This was a terrific read, an adult version of a "Boys' Own" story. Rollicking, at times taut, the story trundles along with a cast of characters for the main part quite believable. The hero, a quiet reserved type, handles his part with aplomb and credibility albeit stretched a little at times. As the endpiece says the incidents within all happened but have been combined into one person. A book of twists and turns and surprising incidents, I found that I used most of an afternoon furiously reading the last half of the book to discover how it was going to end. A great yarn and a good read. Recommended!!

Historical story based after 1st world war in the US, follows the lifes of two war hero's following the differant paths they take. Very Good period piece, Harry Bingham is one of the most underraed authors out there & certainly one of my favorites.

when I first started this book I didn't really think I would enjoy it. I could not have been more wrong! Fast paced, and twists and turns it kept me engrossed from start to finish

I really liked the Fiona Griffiths books. She's a great character. But here there doesn't seem to be the same passion, emotional heft. The two main characters get a short chapter in turn, the chapters end on a cliffhanger to keep you reading. But it all feels a bit formulaic, second hand.
