Many think that Upon The Midnight Clear was a disappointment for the simple fact that the book was "too short." However, knowing ahead of time that it is a specialty release, noted as being longer than a novella but shorter than a novel, while I admit the book was shorter than Sherri's standard, it was very good considering.
Unlike the previous Dream-Hunter novel, Upon The Midnight Clear went in the direction of having a female Dark-Hunter, Leta, and a human male, Aiden. Essentially being targetted by Dolor the god of Pain, Leta's job was to protect Aiden from the death warrent he had out on his head. The plot is in truth extremely simple, but both Aiden and Leta are lovable characters, and the pace of the story was very well established.
While not one of my high ranking favorites in the series, I without question enjoyed this book. An extra bonus was no doubt the added insight scenes of the Peliters, McTinery's, Hunter's, Styker and Nick, and Acheron and Simmi looksees into their Christmas of 2007. I truly loved the bonus scenes, most especially the last of Ash with Alexion, Danger, Simmi, Ximara, Styxx and Urian in Ash's heaven-home, and definatly the moment of Acheron, Sin, and Katra. The fact that Ash percieves a premonition possibly about his herion is so well written and a truly wonderful bonus to the story.
