This book was even better than the first book in this series! It was developed amazingly and I loved the romance! I didn't think for a second that I would love this series as much as I did but it pretty much reminds me to never judge a book before I have read it! After the ending to Piercing the Fold I was really looking forward to reading this book and luckily I already had a copy of it! The plot of this book continues on from Piercing the Fold and again I did have to pay close attention to it to make sure that I understood it and that I was able to follow it! I really enjoyed the plot though and I loved how it had developed from the first book! It was again original as well! The characters again were amazing! Jesca really pushes herself in this book and she goes through a lot! Nate was perfect! I found myself loving him and his character so much as he was perfect for Jesca! I really enjoyed having Xander in this book more than what he was in the last one as he brought so much to the story and the plot! The love triangle heated up in this book and I loved it! I was really mad with who Jesca chose as I was rooting for the other guy but who knows what might happen in the next book! I really enjoyed Piercing the Fold being told from multiple point of views as well as I normally don't like books that do this but for this book it was essential! After the ending I am really looking forward to finding out where the next book in this series goes! The cover is also very pretty and it suits the first book in this series! Big thank you to Venessa for letting me Beta read Surfacing the Rim!

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the series, and it picks up right where the first left off. The upcoming battle between the Dobrians and the Sondians is getting closer and closer, along with the intersection of our galaxy with Andromeda. Jesca, Ezra, and Nate are gearing themselves up for everything, and things are starting to heat up, both in the outside world and between the linked partners. As Jesca and Nate work together, side by side, their feelings intensify, but are they the result of their manufactured link, or are they the real deal? And what about Xander, where does he fall with all this, in Jesca's life as well as the fight to save the world? You'll have to read it to find out!

I really enjoyed this story, and I thought it was a great continuation of the first book. We see more of Jesca and Nate and their growing relationship, from both points of view, but learn their doubts about their attraction and feelings for one another. We get more information about the fight between the two sides, what's going on with Sam and Corinna, and follow along with Xander in his quest to find out just who he is. The different points of view were a great idea, especially between Jesca, Nate, and Xander. It was interesting to see what each was thinking about the other and their upcoming mission to stop the Sondians. We also get more information from Balthazar's POV, which I thought really helped to further the plot and bring the whole issue together.

All-in-all, if you've read Piercing the Fold, you definitely need to read this one, and if you haven't, why not?? I'm already anxious for Book 3, especially after that ending! =)

This book was better than the first! It continues where Piercing the Fold left off and we get to see even more into this world of Dobrians and Sondians. Jesca develops even more into who she is and through this we get to see more of the whole story. I am sure that the series can only get better and better from here on out.

"Descend" is the second book on a four part series and picks up where Origin left off.
The team has located Xander in the mountains, and he is finally learning the truth regarding his family, his connection to the Dobriens, and his special abilities. It's discovered that Nate is not only linked to Jesca but also Xander, which is causing problems between the cousins as both are attracted to Jesca.
The Dobrian team is off to Japan to stop the opening of the worm hole by the Sondian cell before the intersection to prevent a global invasion of Earth.
This book has lots of action, secrets, and intrigue.

My Review:
Did I mention in book 1's review how much I loved the titles of these books? No? Well they are genius. I figured book one out quite early int he story, but this one had me for a bit before I got it. Genius. This author is just wonderful. This world created is even better than the first.

I LOVED that we got to see so much more of the characters we loved. I had an inkling that we would see them more come this book, but you never know. Some of book one threw me for a loop. All I really knew was that I wanted more Nate and Xander and I was determined to get it. Luckily I didn't have to wait long with this book because we dove right back into the exciting plot.

This book gives you far more in-depth information with the plot line. Or at least I thought it did. I felt that you really got to know the characters and that in doing that we fell in step with their journey to inevitably save our world.

Jes. She kinda drove me a little batty in this book. I wasn't sure what to do with her at some points: Shake her, Yell at her, Or hurt for her. She had some hard decisions to make and some hard stuff throw in her path to her destiny.

Really though the same goes for some of the others as well. Their lives got immensely complicated with the impending collision and with that they were all faced with hard decisions.

I though that all in all this book was even better than the first. It was another of those books I couldn't put down and had to finish in one sitting. Definitely worth the time and most certainly a perfect adventure. One Click away my friends.

Synopsis:
The impending galactic event that will invade and evolve our world is upon us and our salvation lies in the hands of Jesca and her fellowship of Dobrian guardians. The sadistic Sondian fellowship’s inhumane corruption of our world is spreading like wildfire, redrawing lines between allies and enemies. Jesca’s fortitude is put to the test when she must make crucial decisions in battle and in love. She must choose between the predestined link that she shares with one man and the unresolved attraction she holds for another.
Will Jesca have enough courage to surface the rim of this reality?

*The Piercing the Fold series is intended for Mature Young Adult and Adult readers due to the the paranormal and unorthodox scientific concepts addressed throughout. This series contains a rich mixture of the paranormal, science fiction, romance, adventure, and suspense. *

The universe is being torn by the intersection of two galaxies.

The world is being torn by those who are on opposite sides of an imminent invasion.

And Jesca’s world is being torn by the love of two men.

Ezra and the rest of the guardians are on high alert. The collision with the Andromeda galaxy will happen sooner than anyone thought, helped along by an attraction that the other worlds have towards something on this planet. Those who oppose Ezra and company are dead-set on the invasion happening. Their leader has his own agenda, stemming from an age-old jealousy.

Both sides are garnering soldiers in their own way. Jesca, Ezra, Xander, and Nate, along with their companions, train their people and remain honest with them and what they are involved in. Sam and Michael, part of the opposition, kidnap and use people to their own ends.

As the intersection draws near, Jesca, Nate, and Xander must put aside their own feelings for each other to concentrate on saving their planet.

A climactic battle at the base of Mount Fuji sends them all into the next stage of the battle. The outcome has yet to be decided, but rest assured that the guardians will do all in their power to keep the aliens at bay.

Ms. Kimball has done it again. What a fantastic story! Again, written in the present tense (except for memories) and from various points of view, the narrative plunges the reader directly into the action. It is like seeing a movie or watching a play.
Every gesture of the characters, every nuance, is deliberately and carefully placed to give the story a realness and color that makes them vividly come to life.

And continuity! I read this book several months and many books after reading “Piercing the Fold”, and had very little trouble getting right back into the story line. I read the end of “PTF” just to make sure I had the right story path, but it wasn’t all that necessary. (In fact, I got so engrossed in re-reading “PTF” that I almost didn’t read this book!)

The story line is a fantastic concept, and the back stories and side stories give it a complexity that make it all that more fun to read. Relationships, both scientifically-formulated and emotional, keep all the characters hopping–and the readers as well.

There is a third book, “Ascending the Veil”, coming out soon. It can’t get here soon enough, in my opinion!

This book picks up right where Piercing the Fold left off. The surprises the read meets in PtF are no longer a shock and even the characters are starting to adjust to some of them.
The writing style is consistant in this book and the reader won't have to worry about a sudden change in how the characters think or act.
This story has a bit more action in it and the reader will find old characters and some new in a ton of danger. Discoveries and realizations are made that will make the reader think and ponder.
I found no errors in the story and I eagerly await Ascending the Veil.
I give this book 5 of 5 paws

I received this Beta- Reader Copy from the author for free in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second novel in the Piercing the Fold series by the talented author Venessa Kimball. I really love the cover of this book. It has such a beautiful landscape and it shows where the Copula is implanted. If you want to know what that means you need to read the series lol.
This book was very well written, but it contained a lot of scientific talk that sometimes was over my head. Mostly about black holes and white holes. I found this instalment to be a little slower moving than the first book. But at the end it did pick up and moved quite fast. I also found that there wasn't as much action present as there was in Piercing the Fold. I didn't feel like too many of the questions that I had from the first book have been answered yet.
Character wise, I don't feel like the characters grew too much and there were a lot of characters present which made it hard for me to keep them straight and got confusing at times. I felt out of all of the characters Jesca showed the most growth, especially when she was faced with listening to others or going with her gut. She went with her gut and in the end it paid off for her. At one point, I thought that she had put an end to the love triangle and finally picked her man, but then later on Jesca said something that lead me to believed differently. She either she still doesn't know what she wants or she said what she said to not hurt feelings.
In general, this book has a great story line, I just couldn't give it a higher start because I enjoyed the first novel better. But I would still recommend it to sci-fi lovers and paranormal enthusiasts. I will most definitely continue the series to see where it is headed.
Note* Beta- Reader Copies are entrusted to the author's very close followers and fans.

I recently reviewed the first book in the series, and I liked it, but this one was even better. It was exciting and riveting and fast paced. I couldn’t help but want to turn the next page.
In the last book Jesca’s whole life changed when she found out she was a guardian who had to protect the world. She learned where she came from. In this book there is a battle coming and she has to help fight it. Will she be able to face her fears and be strong enough to face up to her enemies, and save the world? On a more personal note… She found out in the last book that she’s bonded to Nate, and she likes him and feels connected to him. But now she learns that maybe there connection might be out of their choice. Then there’s Xander. She thinks she might love him, but can she trust him, and could she be bonded to him as well? Is she strong enough to figure out what she really wants, and choose between them?
I really liked Jescas relationship with Ezra. I like where it’s going a lot. It’s kind of reminded me a bit of buffy and Giles, but it’s more real now that we know what their true relationship is. I really hope things work out there. (I won’t say what is worrying me, but I hope it works out for them.)
I felt like the last book took a while to get to the romance, but this book made up for it. There was a lot of romance and honestly guy wise I’m not sure who to root for. I like both Nate and Xander. It’s a tough one. And truthfully I think Jescas in the same boat as me. She doesn’t seem totally sure of her choice, so I think at this point it could go either way.
It’s an interesting book with a good group of characters. I really enjoyed this book, and I really can’t wait to read the next one.

Book 2 is way better than Book 1 for me. I'm guessing because I have read, Piercing the Fold Book 1. It helped me understand what the author's purpose of the mission between Dobria and Sondian. Made me familier with the characters. Jesca has two hot guys fighting over her. The link and bonds between Nate, Xander and Jesca are found. It will determine the guy she will be with. There is so much going on this book. I didn't get bored of reading (My dinner for the family was late and I stayed up way past midnight, I needed to know). Between Jesca's family, friends, enimies and love there is no time for her to think. She gets confused with all the new information she recieves. The learns the use of the Copula. Who can she trust? Ezra, Jesca's father, holds information from her. Even good old Mrs. Olivia has a secret of her own. Lucid dreams have Jesca on edge. They get stronger and more realisc. Ezra, Nate, Jesca and Xander are gaurdians. Their fate is to protect humans from the collison and intersection of their galaxy with Andromeda. Jesca, Ezra, Nate, Xander and there team tries to protect each other while trying to save a woman and her baby. Fighting 12 foot creatures. If the Dobra's fail their world could die. Do they get close enough to the wormhole to close it? I'm not telling. The end was incrediable and unpredictable. I cried for the team, in both happiness and sadness. How long do I have to wait for Book 3?

Jesca, Nate, and Ezra return in this second book of the Piercing the Fold series. They have a multi-fold mission this time, and a timeline that scares them for failure isn't an option. A world changing event is approaching and they have no idea how the change will affect humanity.
Kimball's tale of a group of Dobrian guardians protecting Earth from Sondians determined to consume humanity is captivating from the beginning. The personalities shift and meld into new friendships, show their determination to follow through with their mission, and are ready for anything – or so they believe.
There are surprises, moments of "I never saw that coming!" Mostly this is a tale of religion and science coming together taken to the next level. The scientific information is revealed in a way most teens will understand.
Venessa Kimball stretches her storytelling muscles in this latest installment far, and succeeds in Surfacing the Rim. The reader is immediately caught up in the suspense of will Jesca and Nate take their relationship to the next level, and will they be able to stop the collision of Earth and Andromeda? What effect will this collision have on humanity? Nothing is clear as the people we came to love in Piercing the Fold return to solve the next problem on their radar.

I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sides are being taken as a battle rise on the crest of the horizon. A battle some can describe as The Battle of Armageddon…..
The guardians are gearing up and new and old friends are being reunited to fight the enemy. Now here is the thing. Jeca’s, visions are becoming more vivid as well as disturbing providing the group with important information. Meanwhile Sam along with some unknown council have discovered away to bring the impending threat to Earth by means of high technology but that is not the only thing they have up their sleeves! Now during all of this Jeca as well as Nate learn some truth about themselves that will change thing significantly. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg as new discoveries of what lies ahead only verify that there is something beyond our world…
I will have to say that the Author has delivered an epic story that is exciting, thrilling and scary all at the same time because it holds so much truth to it and it really makes you think! My eyes were glued to the pages as I hung on every word! The thing is everything is just getting started so I feel like I am on an edge of a cliff leaving me breathless as I wait to find out what is going to happen in the next novel of the heart stopping series!!

This book takes off right after book one, Piercing the Fold. Jesca is back as are most of the other characters from the first book. Still reeling from her last adventure, Jes has to deal with her new powers as they are developing. Now that Jes and Nate are Linked to each other their powers will only intensify. Her nightmare visions have left, but will return now that she has left the training facility, and when they do, they will be doozies. Jes makes some all new discoveries in this installment, computer implants that strengthen their powers, betrayals, trying to figure out who she can trust, etc. In the end it will be up to her to save her friends and her world, can she do it? As a guardian, she has no choice but to try. I actually enjoyed this book more than the first as is often the case, I know the characters now and a lot of the technical background is already out of the way so you can concentrate more on the story itself. You have to feel bad for Jes, every time she thinks she knows, she finds out she has no idea. There is always some new revelation that sends her spinning, but she always bounces back because she doesn't have a choice. She's a strong female lead and she has good strong male characters around her even though she's unsure who she can trust sometimes. This was a fun read that kept me interested through the whole story. Waiting for the next book now.

Like book one this book caught me by the mouth and drug me in, where I sat buried deep in the suspenseful second book of Piercing the Fold series.
If anything this book was even better than the first, leaving my head reeling with each twist and turn, and causing me to almost cry out in anguish when I reached the cliffhanger at the end. Surfacing the Rim left me with so many questions, #1 being where is book three, and the rest, well I can only say one thing about those, Spoilers. Wink wink.
I love Venessa’s characters and how from the moment you meet them you dread anything bad happening to them, I also love the dynamic between her main characters. It’s not often that you find a book that makes the two guys vying for the Heroine’s eye, actually get along, I found this a very refreshing turn on the love triangle, not having the guys trying to kill each other. On that note, while it seems a lot of people go for the good boy in this, by the end of the book, I’ve decided that I am firmly on “Team Xander” and don’t foresee that changing any time soon.
I can’t wait for book three, and really I’m left speechless. This book was so wonderfully written, and usually I don’t rate a book by stars, but if I had to rate this one it would be five stars!

Let me start by saying I really loved the first book in this series and honestly did not think Kimball could top the job she had done on it, but I was wrong. Surfacing the Rim more than delivers on the promise of the first book, it exceeds it.

Jesca Gershon-Sera is again the main character, but Ezra, Nate and Xander all play significant roles in this book. Also, the Guardians are back together again to take on the opening of a wormhole between the Earth and the Andromeda galaxy as the two galaxies begin their collision. What will life be like on Earth after the event and how can the Guardians help to smooth the passage of humanity from the old to the new? This is a question Kimball makes you ponder as she brings the best elements of science-fiction and classic storytelling together in this phenomenal work.

I experienced every emotion imaginable while reading this book. At times I felt abject fear at what the Guardians were facing; at other times I felt love and a bittersweet sorrow; and finally, there were times when tears poured down my face and I cursed fate for being so cruel to Jesca and those she has come to care for.

An E-Copy of this book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

HOLY COW!!! Book two was better than the first!!! Piercing the Fold was an amazing book and it left me hanging… I finished it and jumped right into this one!! Wow!!!!! Once again, Venessa did not disappoint!! Leaving me with such suspense that I held my breath through a few scenes!! Jesca has to help in an upcoming battle to save the world!! Will she continue to feel and strengthen her bond with Nate? And what does Xander have to do with anything? She finds out in this book that she has no control over her bonds though … THAT threw me for a loop!!! Jesca second guesses herself a lot but all in all I love the way she handles everything!! The characters are very well defined and described and their charisma and chemistry is WELL enough to keep your turning pages to find out what is going to happen next!!!!

I give this book 5 out of 5 shields!!

I loved book 1 in this series and book 2 was a stellar addition to the 4 book series! It was action packed, full of insight and personal struggle and of course there was romance Even in the dire situations to defend earth from intergalactic threats, there is always room for love, otherwise why fight for our lives?!

I really enjoyed the further character development, the crazy imaginative fringe science that made my mind think and absorb reality as it is in the world the author created.

Honestly, this book is in a niche, but that doesn't mean you have to be a total science, fantasy geek like myself to enjoy it! The author explains everything you would need to know within the context of the book and the main characters who are learning all of it pretty much on the fly as the excitement heats up in book 2!

Bring on book 3 now please!

I was given a beta copy from the author to read and review, I am never paid for reviews.

Surfacing the Rim started right where Piercing the Fold left off. It consumed me so much I read it in one day. I felt as if I was living within the book. It is such a one of the kind storyline that has a little bit of something for everyone. During this installment Jesca is faced with a mission that in order to complete, she has to overcome many difficulties. You learn a lot about the history of the copula and family secrets as well. The suspense and details in it were fabulous. I loved how the book reminded me of the suspense in the House of Night Series and the love triangle in Twilight. Ahh love triangle team Nate or team Xander??..... I can't choose. Nate is so sweet and protective, yet Xander is just as sweet and the passion between Jes and him is like fire. I am still undecided, but leaning towards Xander! I am so looking forward to the third book and hope all of you get to experience this wonderful series!

This site is called Goodreads for a reason, it is about the good, the bad, and the downright ugly reads. I want to tell you about an EXCELLENT READ! Surfacing the Rim, book two in the Piercing the Fold series, is beyond good, it is stellar. The author has encompassed within her sequel novel more content, more character depth, and more talent than some authors, who shall remain unnamed (S. Meyers.). This novel is even better than book one in the series, and I think it is because there is so much more heart to the story now. In fact, the core component of the series to me is the energy that love contains and what can be done with that energy. I may be wrong, but that is my guess. We see so much happening in this chapter of the saga, that I am now very eager for the next edition to release........

Surfacing the Rim jumped right back into the story with Jesca and the guardians scrambling to get to the wormhole to shut it down before time runs out. And like having to save the world isn't hard enough Jesca's enemies are getting stronger and she is still trying to deal with Nate and Xander and the bond that is growing between the three of them.
I felt like the love triangle/bond got to be a little much as it dragged out a big portion of the book. But I do have to say the detail put into the science and theory that makes up the story is amazing if not a little scary to think about! When the action finally got started it got REALLY good and was so intense at some points I had to stop a few times so I could pull myself together just to keep reading. The author weaves a pretty fantastic tale and I am eager to see what happens next so in my opinion this book is recommended.

THAT ENDING. T_T Good thing I have all the books so I don't have to wait lol This was a good second installment to Origin, and I liked the way it still kept me interested. A little more action-based now that Jesca has an idea of where she comes from. I didn't mind the love triangle thing before, but now it's seriously bugging me! Mainly because I don't know who to choose or how to feel because as soon as one of them gets their own POV, I'm at a loss for words.

Writing style is still something to get used to, but it works. I like their conversations and the way it flows for me. Recommended read!

Being the sequel of another books means there's pressure to live up to. Surfacing the Rim not only lives up to the standard set by Piercing the Fold but surpasses it in many ways.

The characters are much richer and more complicated in this book. Jesca, also, realizes that who she thought she was romantically linked to, she is not. But she is romantically linked through love to the other linked to one she is linked to.

Venessa continues her style of heady but well done paranormal sci-fi that allows the reader to fully comprehend the physics stated in the book.

Wow! Book two was even better than the first. I have decided that I love that there are so many character POV's! It really pulls you into the story and keeps you there, in my opinion. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, you find out you were wrong. Lots of loving going on in this book! After the ending I am anxious to read the next one to see what's going to happen. Wonderful, wonderful job Venessa Kimball! Out of all the books I have read so far, yours have been my favorite!!!!! I can't wait to read what you come up with next!!!!.

While writing Surfacing the Rim: Book 2, I went through so many more emotions, dramas, romance, and passion with these characters. There is so much of a storyline there, that the series has been extended to 4 books.
Jesca grows deeper into her role as a guardian physically and emotionally from her acceptance in book 1, as do all of the characters. Book 3, Ascending the Veil, will be released September 2013. Book 4 (Title TBA) will be released Early 2014.

This book was better than the first. Surfacing the Rim starts out right where the first book ended. I enjoyed watching all of the characters grow and find out who they needed to be in this book, especially Jesca, Nate and Xander. I also enjoyed watching all of the relationships grow in this book also, finding out who they love and seeing Jesca and Ezra's father daughter bond grow. Surfacing the Rim is definitely gearing us up for the third book in the series and I cant wait to read it.

The second book in the Copula Chronicles takes off where book one left off and takes us further on the adventure of a lifetime as Jesca and the rest of the Dobrian guardians work together to stop the Sondians from destroying Earth and its inhabitants. Will they be able to keep them from acommplishing their mission? This story is a must read for anyone who likes a good adventure... Warning: this story does end with a cliffhanger as it is part of a 4-part series.

The second book in this series and I am so involved I catch myself holding my breath. I can't wait to start the next one. Intensely captivating is how I'd describe this book. I am eagerly waiting to see the return of beloved characters, hopefully. Surely! The idea that beyond this world is another world is an age old belief, however, this story adds a twist. Excellent! I received a free copy in exchange for an honest reviews.
