His Grandma always said he'd come to no good. Chances Are, she's right.
Meet Aaron "Chance" Dumont: "I'm Chance, this is my place. You want me; this is where you can find me." The problem with that, of course, was that it wasn't my name. My name was actually Aaron Dumont.
I picked up the name Chance as a kid when my grandma kept telling me "Chances are you'll come to no good, just like your pa." She had said it so often, it just kind of stuck. I've been Chance ever since. When she passed away and left me the remains of her estate, I sold everything but a few special items then invested it all in a nest egg for a rainy day.
I figured that's what she'd intended it for anyway. She'd said as soon as I joined the police force back in the eighties. "Chances are you'll come to no good there. It's a dangerous job and you're an accident waiting to happen."
Another Pulp Friction read...another Lee Brazil...another winner!! 4 stars and
This book and its sequels feature Aaron 'Chance' Dumont, his bar ('Chances Are', named after his gran...read the book, you'll understand why), what happened to make him leave the police force , his problems with men, and how he goes about alienating the one guy who really seems to care about him, poor Rory !! All I can say is Chance, grow a pair!!
Another in the Pulp Fiction group. Quick read, cliff hanger, but fascinating. Chance is the ex cop running a bar after he is injured in line of duty and Rory the rookie cop. Interesting dynamics going on, with Chance not wanting to get close to anyone after a bad relationship, but drawn to Rory none the less. Gritty, fun read, can't wait for next one.
I really wanted to give this more stars but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. For one its very short so its not really time to get to know Chance and secondly what I did get to know about him didn't really endear him to me much! I found him a bit contradictory and thought Rory should have just blew him off to be honest. Far from a bad read but not my favourite character in the Pulp Friction Series.
Another Pulp Friction story. This time we're in Chance's head... and it isn't a nice place at all. He is struggling with the ended relationship with his former boyfriend Cannon and letting a new man in his life isn't easy for Chance. But Rory, a rookie cop is determined to break down the walls around Chance's heart. Nice short story. Now on to book two. :)
Chance is such an asshole. He's so self centred and such a bastard with Rory. Rory on the other hand is adorable. I love him but I wish he would just dump Chance and find a loving man who would share his feelings. The 3 stars are for Rory and without Chance this novella would have been a 5 star for me..
This book was very different from the others in the Pulp Friction series by Laura Harner, T.A. Webb, Havan Fellows and Lee Brazil. Here, the author chose to focus on the MC, on his pain, his heartbreak, his issues and baggage vs the other stories which have an underlying mystery/suspense to them.
Chance is obviously really still struggling after his ended relationship with Cannon. But now there's Rory a rookie cop that Chance thinks maybe is worth seeing if there's something there to build on.
Definitely enjoyed it, although it could have been a little longer.
3.5 I quite enjoyed it and would be interested in continuing the series, though there seemed to be a lot of missing back story.
I don't really understand the whole Pulp fiction, four overlapping series thing but I simultaneously liked seeing the characters from Wicked Solutions and Triple Threat here and am annoyed at the chaotic reading order it creates. But I liked the story.
This is my third Pulp Friction 2013 series. I read the first two last summer and was surprised but pleased that they had elements in common. It wasn't until recently that I discovered the remaining two series. While I enjoyed reading the stories as they came out, now they are all available at once, as a set, and that's even nicer.
I understand that there is a time line, and the different series mesh. While it might be nicer to read them in chronological order, I have no regrets reading them series by series.
I was vaguely familiar with Chance from the previous series and am thoroughly enjoying getting to know him better. This promises to be another fun set of stories. Can't wait to start the next one!
A good set up for a series of shorts, definitely living up to the pulp tag. You get the feel of a dark bar, jaded synical ex-cop Chance. The keen and eager Rory, dodgy Gerry, troubled Darrin - and the enigmatic non-appearing Cannon Malloy, all interesting characters. Short but engaging first installment of a series. 3.5*
Liked surprisingly more than I expected. Not really into pulp fiction. I'm still not sure how I ended up with this story. Must have been a publisher sale, but I'm glad I read it. I was pulled in and sorry to see when it ended; Enough so that I bought the other four in the bundle. Hopefully it continues to be as good.
This is a XXX rated book...little did I know!!! I was a little shocked as I wasn't expecting this, however, the writing is fantastic. I was pulled into the emotions of the characters. This was a short story, not a full novel. I am always left wanting more with short stories. However, given how little time the writer had, the character development was quite deep.
In the beginning the writing style was a bit difficult to me, confusing. and my first impressions of the MCs is not good, Chance is an arrogant prick and Rory personality appears blurred.
Really liked Chance and Rory in this one. I loved that Chance was really just lost and wasn't even really aware he was. I like that he wasn't a jerk to Gerry, and gave him a second chance. That never really happens.
An easy read. I'm not a big fan of first POV but I knew it would be even before I bought it. I don't have much to say, I mean it was good and you got to know the characters but to get any real depth I guess you have to keep on reading and I probably will.
This shorty is some sort of a prequel. I can't even say it's a book, because let face it, it's not! This is short piece of a chapter, which is not worth the trouble of reading it.
TO GET OVER SOMEONE YOU LOVE, TO GET OVER THE HEARTBREAK,TO MOVE ON. CHANCE TRIES TO MOVE ON BUT HE CAN'T. THE GHOST OF CANNON LIVES WITH HIM. A MUST READ VERY GOOD BOOK.
