Mia Blake wasn’t the first girl to be taken by the vampires.
She had heard all about the girls who were missing, and even though they were only “missing”, she knew in her heart that those girls were dead.
She felt sad for them, sure. But more than that, she felt glad that they had been strangers – not someone she knew, and certainly not her. Things like that didn’t happen to girls like her.
They always happened to someone else, and that’s why she barely blinked as she made her way across an empty football field, through a deserted parking lot, to meet a fate she had arrogantly assumed was reserved for other people.
I have loved every other book that I've read written by Lili St. Germain. So, when I saw 'Walking Dead Girl' I wasn't sure how it'd slipped by me for all this time. I immediately one-clicked it and knew that I'd soon be in a reader's heaven.
Unfortunately, this book failed to rise to the level of greatness that I've grown to expect from this author. Maybe it is because it is an earlier book and she hadn't perfected her unique style yet. I don't know. It just didn't call to me like her other works have.
The heroine, Mia Blake, is a high schooler that is kidnapped from her school's parking lot by a group of vampires. She is imprisoned in Mexico and fed off of by Caleb, the world's oldest vampire. Although his intentions aren't fully revealed in this book, it is clear that Caleb has bigger plans for Mia than being an expendable snack.
After a failed escape attempt costs Mia her life, Ryan, one of the vampires that took her and that has guarded her since her capture, turns her into a vampire to save her. One thing leads to another and Mia finds herself on the run with Ryan. After years of service to Caleb, Ryan finds himself as the hunted. Whatever Caleb has planned, it won't be good for either of them if he catches up to them. There's no turning back now.
Ryan contacts an old friend that provides them with a place to hide out. A world of witches and other supernatural beings quickly unfolds. Mia begins to acclimate to her new reality.
Throughout this book I kept waiting for some sort of attraction between Mia and Ryan, or anyone really. I spent a lot of time waiting, but it never happened. There were a few lust-fueled scenes between different characters, but the book was noticeably devoid of any emotional attachments between characters. They all coexisted with minimal regard for one another. I didn't get it.
Eventually, Mia tries to run, but that's an epic fail. Ryan won't let her leave because she has something that he now wants. Again, there was no emotional draw to, or between, these characters, so it was hard to care about her plight.
By the end of the book, I was finally curious to see what was going to happen to Mia. (There was a large plot twist, which kind of added some intrigue to the story.) I went to purchase the next book in the series on Amazon.com immediately to continue the story. Only, the next book is nowhere to be found!
Apparently, the author started this series and then didn't complete it when her other series took off. So, I'm kicking myself right now. There is no word on when the next book will be released and I'm just going to have to live with my frustration for the indefinite future. Do yourself a favor and skip this book, at least until the series is completed by the author. Otherwise, don't say I didn't warn you.
This book was freaking awesome! If you are a PNR fan, add this IMMEDIATELY to your tbr or buy it right now! Jessica blew my mind with this one; never ever would I've guessed it'd be THIS awesome.
You know what was the best part in this book huh?? I'll tell you: No effing, unnecessary, cheesy romance that makes your head hurt, cringe, or role your eyes! It's true, sometimes a book is much better without all the drama and lovey-dovey crap. Instead, Jessica focused to keep her story thrilling, exciting, by adding twists & turns, and some seriously mind-f@ckery. She kept on surprising me until the very last percentages and I often heard myself saying:Oh no...no, she didn't/wouldn't do that to the character...oh crap, she really did. Yeah,Jessica had not really any mercy for her characters *chuckles*, and I LOVED it -every piece of it.
"This is not a story about love. There is no happy ending. There is only darkness, and the struggle to avoid being consumed by it. This is a story about survival."
She made Mia fall out of a building, smash her head in, getting almost sucked dry, and some rough sex on the kitchen counter was there too- I was truly in PNR heaven :D
Ok, here a bit about the story. Never ever had Mia thought she'd end up as one of those girls... those girls, you know, that got kidnapped, never seen or heard of again. Well, her cockiness put her exactly in this situation. She gets abducted and that's were her living hell begins.
"They're going to rape me and kill me and I am going to die. They're going to bury me in the woods ..."
She finds herself in a rotten room with a 'roommate',who's half dead, waiting to get put out of her misery like an old dog. This so-called roomy tells her that every 90days she usually has a new roommate...well crap huh, Mia thinks. BUT little did she know that the big bad Vamp boss has different plans with her.
" 'How long will you keep me?"I asked suddenly. he didn't have to think about it. 'Forver.' I believed him."
When Mia gets moved to another room, one of his Vamps,Ryan, she uses the only chance to escape... a chance that ended in a free fall, face first.
I still don't know if I love or hate Ryan. He's a special kind of twisted. His action didn't all really make sense to me, but I think that's what truly hooked me. I love weird characters, trying to figure them and their attentions out. It's still unclear what is really going on in this VERY old Vamps mind. He's a closed book, but he's the one who changed Mia's life forever. One minute he's sugar sweet and I wanna hug and squeeze him:
"You made me want to be a better person, he said in my head, ... You're the reason i'm leaving that life behind. I want to help you..."
oh and in the next minute I wanna flog him myself. He's unpredictable, a ticking time-bomb, and I loved the crap out of him. I'm dying to know what he truly thinks and feels for Mia.
Is he using her just as a tool for himself, having his own agenda or are his intentions pure and honest?? I do not know yet, but I'm eager to find that out in book 2 !
"I'll never leave you ... I'll never be afraid of you. *sigh, he really does know when to push the right button.
But Mia doesn't forget, he's the reason why she's here in the first place... why she died with 17.
It's a constant struggle and this book has some disturbing things going on, so be aware!!If you don't want to feel offended, then take a minute and put yourself in Mia's shoes - I know what she wants and did was cruel, but ask yourself: What have you done? Nevertheless, I can't wait to get my hands on book 2!
If you're looking for a HEA, then don't pick this book up; if you're looking for a cheesy romance, then don't either; but if you're looking for a kick-ass Vamp book that makes you gasp, wonder, yell out loud and glues you to your kindle because you wanted to find out what's going on, then this is a must read!
This is NOT your typically come of age, NA/YA Vamp book -and thank f@ck for that!!
Copy of book given by author in exchange for an honest review _____________________________________
Another vampire book you tell yourself when you see this on GR or on Amazon. I thought people stopped writing about Vampires and Werewolves. Its all about ex army hotness, motorcycle gangs, billionaires and virgins.
ALRIGHT STOP COLLABERATE AND LISTEN.
CHELC IS BACK WITH A WHOLE NEW INVENTION.
well ok I didn't write this book, but Jessica Roscoe nailed it down with this book. I fell in love with Vampires all over again. I haven't read a vampire book in a very long time. I can't even remember the last vampire book.
The cover drew me in, the plot held my attention, the characters made me laugh and swoon, and the writing made me want more.
I love me some hot vampires, but she put a whole new spin on it. Kidnapping, girls, the very first vampire ever, demons, hotness, special powers, witches and did I mention sexy time with a hot vampire named Ryan?
The only thing that I really want to bitch slap Jessica Roscoe for is the ending. WTF Lady. Start writing the 2nd book. Your killing me over here.
WOW! I really can’t describe my feelings after reading this book! I haven’t read anything like that for some time now and I enjoyed it very much. Dark, fast-paced and unique, this story from the beginning kept my interest. It is a weird, in a very good way, story and sometimes disturbing but the most important thing is that is like no other vampire book.
Mia Blake, out of nowhere, finds herself in an awful situation. She’s been taken by vampires and her life now won’t be the same again ever. She learns that every human nightmare exists in the most horrific way. But the surprises in her life don’t end there. First, she is a captive of a sadistic vampire (Caleb) and, then, she escapes with another (not so sane sometimes!) vampire (Ryan) who turns her into a vampire. Now, she has to learn everything she can for this strange world she is a part of and she must stay hidden because Caleb wants her because he has his own agenda for her.
Mia Blake is definitely an unconventional character. She has real hard time dealing with her new status and she doesn’t like it at all. She wants her old life back and it was difficult for me to read her thoughts because I felt sorry for her (especially at the end of the book). But she is a strong character and she’s smart. She’s trying so hard to do the right things even if sometimes doesn’t really know what she truly wants to do.
Ryan is…. I would be honest. I don’t think that in this book we can learn who truly is Ryan. I have to admit that he isn’t the typical vampire character that I like instantly in other books. He’s not good, but he’s not bad also. He is a man who has made many awful things willingly but he is a man who admits his mistakes. He’s also the kind of man who takes risks even if those risks can cost him his life.
Their relationship isn’t what I would call a hot one or an easy-going one. They have a few moments of lust because of their nature and their bond and some moments of passion but definitely this isn’t a relationship of great love like in other books. To be honest, I didn’t expect what happened at the end of the book and I can’t see how the author will continue the story and that’s why I loved this book! It’s unpredictable! While reading the book, I had this feeling that nothing is as it seems. When you think you know someone, you learn something and then you realize that you don’t know the whole picture.
As for the secondary characters… I liked Sam because he’s someone who tried hard to be what he is now and, at first, I liked Evie but after what happened at the end??? It’s enough to say that I am not happy with her right now!
So, if you like a unique and fast-paced story, this would be the perfect read! I can’t wait for the next book!
In the spirit of fairness I've received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Let me start by saying anyone who reads my reviews can see I'm blunt with my feedback, and that I avoid giving away spoilers. Most times if I can't find anything nice to see I don't review, period.
With that in mind...
The Bad:
I found myself wanting to skip the entire first three pages because it's all backstory. It's painfully obvious this didn't go through an editor. For one thing the author is way too fond of very long sentences, and repetitions. The descriptions are heavy handed. Paragraphs run into huge blocks of text. The dairy-esque beginning of several chapters grew tedious and annoying. Chapter four was a repeat of chapter one's opening. Mia struck me as a TSTL character. Seriously there is a limit to mouthing off, especially to vampires. An ancient vampire no less.
The Good:
The first paragraph was a good opening hook. If you can see past the things mentioned above, once the story gets going, it tries to keep your attention. Mia's thoughts are quite accurate to the situations she finds herself in. The author did a good job of making Caleb creepy. Ryan is quite a character and I connected to him quickly. Hands down Ryan is the reason I finished the story. I wanted to see how his part of the story ended.
Overall I can't give this a full three stars. Way too many major issues for that.
This book was twisted and kind of shocking in some ways and.......I could NOT put it down until the last word was read. (And that was kind of frustrating).
Mia is a very strong female character , that said, I didn't like her. Not before OR after all her sufferings and mishaps ( that's a way of putting things, right?) Ha. Ryan was complicated, controversial, and his moods and actions were very contradictory. Him, I liked! Like I said before, it is twisted , but hey, NOT boring at all. Yes, it is a vampire story, but the perspective is fresh.
The only frustrating thing was the ending, but I'll be there for the next book.
It's been quite a while since I DNF'D a book but I just could not continue with this story. I tried, I really tried too. At first this book wasn't so bad, but as we progressed further into the story I just couldn't deal with the characters and their lack of well, appealing personality traits. Not to mention their horrible decisions.
(I'm not going to rate this book since I didn't finish it.)
Wombstone by Jessica Roscoe is fantastic. It was an enjoyable read from the beginning and it didn’t take me long to get into it either. I have read several vampire books in the past and all of them were different and really great. Wombstone has just been added to my list of awesome vampire books.
Mia Blake is a beautiful 17 year old girl from New Jersey. She attends and lives on campus at Blair Academy, a preppy and expensive high school. She is a senior and is on the track team. Running is a sport that she loves to do. Mia has been filling out college applications and planning her future. Most of Mia’s life hasn’t been that great growing up. She was very close to her dad until he recently passed away and her mother wasn’t around much back then, so she doesn’t have much to do with her now. Mia is parent less and on her own, but she does have her best friend, Evie and a wonderful boyfriend Jared in her life.
One night after leaving campus, Mia’s life is turned upside down and will never be the same. This is where Mia Blake’s story begins about being kidnapped and taken away from her home.
Mia is very scared as she doesn’t know where her kidnapper has taken her. She knows that she is in a room in some building and that she is not alone. A young teenage girl, in the room with her, speaks up and tells her that she has been there for a long time. She tells Mia that they are not the only girls that were held there. Soon enough, Mia’s kidnapper shows up. He is a young handsome man name Ryan and he takes her to their boss Caleb, who is a very bad man.
Mia has never believed in vampires but then something happens to change everything for her. She must escape this nightmare and get away from both Caleb and Ryan. With a little help from Ryan, they both finally escape starting their journey together.
While they are together on this journey, Mia and Ryan have some kind of an attraction for each other but it is very complicated. Mia still doesn’t care or trust Ryan because he was responsible for what happened to her. Ryan told Mia that they have a bond and that he is responsible for her safety. I wonder what is going to happen with Mia and Ryan and will Mia ever learn how to trust him with her life.
While I was reading, I could feel the fear, pain and anger that Mia Blake felt throughout the nightmare that she was in. All she wanted was to be normal again and go back to her old life in New Jersey before she was kidnapped, but she knows deep down that it isn’t going to happen. Will Mia ever get through this nightmare that she is in? Will she be able to accept her life the way it is?
Jessica Roscoe has done an awesome job writing Wombstone. I have really enjoyed reading it and I am looking forward to reading the sequel. This is different from any of the vampire books I have read so far and I would definitely recommend Wombstone to all my friends.
OMG!!! This book was absolutely AMAZING!!! I loved every bit of it and still have not come down from the book high I have after reading and being left with such a cliff hanger!! I can not wait for the sequel to be released, 2014 is too far away. Jessica Roscoe is amazingly talented, Wombstone for me was a Twilight meets A Shade of Vampire PLUS major epic points. I could not put Wombstone down once I started, I was completely hypnotized. Jessica kept me wanting to know more with each turn of the page. I couldn't get enough, there was constant drama and so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming.
Mia has been taken from her home, her only life she has ever known. Now she is living in what she would consider hell. Every story she had ever heard about the paranormal is not as false as she once thought. She is determined not to forget who she is no matter what the cost.
Well wasn't that book a breath of fresh air. What an amazing way of writing about something written so many times. This author has a very loyal follower now. Can't wait for part 2.
I was not expecting to love this book as much as I did at all! I generally try and stay away from books with vampires in them as they tend to be cliché and I just genuinely think that they have been outdone but Wombstone has just made me give them a second chance! No joke! This book was absolutely amazing! I thought that I knew where the plot was going to go but it went in a completely different direction and it was an amazing direction so I couldn't complain one bit! The plot went at the perfect pace! It held my attention all the way through which I figured that it was going to after a couple of chapters in! The plot had so much in it and I actually though that it was going to take place in the one environment but I was soon proven wrong and Wombstone progressed more than I would have thought possible! The characters were amazing! Mia was the main character and she went through a massive change in this book! I loved her as a character because she stood up for herself which I wasn't expecting from her so it left me loving her that little bit more! I love how she stuck to her guns about her developing feelings for Ryan and she didn't go running to him or trust him to start with! I can completely understand why she couldn't trust him though! Ryan was such a hottie! I didn't expect him to help Mia but as the book progressed you could see that he really did want to help her! I really loved him and I loved him even more as the book progressed! I liked that Mia and Ryan's relationship didn't actually develop in this book apart from one particular scene! I was expecting their relationship to actually develop more but I really enjoyed that it didn't but hopefully it does in the next book! The ending was a bit of a surprise! I didn't really like how Mia acted as I thought that it was a bit extreme and I didn't really understand why she acted that way but in a strange way I did as well! The ending has left the plot open and not fully resolved so I am really looking forward to the next book in the Vampireland series! Wombstone was an amazing start to a series and I am looking forward to seeing where it goes next! I also love the cover! Big thank you to Jessica and Amber for having me on the Blog Tour!
Don't you love it when you come across a new book/author who completely surprises you? Jessica Roscoe has done just that. I was lucky enough to beta read Wombstone and was so happy that this wasn't your typical vampire story. There's no girl meets vampire and they fall helplessly in love with one another. This novel is dark and dangerous, what a vampire novel should be. These are the vampires that make you fear the dark. This review may be short because I don't want to spoil anything.
Mia thought her life was pretty good; she might not have the best home life but she had an awesome best friend, had fallen in love over the summer break and was a track star applying to some of the best colleges. Then she gets kidnapped and it all falls apart from there. Even through her fear Mia is still snarky and I really loved that about her. She's surrounded by death but still manages to give them lip. This girl is definitely a fighter. Mia is the type of heroine I love to read about.
Caleb is the first vampire created and he's the reason Mia has been taken. Caleb carries a lot of presence even though he's hardly in the book at all. His name is enough to stir the fear of everyone around him. He is one creepy mofo. Then there's Ryan, I'm not sure how to take him. It's almost like he has mood swings. In the beginning he's selfish and arrogant, but he tells Mia she has made him see the error of his ways. He thinks he's saving her but just ends up damning her.
Roscoe has packed the pages with enough action and intrigue so it never lets up. There is always something happening. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was thrown for a loop. I devoured Wombstone in one sitting and could not pull my eyes away from my Kindle. It's a shiver inducing book that will make you want to keep the lights on. Get yourself a copy of Wombstone now!
I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I joined this blog tour and agreed to do a review on the book. I'm not even really sure how to begin. I have to say that this may be one of my top 5 books that I've ever read. Thankfully, when the book starts the main character, Mia, lets you know that this is no fairy tale - and it definitely is not. This book doesn't have a happy ending, and it leaves you with quite a cliff hanger; and your jaw resting on the floor. This isn't your typical Mature YA vampire story full of hearts and flowers and true love with a happily ever after. This story is dark and at times made me jumpy. This is a story about vampires the way they should be - the kinds that makes you look over your shoulder anytime you're out after dark.
The author did an amazing job making you feel what Mia feels once she is captive. That's right, she is kidnapped and held captive. She has no changes of clothes, she is roomed with a girl that asks daily to be killed because she just doesn't want to do it anymore. They have a bathroom that is filthy with no faucet on the sink or tub, and are only given the faucet to put on when their kidnappers decide they want them to not stink anymore. It is very heartbreaking reading the first half of the book. I really don't know how to explain the emotions I felt while reading it.
I will say that she manages to escape, in a way, but I'm not going to divulge exactly how that happens. You really just need to read the book, because the second half is what she goes through after she breaks free. Seriously, this book is... I want to say amazing, but feel that it is wrong because of the situation in the story. But it really is simply amazing.
I have to confess, Jessica Roscoe was completely new to me prior to reading Wombstone. If it weren't for my book blog, I probably never would've even heard of it. However, the blurb for this book was a HUGE selling point for me, and OMFG (yes, I actually said the letters in my head instead of what they represent), I am SO happy I read this book. Although devastated by the ending, I'm happy that it's not a standalone. Jessica Roscoe, you've joined my top 10 favorite authors with this work!
Mia, spunky high school rich girl, has the kind of snarky, kickass attitude that just grabs your attention and runs with it. Then, when she trips, falls, rolls down the precarious and rock infested decline, she takes you with her. At least that's how I felt throughout this entire book. Never a single dull moment in general, definitely never a moment that I didn't feel what she felt.
Then there's Ryan. Bad vamp. End of story. But wait, was that worry actually real? There's more to him; I can feel it. He intrigues me. He's definitely old and crusty, but I want to peel away his stinky onion layers and cry those ripe onion tears that only a freezer or fresh air can cure, just because on the inside, deep at his core, Ryan has a true heart that's simply been hidden under layers upon layers of gross, stinky, tainted years of undead life.
Yea, it's another vampire story. But it's got a fresh perspective, and it's really not your traditional bloodsucking concept. I like vamps, traditional or not. I REALLY like these life sucking vampies. I'm seriously stoked for the next book, but it doesn't look like it comes out 'til next year! Depressing. Jessica Roscoe, I, Rachel A Olson, book blogger and Indie author in my own right, am so going to cyber stalk you. (I don't bite, I promise.)
This book was such an exciting read that held my attention every time I turned a page. Mia is captured by a gang of vampires as their next victim to feed off of. They only take young girls because they taste the best. Despite the fact that these men are ruthless vampires Mia never gives up hope of possibly escaping. At one point she goes through so much pain and torture that she doesn't even care if she makes it out alive. Mia just wants to get out. Mia nearly does make it out by her own death, but Ryan turns her into a vampire so that she will live forever. Ryan has a soft spot for Mia and at first he doesn't know why. When Mia proves herself to be practically invincible no matter what the vampires do to her Ryan becomes admirable of her and very protective. Mia is a very strong female character and I really admired that. She fought her hardest to survive against the gang of vampires. Every time they knocked her down she always got back up no matter how beaten and bruised she was. When she became a vampire though she was no longer that girl. She wanted her life to end and didn't see a reason to stick around anymore. She would never grow old, have children, or die so, I can understand why, but I just missed that tough human girl that she was. Mia becomes even more distraught as more secrets and lies are unveiled before her. The story has a shocking twist to it. I'll be honest I did see it coming, but some of you won't. This was a nice fresh read on vampires and I highly recommend it to you vampire lovers out there!
Walking Dead Girl is book one in the Vampireland series by Jessica Roscoe. This is a young adult paranormal romance story.
I DNFed this at chapter 20. Something kept me going, but by this point I had had enough of Mia and her whining and feeling bad for her self and situation. Instead of learning, she just feels bad that she can’t go home. Also everyone including the adults and hundreds of year old vampires sounded like teenagers to me. As for Ryan, the one who kidnaps her and then turns her into a vampire, I could not understand why he cares or acts like her cares for Mia. The vampires in this story are dark. Their are a few good ones, but for the most part they seam like the bad guys.
This story was not my thing. I gave it a big try, but just to many other books to read to stick with one that does not work. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
I just found this so bloody miserable I had to ditch it. I really got over the whining really quickly (even though to some extent justified), totally tiresome. As a read it was just all too hard. I ended up skimming loads, and then gave it the big toss.
Don't think I'll be able to drag my self further from sanity by going for the next book.
Dude, this novel was so fucked up. Especially the ending. I mean trying to kill your baby, vampire or not.. what a bunch of bullshit. It just freaked me the fuck out.
(4.5 Stars) Like most of the other reviewers I found "Walking Dead Girl" to be one of the most unique vampire reads ever. For one a storyline featuring vampires mimicked feeling and actions I might have felt; yet, one small issue caused me to put the book down time and time again, the incessant whining of the main character. I wanted to tell through the pages of the book and tell her, "Bad things happen to good people now get over it."
Mia is having the time of her life. She just graduated from high school and waiting to her from colleges. She has a great best friend and a wonderful boyfriend. However, all of that changes when she is kidnapped in the parking lot at school.
Mila is whisked away to Mexico by a vampire named Ryan. This irritating s.o.b seems to take pleasure taunting her. Then, she sees the hopeless condition of another captive in a cell and begins to understand why this girl wants to die and although Mia despises Ryan he is not nearly the monster his boss, Caleb is.
After pissing off Caleb, he attacks Mia and brutally bites her. She refuses to be subjected to experiments and future bites; so, she jumps out of a window in an attempt to kill herself. She does die but Ryan swoops her up, turns her into a vampire and goes in hiding from Caleb. Why couldn't Ryan just let her remain dead? Now, she is a shadow of her former self and lives in fear of what Caleb will do to her family and friends not to mention what he will do with her.
Mila is not an ordinary vampire fledgling. She doesn't suffer the bloodlust and chaotic homicidal tendencies. Yet, she doesn't even begin to understand what else she will have to endure before her journey really can begin.
I struggled with Mia's whining for the first 67% of the book before the plot took an unexpected turn and kept me on the edge of my seat. This is definitely not your typical vampire book with a flowery and sappy love story. This is the rebirth of a character who is truly begins to come into her own. I really enjoyed this story and cannot wait to read book two.
New vampire book to add to your shelf or e-reader! I haven't read anything like it and I cannot see how anyone could compare it to other vampire stories. This is NOT a Twilight knock off!! It is NOT some teenage love triangle story!! Mia is NOT some loaner chick trying to blend into the world around her! Now to what this story IS... AWESOME! I love Mia, you can't help but love that tough persona! I laughed at many of her witty comments toward her captors. A great example is the excerpt you read. When her life is turned upside down in the blink of an eye she doesn't give up hope and holds strong to the fact that she will get to go back to the life that has been taken from her. Someone else though has other plans and some twisted ideas about her future. In this story you will find Vampires along with a couple other paranormals. It was tastefully written, with plenty to keep you on edge to know what will happen next. If I wasn't biting my nails to turn the page in anticipation I was laughing a Mia's comments! Now, If you are looking for a `Happily Ever After' ending, this isn't it. For me though it kept me hooked to the end yelling "Noooooooooooooo!" when the story stopped. I wanted more, but it did end at a perfect spot to start the next book coming in 2014 according to Jessica. Jessica, I will be waiting for book 2, and ready to snatch it up and continue on with this captivating story you have brought us! Thank you!
Holy crap! I came across this book during the crazy Valentine's Day sales. I didn't recognize the author but the book sounded awesome! After scrolling around a while I realized that Jessica Roscoe is freaking Lili St. Germain!! The kick ass author of the Gypsy Brother Series. (!!!!!!!)
Lili St. Germain writing about vampires! Can it get any better than that?? The answer is no, it can't. Buying the book was a no brainer, diving into the book immediately after buying it was also a no brainer. I didn't plan on finishing it today buuuuut I did. I should have none the ending would get me, I should have prepared myself for the ending because in true Lili fashion, the ending KILLED me! I literally stared at the last page for a good 10 minutes. I think I was in denial. Since then I have searched and searched for information on book 2 BUT I can't find anything! (Insert mini freak out and some dramatic crying).
Anywayy, this book was awesome. I honestly couldn't pry my eyes away from my kindle screen. This is my kind of vampire book, the way vampires should be written. Its dark, addicting and there's no happily every after, ride into the sunset. But that's okay because this is a book about vampires....:D
Also, Lili/Jessica, you're amazing and I will read anything you write.
While paranormal, vampire, were and all aren't my favorite, I sometimes find myself reading them as a diversion. I'm a big Lili St. Germain fan, having read all of her MC Seven Brothers series and am axiously awaiting Cartel. So, I thought I should try Walking Dead Girl. I start it and wonder why am I reading vampire stories, why am I doing this? My thoughts quickly shift and I'm saying to myself, "Damn it's 4AM and I don't want to stop reading, but my eyes are starting to shut quite involuntarily."
I click over to the next page, just when things are building and all Hell is breaking loose for Mia/Blake and darned if it's not a cliff hanger and damn if the next in the series isn't until 2015. It's only January 4th, so I'm going to be waiting! Arghhhh!!! You're killing me Lili!!!!!
I enjoyed reading this story, part 1 in "The Vampireland Series". Mia Blake is in the wrong place at the wrong time (or maybe not). There is some history in this story. Main characters Mia and Ryan don't have a great relationship throughout this story but they share a bond. Evie, Mia's best friend has a better chemistry with Ryan with some funny moments but unfortunately its not likely to last. A different storyline through the eyes of Mia who actually talks like a teenager/young adult rather than someone who has swallowed a dictionary, so well done to the Author. Unfortunately with all stories in a series this ended with a big cliff hanger so hopefully book 2 won't be too far off.
Still waiting for sequel to The Walking Dead girl written in 2013. Though no 2nd book was written the author instead of telling readers she has no second book titled The Vessel she continues to sting readers ago since 2013 actually 2012 while writing under the name Jessica Roscoe. She has written many books since 2015 as Jessica Salvatore and Lili St. Germain. She has rewritten this book a few times, even added new covers, changed author from Jesdica Roscoe to Jessica Salvatore to Lili St. Germain and changed titles. The title "Wombstone" is just another joke put on readers who read the original who hold out hope as author yet again stabbed them in back writing a completely different vampire series! Walking Dead girl book 1 went back up on Amazon again in 2017 with its newest book cover sucking in thousands of more readers from KindleUnlimited begging again like the original readers for the second book all over. Book had a new FaceBook account 2015, 2017, website, blog etc... I'm not sure if Lili St Germain uses this as a ego boost or what at this point she is doing. I would think a respectable author would stop using a 2013 book as bait to read all he other books while reader holds out waiting for a book 2 which will never ever come. But its 2019 stop stringing or sucking new gullible readers in waiting them to buy everything else you wrote while killing time for a book that since 2013 everyone else has waited on that's not ever going to get published.
This is about Mia, a young woman who is killed by a vampire and then turned into a vampire. She is taken to a place where an even younger girl is held hostage and has been horribly abused. Caleb is the main vampire behind all of this.
There's some really nasty stuff about Caleb's past. There's also another main character, Ryan, who has basically been put in charge of Mia. They end up in a very odd sort of relationship. All this time she is still trying to adjust to being a vampire and the problem of the bloodlust.
Evie is her best friend and comes to visit Mia. It turns out something considered totally impossible has happened to Mia which has made her situation even worse.
Unfortunately at the moment is seems there is no following novel which is a shame because its a rather harsh story but with very interesting people and no real conclusion to what has happened.
