, Christian is confused and worried about his attraction towards Hayden. Up until he met Hayden, Christian had never been attracted to other men before, but there’s something special about Hayden that Christian can’t deny.
I really enjoyed watching these two men really work hard to be together. Their love is a forbidden one and there’s definitely an element of danger that is always licking at Hayden’s heels because of what he’s witnessed. Both men have to do some serious soul searching to make sure that the love they have for each other is worth the work they have to put into it to be together. I loved the determination both man had to be together and loved how they made things happen for them, even when the odds were against them.
They fall in love over a short time, so I know there will be some people who will not like that aspect of the story. Since I believe in first sight and I thought the chemistry between the two men was intense, this didn’t bother me at all. Ms. Glenn always does an excellent job at writing heated attraction and strong feelings her heroes share between them. It’s one of her strong points as a writer and I really enjoy it.
Although there isn’t any indication on the website that this could be the beginning of a series, I know I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will be. I really loved this book and hated to see it come to an end.
Protective Custody is a fast-paced, sexy, action packed book full of romance and suspense. If you are a Stormy Glenn fan, this book is not to be missed. If you’ve never read anything by her, this would be a good choice to give her books a try. Her books are a great choice for a lazy afternoon read.
Well. There were just so many things wrong with this book, I don't even know where to start. So to be more organised, here's a list: 1. Like I have mentioned in so many of my reviews, I really dislike insta-love. This was one of those instances where I wanted to cry it was so cheesy. 2. THE WHOLE FUCKING PLOT OF THE BOOK. Like, really? A gay couple? Why not a woman? Better yet - WHY NOT A CONVENTIONAL FUCKING WITSEC? Like this was just stupid - the only thing they could think of was going undercover as a gay couple? What about just hiding in fucking Alaska or something? But they still used their real names? What a bunch of bullshit. And they really thought it wouldn't look suspicious that a group of macho guys moved into the same house at the same time? 3. How the info was leaked. The chances of that happening in real life are zero. 4. The ending.
All in all: unrealistic plot, unrealistic relationship, everything unrealistic.
-I kind of just want to give this book zero stars.... 0.4 stars
These are just my own notes. Maybe someday I'll get to a review but right now I have to get my notes off my dying ereader.
The secrecy is so great he's not even allowed to take his own clothes but they let him use his own name. LOL: "How do you feel about helicopters, Flynn?" "I feel pretty good about them as long as they stay on the ground." Good that they acknowledge that asking about whether someone is gay would make them lose their jobs. He told Hayden it was okay to ask, shouldn't be mad. Hayden is ignorant not judgmental and Randall flies off the handle. Overreacting. Spiky hair dangles? Many, many, gay people won't touch in public. Shouldn't be seen as a sign of shame but of safety. My lover and I were together for six years and we very rarely touched in public in anything but a platonic way. It was many years ago but it was Seattle and it was after I went to the prom with another woman and we both wore tuxes. We knew we were safe with those people. (25 years ago we were accepted, people! Grow up world!) Overreacting to morning wood. He didn't notice the tongue piercing when they first kissed? Max came out of the door with them. Why would Max have informed the team of what he had done? Might have prejudiced them and then they might not work well together. Why would they send Jackson to do surveillance. Would blown his cover immediately. There are others on the team. It's a good premise but the police work sucks. Best Stormy Glenn story I've read to this point. Just wish they'd been in custody longer and that everything the FBI did wasn't so carelessly and needlessly wrong. Resolution of case was too pat and easy. IT was sweet and opened it up for a possible sequel.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I kept wondering whether I’d read this before; the plot was so generic and the characterization so thin. No. I’m thinking… No, probably not. Completely forgettable and vaguely unsatisfying. That’s what this book is – for me. It’s also repetitive, unlikely, not particularly endearing. Luckily short as well.
It becomes apparent quite quickly that Jackson’s… kinda touchy. Going by the writing itself I don’t understand the provocation. Maybe it’s in the tone of Hayden’s delivery, but if so, that should have been made clear. These FBI people are super unprofessional, too. Poor Hayden. Not that he makes hugely more sense.
I decided at the very beginning that I would not comment on any of the logical issues here. (Not worth it, really.) But this one time will I give in. Consider it an example of the rest.
Soooo. Jackson bought the tightest jeans possible for Hayden in anticipation of seeing him in them. Even though he expected Hayden to have a beer gut and bad teeth and be unattractive in general. And this was after Jackson saw his picture in the report and knew Hayden was hot. WTF? And a Kevlar vest goes so well with tight fitting clothes; I am sure no one will ever notice. Must have been an interesting smooch fest, too, for Hayden not to notice Jackson’s tongue piercing until much later.
Ah, god! Where is my off switch? This is stupid. Contradictions everywhere. Idiocy everywhere. No freaking sense!
So I did not like it. Not very much to enjoy for me here. That’s not to say that others will feel the same way. Going by the prevalent ratings and reviews people actually seem enthusiastic. I want to read what they were reading, because it can’t have been this.
While the premise of a LEO falling for their charge is nothing new, it’s always much, much better when the story has a M/M romance element to it. While I am not overly fond of the whole gay-for-you storyline, I wanted to read this book since it was written by Stormy Glenn. That certainly wasn’t the case with this story. Hayden was always gay, but of course, growing up in the neighborhood he grew up in with an intensely homophobic father pushed him deep into the closet, so deep that he repressed his feelings. Meeting Jackson brought those feelings out. I really liked this story; the only thing that prevented me from giving it a full 4 sweet peas was the editing. It was filled with editing mishaps. Editing aside, it was still quite an enjoyable read, and one that I would still recommend.
I liked the story and could have bought the whole but the story didn't feel as centered on the main characters as it should have been. There were also two things that were a little off for me. The big plot line and reason the two men were together is WAY too neatly tied up. Also the way that Hayden reacted to everything went from one extreme to the other, not a consistent character.
I did enjoy Jackson. He was a strong character that made the story enjoyable. I think if the main plot was developed more I would have enjoyed the whole of the read.
I've given this 5*s, maybe after a 2nd reading I'll lower that rating. It might just be the mood I'm in but I loved this book. Sweet, loving and emotional, not high literature but you don't read these books for that.
It's a wonderful feel good, giving oneself a cuddle book. I really hope that this is the start of a new series, Stormy has the groundwork in place with other characters from Max's team.

Having read this again I have lowered the rating to a four star. I still think this could be the basis of a good series; Max, Harry and Jersey are all great characters.
2.5 stars This was mildly entertaining but not my favorite SG book. I have read tons of her stuff and so the whole "insta-love" thing is not a problem for me when I read her books - I know going into a story what to expect. This one just didn't have much of a spark. I didn't feel much empathy for the plight of the boys in the story, and there were too many secondary characters that were heavily involved. If I am going buy into insta-love then I need to feel it too and in this one I just didn't.
I enjoyed this book way more than I was expecting. Was it realistic and deep, well no but it was fun to read. And entertaining for sure. Slow build up between the two men which is right considering one is "straight" and when they finally do get together, the sex was pretty hot. Not crazy kinky or anything but really good.
I love Stormy Glenn and wanted to love this, but the relationship developed too fast for me. 3 days from "gay is kinda gross" to was just too fast for me. This book needed about 50 more pages of fleshing out and it would have been AWESOME- the elements were there it was just too short and fast.
Only 3 stars because while I liked it there were some moments where I wanted to whack one or both characters upside the head and shake the stupid out. The plot could have been a bit more filling, too, but that's okay. Sometimes you're in the mood for steak, other times you want popcorn. This book is popcorn for your brain.
dnf-never again. never getting sucked into in other Stormy Glenn book. I have read 2 that I liked, 2 that I tolerated and this is the second that was not even worth finishing. Constantly think that if I try again I will get back to the ones that made me laugh out loud. But never again.
Loved this book. Wished it had been longer though or maybe a follow up to see how Hayden and Jackson got on. So wanted to know more about Jackson's piercings..... Hot sex as well. What more could I ask for?
I definitively liked this story a lot, the idea was great and I enjoyed meeting the main charcters. Even if the plot was maybe a bit fast paced and the coming together a bit too quick, I can only recommend this book! I will surely read another story by this author soon!
This was just an okay read for me. The whole scenario was a little far fetched and sorta out there, but I knew it going into reading it. I would have like to read more about the team - I think more of a focus on them and how they all interact would have been interesting.
