There is a reason Tim O'Rourke is on my short list of authors whose books I will purchase sight unseen, no blurb or reviews required, no questions asked, every single time without fail. And every time I read another one of his books I'm reminded why. The man is a genius!! Evil? -maybe. Sadistic & wicked? -probably. Twisted? -most definitely. His stories knock me on my arse every.single.time. GENIUS!!

His leading ladies ALWAYS ROCK, the guys are funny & mysterious, his villains are straight out of our nightmares-wicked! Bloody-gross-suspenseful & chock full of surprises ALWAYS and Witch was no different.

I can't really go into the plot without spoiling the story. As per usual with O'Rourke, there is so much intrigue, deception & surprises that almost anything I say will kill the ending & I can't do that. You have to just read the story as it unfolds to truly appreciate it. All I can say is be prepared, it's a bumpy ride. You will cringe, cry, laugh hysterically, & scream your full head off. You will not be able to walk away so make sure you have some free time. This is not a YA novel, it is Adult & some parts are oh so
sexy ;)
I completely fell in love with Vincent & Sydney was a work of art. I know that this was supposed to be a stand-alone novel BUT I have a very strong desire to see it turn into a series **hint/hint-wink/wink** At the end of the day it was an extraordinary book by a phenomenal author that I scream my recommendation for very VERY LOUDLY. Not following this author would be a devastating loss to your literary soul. So very friggin addicting. What are you waiting for?!?? Download this book now, seriously-RIGHT NOW!! Trust me on this =)

Tim O'Rourke's journey into the "Adult" writing is a success! It only took me a few hours to devour WITCH. The characters were likable, the story line intriguing. While I have followed Tim's Kiera Hudson character from Vampire Shift on through all of the other books in the series', I think Sydney Hart is going to give Kiera a run for her money.
In typical Tim O'Rourke writing fashion, he had me pulling my hair out brain screaming "WHAT???". I have enjoyed watching Tim grow as an author for almost two years now and WITCH is proof of that growth. Well written and in my opinion rivaling that of some published authors. Tim, a big well done to you friend. You have done a great job.
I HIGHLY recommend WITCH! Get it, read it, share it with your friends!

Although classed as a paranormal romance/thriller, 'Witch' has something to offer most genres, including horror, adventure, mystery and fantasy. Tim O'Rourke definitely meets his intended audience's needs as this novel is fun and flirtatious but frightening and fearsome. Not to mention saucy, sensual and sexy. Hence the recommendation of mature readers.

The reader is instantly drawn into the story with Sydney and Michael trying to share a passionate moment. But, should she be doing this? Is she making a mistake? Even at the age of twenty, Sydney is still behaving like a tearaway, however she still comes to learn that she must take responsibility.

Sydney is a very likeable character and, as the book is written from her point of view throughout, the reader can make a strong connection to her. She wants to do the right thing, make her father proud, but isn't she entitled to a little fun?

It is from this moment that events take place that will change Sydney's life forever. Sydney begins having nightmares. These nightmares are vivid, frightening and eerie to the reader, as well as to Sydney. There are cringe-worthy moments, for example "...that flap of skin slapping against his emaciated face..." In parts, it made my skin crawl.

The effect that this novel has is brilliant. I went from laughing out loud one minute to being overcome with fear the next. This is one of the consequences from writing great characters as they are so full of life.

Vincent is my favourite character as he is awkward and funny. He appears to be sweet but cheeky and a little strange at times. One of my favourite scenes is when Vincent is dancing. Tim O'Rourke sets the scene up really well with the atmosphere and the music. The reader can feel Vincent really getting into the song and when Sydney had seen him she says, "You looked like you were having a fit!" Although sarcastic of Sydney, I found it very amusing.

The reader is taken on a mystery/adventure as Sydney tries to get to the bottom of these nightmares and why she was called a 'witch'. Has she been cursed? Is the curse the reason for her nightmares?

In the back of her mind, Sydney is constantly conscious of her father. He is a strong and demanding character, but a little lost and empty too deep down. He is always wanting the best from his daughter but usually feeling disappointed with her. This is a great under current of the main story.

As in Tim O'Rourke's 'Keira Hudson' series I enjoy the mention of modern technology, such as the iPod and, in this novel, the mini iPad. Knowing that the characters are using the technology that many of us have now and naming music artists and songs that the characters are listening to make this journey even more believable. Although some may see this point as being trivial, I believe that sometimes it is these small mentions that do provide a connection, an understanding with the reader which makes it seem that little bit more real.

As always, it has been my intention to write an honest and constructive review. Where is the criticism? Personally, I genuinely cannot fault the story, the characters, the setting nor the style of writing. The story is quick-paced, written direct to the point and each scene's mood and atmosphere is built up beautifully to help create the events that take place. However, therefore, the reader is left wanting more. Whilst the novel wrapped up really well, missing nothing out, I would have liked it to have been longer. I just wanted to carry on reading! And on that note, I am hoping for more of Sydney Hart!!!

I would like to thank Tim O'Rourke for this copy of 'Witch', received in return for an honest and sincere review.

BOOK REVIEW by Michelle - 31st January 2013:

Witch is a playground of twists and turns. My brain was doing its own parkor with theories.

This was a very clever read.

Love the characters. Each brings their own twists to the party. One, totally got me. I was on to something, had a theory, and then Bam! WT!!!

Sydney Hart has a side to her that plays with fire. Couple of times I was like, dang girl, you are bringing another personality to the table.

With the things I was onto or thought I was on to, Tim would then throw this curveball at my head.

DUUuuUUCCCccckkk!!

For the couple things I was right about there were fifteen I was not. I’m like Sherlock Holmes when I read one of Tim’s books. I have my magnifying glass out and I am noting the crumbs that get dropped. I store them away and I try to make sense of them when I read.

Nerd Alert!

I tell you, you get an awesome mental work out with this book..... if you choose to theorize, which I can’t help doing.

Crumbs were being dropped like we were Hansel and Gretel being led down the garden path to.......... well, I can’t tell you that!

It was like tennis with Michael at one end of the net and Vincent at the other, I was the ball. They are chalk and cheese in personality. Where one knows how to play the game, rawrrrrr, the other is awkward and sweet.

Michael in his spray-on tight T-shirt and scruffy jeans, is all, humma, humma and muscle..... and his dirty talk * blushes*. Then there was Vincent with his awkward, quirkiness that was endearing and trusting....... and his Jammy Dodgers.

”It’s just like I said... you look really tired...” Vincent continued to stammer and fluster. “... so when I said do you want to go to bed.... I didn’t mean with me..... I wasn’t suggesting that we .... you know .... had jiggy-jiggy or anything like that....”

I totally dig Vincent. We could have fun doing our awkward dancing and our singing, and have a fun night. I dig his music too.

Witch is a quick read, with more twists than a boomerang flying through the air, the characters will pick at your brain, Tim will ALWAYS give us a dose of that ewwwwww gore that he writes so well, that will leave a clear visual image in your head. He always makes me glad I am not eating anything.

Rain and darkness is the ambiance that sits well in this story of deceit and mayhem.

All is NEVER what it seems..... and what is seems ...may not be true.

Yeah, what did I just say?

When you read a Tim O’Rourke book, then you will understand that sentence.

Nice one Tim!

Dark, mysterious, intriguing, sexy read that will keep you guessing until the very end!

A racy, paranormal romance with a chilling twist.*

It's difficult to say much more than this, O'Rourke picked his juicy tidbits to reel the reader in perfectly. O'Rourke is hands down a master of the paranormal genre and I would read any book he penned regardless, his writing is that good. Up is Down, and Down is Up in this book. O'Rourke delves out minute' details deliciously slowly, keeping the perfect balance of mystery and intrigue to keep the reader flipping the pages. Just when it looks like Sydney has everything figured out, she finds out she was mistaken.. or was she, oh yes she was.. not.

O'Rourke gets a little sexier in this book than he has with his previous titles, and he nailed that aspect of the storytelling as well! So yes, I will have to warn that this book is intended for 18+ due to sexual content and sheer creepiness.

5/5 for me, definitley a must read, I will keep this one qued on my kindle for a revisit in the near future!

Sydney Hart is twenty years old and a police officer. She still lives in the small village she grew up in and although she had the reputation of being a hell raiser when growing up she is trying to make her father proud now especially since he is her boss! When Sydney meet local farmers son Michael Greyson she wonders if she hasn't made her biggest mistake but she is drawn to him and after sharing a moment of passion events happen in Sydney's life which spiral it out of control, leaving her wondering who she can trust and are the people closest to her really who she thought they were!!
WOW !!! Well Tim O'Rourke has knocked my socks off again. He is one of the authors I will put a book on hold for....even if it's at a good bit!! This book has everything, engaging characters, gripping story line and amazing twists and turns that will leave you with your mouth open saying OMG really !!! This book is also a little different from Tim other works as it is aimed as the adult reader which he has done effortlessly!! This is supposed to be a stand alone book but I'm keeping fingers and toes crossed that Sydney gets another story :)

I normally give such lengthy reviews on Tim's books because they are just 'that' good and Witch is no different. Tim has departed from the YA genre with 'Witch' and entered the adult realm with Sydney Hart and her crew. This book has hot and steamy sex scenes, sexy men, mystery, murder, love, betrayal, suspense, romance and a huge dose of paranormal. It is everything you could possibly want in a paranormal book.

'Witch' is nothing like his other books, so please do not compare them. One of main things I love about Tim's writing is his ability to bring the characters to life and give them each their own complete identity. So, there are no similarities just in case you are looking for them.

This is probably one of my favorite books he has written, but then I say that with each book I read. I don't need to know what the book is about in order to purchase it if it is written by Tim. Even if he put a new spin on 'Mary Had A Little Lamb' or 'Little Bo Peep Lost Her Sheep' I know it will be a 5-star page turner.

Oh, Once you finish 'Witch' you are definitely going to want more of Vincent and Sydney, so be sure you have already bought book #2. I cannot wait to tear into it.

Such an amazing book! Tim O'Rourke is a God put on this earth to write awesome novels for my reading pleasure! Seriously! Not a single book of his have I read and not enjoyed. He writes kick ass heroines, from Kiera Hudson to Samantha Carter and my new girl Sydney Hart :) I buy all of Tim's books sight unseen, description unread because not a single one ever disappoints! Do yourself a favor and go buy one of his books. Go ahead! Any one of them will do because they are all kick ass. Now I have to end this review because I'm going to go buy Yellow book two of the Sydney Hart series and stay up all night like a mad person to finish it.

I absolutely loved this book, as with all of Tim's books I have to have them as soon as they come out, they are that good and Witch did not disappoint. Loved Sydney, gorgeous, strong minded and certainly has a way with the men and willing to take it all on to get justice. I certainly couldn't predict the ending even though i thought i'd got it figured out a few times, wrong it just kept me guessing until the very end, and my god what an ending, fantastic. Tim, where do you come up with all these fantastic ideas?? You truly are amazing!!Keep up the good work!!

So, I am a fan and was ready for something a little different than my normal reads. Tim brought it to the table and floored me! I thought this was going to be a "typical" witch paranormal and that was so far from the truth! Sydney is young, lost and searching for acceptance. Her father is the key to that acceptance but he is always disappointed in her. This book takes turns and dropoffs that I never saw coming. Just when you think you know what is going on and the answers to all your questions, you get blindsided with the truth. Read and you will love it!

First, I must say that this one is definitely for mature readers. Now with that said, wowsers is Witch steamy! We saw a glimpse of Mr. O'Rourke's passionate side in Vampire Seeker, but he's really unleashed it this time! The story is intriguing and I truly hope we'll see more of Sydney. I like that her character is flawed but likeable. As in typical O'Rourke fashion, there are plenty of twists! I found myself trying to guess whodunit only to be surprised in the end!

What I love about O’Rourke’s novels is that, without fail, he always surprises me with his many twists and turns, which is exactly what happens in his latest new adult novel, Witch. This story centers around a 20-year-old female cop who’s a bit wild. She likes to drink, and she likes sex. In other words, she makes a lot of bad decisions, and her father, a cop himself, has always looked down on her. Thus, Sydney’s done the only thing she could think of to make him look at her differently. She became a cop, too. But, her wildness is still there, and on two instances, we see her very wild side with Michael Grayson and his kitchen table… and from here, Sydney’s life goes downhill. Drinking and “playing” on the job leave her less than lucid when she gets behind the wheel, and tragedy strikes at Sydney’s hand…

But, as with all O’Rourke novels, not everything is what it seems. Though it certainly looks that way, O’Rourke strings his readers along, filling us with many emotions in the wake of the horrible roadside massacre and its strange and eerie relation to a death that happened ten years in the past. And this is where O’Rourke’s many twists and turns make themselves apparent as Sydney attempts to uncover the truth in order to live with what she’s done.

Sydney is a great character. She is very flawed, but that’s what makes her so real. Of course I don’t condone her behaviors at the beginning of the story, but the knowledge of her wild side helps the reader really connect with her and the enormity of what she’s done. We’ve all felt guilt (though hopefully not at the level Sydney does), and while we aren’t the perpetrators in this novel, O’Rourke makes his readers really understand guilt and self-hatred. But, he also allows Sydney to grow and become a much more responsible adult, which is always the sign of a great author. Character growth is key in novels, and in this one, while we do a have the few needed flat characters, our main ones morph and change throughout the text. And with the many jarring twists and turns, and the paranormal aspect O’Rourke incorporates, well… this is a gem.

Now, truth be told, I’m not really a fan of the new adult genre. I don’t care for bouts of sex and erotica in my stories, and I certainly don’t seek them out, but with an author like Tim O’Rourke, I know the novel itself it going to be so good that I can handle being out of my comfort zone for a little while if it means I get to be astounded and amazed by his latest story. And I was. No matter what genre, I will always read O’Rourke’s work because I know it’s going to be fabulous (But this one is definitely for the 18+ crowd).

So, Sydney Hart, she's just like you and me may have been in our twenties, reckless, not sure what to do and with a hunger for fun, sex and irresponsibility. But life and dad keep wiggling the NO-NO finger right in her face. This book is racy, unstoppable, I had a hard time putting it down last night to go to sleep... even moreso, I never did, I fell asleep reading it, when my eyes were beaten down by the tiredness of the day. And this morning, I started re-reading the last few parts while having breakfast, and then I kept on reading until I finished.
It's one of those books that pulls you in right away, as soon as you open it. And the narrative is so good you can picture everything. I now know Sydney like I know my oldest friend, I know her likes and dislikes and I know who and what she is.
Then again... the crows... the "Witch"... sexy Michael... no, I can't talk about anything or I'll be spoiling it for you. But believe me, you'll be entrapped by the book and you won't be able to leave it's world. Sydney will hold you right beside her the whole time, and you'll live through her experiences. Do not think you can just read this book... no, you cannot, you will live in it... you will fall into it and be a part of the story. I wish I could tell you more, but that would ruin it for you. What I can give you is one of the funniest Sydney quotes in the book: "It was wasted on me, I guess, not like the visitors who came from overcrowded cities in the summer months. They acted as if they'd never seen a freaking hill, the sea, or sand before. Perhaps they hadn't."

Another awesome read from Tim O'Rourke! Always making readers pull out their hair, because yeah, it's that good. No surprise that I've become obsessed with another of his male characters. Vincent is just too adorable!

Sydney is an amazing character who has been living a life filled with emotional abuse at the hands of her father. I can't really say too much without giving away the goods. Parents are meant to love and guide, not belittle and point in the opposite direction.

Great plot with all sorts of twists and turns. One minute you think you've figured it out, the next you're pulling at your hair. Adult situations, definitely not for kids. It has all the goodness that makes a great story. Suspense, love, lust, betrayal, murder, sarcasm, and no nutritional value whatsoever. You'll love it because it pulls you in and makes you want to be there to watch it all unfold.

Great characters whom you'll love and some you'll hate. Great plot twists that will make you want to call the author and asks, WHY!! LOL! Lord knows that I did. Amazing book that I'd definitely recommend for any adult who enjoys a good paranormal mystery and some good adult situations. *winks*

When I read all the favourable reviews for this book, I thought I'd be in for a treat. However, the more I read the more let down I felt. Even the beginning just relied on sex rather than good writing to get the reader interested. I got that the main character was portrayed as flawed and too reliant on sex to make her feel self worth but, for me, she came across as a bit of a caricature and the sex scenes as just a device to stop the reader noticing the novel's shortcomings.
The plot was ok but predictable as I guessed nearly all the twists. The only reason I didn't guess the last one is because it was just laughable. I won't give it away but I found myself exclaiming "come on please!?" I found Vincent's character extremely annoying and Sydney's positive response to him inexplicable.
None of the characters were believable, the dialogue was poor and the writing very average. I really don't understand why this book has had so many positive reviews. I nearly didn't bother finishing it as I did not feel it was real or compelling in any sense. The ending just confirmed how silly a book it was. Wouldn't recommend it.

Not having read one of Tim's books for several weeks, then reading two together in quick succession can only be described as when you buy that expensive bottle of wine you love on special occasions or when it's on offer or that chocolate bar you love and the first bite / taste.....simply divine!
No matter the release in Tim's writing your in for a roller coaster of a ride and Witch is no exception. Sydney Hart is a feisty character with a soft centre yearning for acceptance in several area's of her life and I got swept away in her journey. The relationship with her father, the two men she meets along the way, her career - its steamy, romantic, shocking and a brilliantly believable read which again I couldn't put down. Heart warming story which as always feels like its over too soon. Tim you need to work on a never ending book next, but then again it still wouldn't be long enough! Serious praise for another winner in my opinion.

Having been a fan of his other series for years now, I eagerly picked up this book anticipating the new story and it was nothing like I had imagined. Tim's books are kind of like buying those lucky dips when I was in school, you never knew exactly what you were going to get but it was always a surprise. I originally thought the paranormal aspect of this story would involve witches as was hinted by the title but it turned out to be nothing that predictable and yet I was definitely engaged and really enjoyed the change of pace from his "Kiera Hudson series." It has everything you need to keep you interested and guessing till the very end. Lots of sexy steamy moments, some romance, a mystery waiting to be solved and a heroine who finds the courage and strength to stand up for her convictions. Another winner, well done Tim and I liked the mention of your other book too.

Oh wow! What a frickin wild ride. Up, down and all around. Half the time I didn't know if I was meeting myself coming or going. Wow, just wow! What you think you know, you most surely don't. Puts me in mind of the quote by Lewis Carroll. "If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. (Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?)" I loved this book. At first I wasn't sure, but I became intrigued by the plight of the main character. Hence, we come to the wild ride. By turns I was sad, happy, intrigued, pissed off, happy, mad, laughing (jiggy-jiggy anyone?), surprised (didn't see that one coming), tears and finally a satisfied, yet somewhat sad sigh. I really hope another book comes along to continue on the adventures of Sydney Hart.

Loved it! Sydney struggles with her relationship with her copper father – what a complete pr*** he is RIGHT from the start. He doesn’t give a damn about his daughter, just his reputation and position in the force. Her mother took off with her Spanish lover – good for her... accept she abandoned her daughter with the unfeeling dad – so no love for our heroine. She manages to get on with her life and has a history of getting it together with the wrong men, time after time – looking for love, but only finding a temporary release?

As always, Tim O’Rourke will make you become enraptured, excited and shocked at the build up to the twists and turns of Syd’s life.

As for the end... you think you can see how it will finish and Tim, yet again, brings you to an amazing finale and leaves you wanting MORE!

This book is predominantly story-based, rather than character based (which is my preference). I was tempted to give a 3-star rating for that reason, but my preference doesn’t mean the author didn't do his job. The book is well written, but I never connected with the main characters, in fact, I never really liked them (which may have been the author's intention). The story was unusual and I enjoyed how the writer unraveled the plot (well done!).

Tim has gone and done it again. When you can't think you can be anymore shocked he goes and surprises you again. It had me sucked in from the very first word to the last word at the end. Tim I really don't know how you do it but keep doing it :)

Wow!

I'll admit that up until the 90-ish% mark, that I was going to happily give this 4 stars. But then that last 10% was definitely 5 star worthy.

Another great book from the author and I will gladly admit to being a fan, after only two books (this and Vampire Seeker/Cowgirls & Vampires)

Sorry, can't say that I really care for Tim O'Rourke's novel. The man is seriously twisted and the ending was heartbreaking. I regret reading it.

Didn't finish.

This just couldn't keep me interested. I felt the protagonist has such low self esteem and was all about the sex. Turned me off.
