Four years ago Erin’s life changed drastically. Her drug-addicted brother killed her parents, and her marriage disintegrated. Her husband, Matt, an FBI agent, had done his duty when he’d arrested Stuart, but she’d been too caught up in her own grief to allow him to help her move through the shadows of pain.

Now Matt is back, but it isn’t to attempt reconciliation. Her brother has escaped from Attica, and Erin is his next target. Matt will stop Stuart by any means necessary. But Stuart is a desperate man, and desperate men will do anything to get what they want.

Thrown together by treacherous circumstances, Matt and Erin fight a battle to stay alive and possibly figure out how to put the pieces of their destroyed lives back together again.

A few weeks ago I was looking for a book to read, I was in the mood for an action, suspense romance. At once I thought of a book I had read a few months ago. But I couldn’t remember the authors name or the name of the book.

All I could recall was the intriguing storyline. FBI agent is still mourning his divorce. His wife left him because she couldn’t handle the fact, that he arrested her brother after killing their parents. She wanted to help her brother and not see him locked up.

Now 4 years later, Matt learns that Erin’s brother has escaped from prison and he is out to tract down and kill his sister. She did testify against him during his trial. She never came to visit him in jail, she just abandoned him.

Matt travels across the country to find his wife and do whatever he can to protect her.

You can imagine that Erin is not happy to see Matt when he walks into her coffee shop. As Matt tries to tell her about Stuart’s escape, she still doesn’t want to believe that her brother would ever harm her. She still believes that she can help him, change him. She can’t understand why Matt won’t help her. Matt struggles with her way of thinking, can’t understand how she could still stand beside her brother after what he had done. After all he was just doing his job as a FBI agent.

There are tons of hurts feeling between both these two, lots of misunderstandings. But the secrets that Matt and Erin are keeping, they both still love each other very much, each to stubborn to make the first move.

Will Matt be able to save Erin from her brother, will they finally tell each other how they really feel. Can they still have their HEA or will they go their separate ways once the case is over.

QUESTION….how can I remember all those details of a story, but for the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the book or the Author? Damn, I couldn’t even remember what the cover looked like.

So I finally turned to my FaceBook page leaving a post beseeching my friends for help. I gave a very brief description on the contents of the book. Within a few minutes, Ms. Rachel Carrington posted this message on my wall….

It sounds a lot like my book “Extreme Measures”. ….That you BETA read for me a few months ago. *red face* Oh GREAT...What a time for my memory to return.

No wonder I couldn’t find it in my Nook, or Goodreads, Amazon or B&N.
So yes, I HIGHLY recommend “Extreme Measure “and I’m quite sure I’ll never forget this book title or the Author ever again.

3.5 stars - A suspenseful thriller

When a man who was in prison for life for killing his parents breaks out to take care of the one thing he left unfinished and who he blames for deserting him in his time of need he goes on a killing spree across the states to get to his sister.

Matt and Erin were married when her brother killed their parents. Matt being an FBI agent arrested him when he showed up at their house right after the killings. Erin never forgave Matt and this led to the end of their marriage.

When Matt finds out Stuart has escaped he trust no one else to protect her even though he knows she hates him.

Now thrown together for her protection Erin has to not only fight to stay alive but she finally has to own up to her part in what went wrong all those years ago and how she wrongly treated Matt in her grief.

Erin had loved her husband, Matt, and in truth probably still does. But the destruction that the murder of her parents by her drug addicted brother left in her life, drove them apart. Now four years later Matt is suddenly back in her life again. Her brother has escaped from prison and is looking for Erin to pay her back for what he sees as her disloyalty. As an FBI agent, Matt is determined to protect her and convince her that now that time has passed, they can have a second chance to reclaim the love that was stolen from them.

Extreme Measures is just my kind of romance, two lovers trying to find their way back to each other with suspense from page one until the end! While not as long as I would have liked (I wanted MORE MORE MORE), I can’t help but Joyfully Recommend this gem to lovers of romantic suspense!

The past comes back to haunt a couple who thought they put it behind them years ago in Rachel Carrington's Extreme Measures.

Erin's life fell apart when her brother murdered her parents. In addition to losing her parents and the brother she once loved dearly, the murder investigation, trial and aftermath also led to her marriage ending. Though she never stopped loving her ex-husband and FBI agent Matt, she wanted a fresh start and didn't want to fix the severe damage done to their marriage.

Now, she needs her ex-husband's help again when her brother escapes from maximum security prison with his sights set on one thing: finding and killing Erin. Though he left her slip away once before, Matt is determined to keep her safe, even if being around her further hurts his still aching heart.

Together, they must try to stay alive and find her brother before more lives can be lost. And at the same time, they take a look at what tore them apart before and decide whether or not their feelings for each other are worth giving a life together another chance.

Filled with the action and suspense one would expect from a thriller, Extreme Measures did not disappoint in offering plenty of tension and drama that kept me turning the page. In addition to offering insights into Erin and Matt's minds, the story also tracked Stuart as he made his way toward his sister, which added an extra level of fear as I constantly wondered what horrible thing he might do next.

Another layer of tension came from the romantic history and lingering emotions between Matt and Erin. You could cut through it. Almost instantly, I felt a connection to Matt and Erin and had a cheering section going for them. I often found myself more concerned about whether or not these two kids would figure out their differences and get back together than worrying about getting Stuart off the streets.

At the same time, their failed marriage and the long-lasting pain it caused -- and still causes -- both of them added something else to this story: sadness. Their misery was apparent, and more than anything else, I wanted them to find a way to be happy together again no matter what.

I'm forever a sucker for second-chance romance, not to mention a fan of a solid mystery or thriller, and this book was the whole package.

A fast story and even quicker read, Extreme Measures was a solid blend of suspense and romance with plenty of twists and turns along the way.

I have read a number of books by Rachel Carrington and they have all come from different genres. They have all been unique and with each one, Rachel was able to captivate me right up to the final page. So it is not surprising to know that Rachel enthralled me with Extreme Measures as well.

Matt has always loved his ex-wife Erin, even though she divorced him after the murder of her parents by her brother. She has always been in his heart and when her brother escapes prison, he sees it as his duty to protect her. He travels to Erin’s home town to play bodyguard so that he can capture Stuart. Matt is a very noble person and takes his job in the FBI very seriously. Having Erin in front of him dredges up the past and his feelings for her. He will do anything to protect her whether she wants him to or not.

Erin pushed Matt away a long time ago and finds it hard to be in his presence again. All of her buried feelings are rising to the surface, the betrayal, loneliness and love. But she doesn’t want him back in her life and does everything she can to keep the distance between them. I think she was more in denial and she is also very stubborn. Matt was the one person in life that she was able to trust and she put the distance between them.

Stuart is one cold hearted nemesis and he had my stomach rolling immediately. He has a one track mind and will do anything he can to get to the end game. No one will be able to stop him and he is more than willing to illuminate anyone who stands in his way. I don’t think anyone can talk him out of what he wants and he is just nasty.

If Stuart hadn’t escaped I don’t think Matt and Erin would have ever crossed paths again, so it’s lucky for them that he did but also puts them under a lot of stress. They are drawn together under the circumstances and use this time together to re-evaluate their feelings and thoughts. The tension between the two characters is undeniable and I had my fingers crossed that they would be able to do it, without being killed by Stuart in the process. It was a fabulous story and I was on the edge of my seat until the very end!! Another marvellous book Rachel!!

I received a copy of this book for free from the author as part of a blog tour to provide an honest review.

The story began when Erin’s brother, Stuart broke out of the prison to look after Erin and kill her. Stuart held a grudge against Erin after she testified against him in court and abandoned him in prison. Then Matt, Erin’s ex-husband came to Charleston searching for Erin to warn her that Stuart escaped and provide her protection. But Erin wasn’t happy to see her ex-husband. She rejected his protection and believed that she Stuart wasn’t out there to kill her.

I haven’t read a suspense romance for a while and was happy when I received a copy to provide a review. It’s nice to read something different than I usually read once in a while. I love Matt and Erin. They’re obviously in love with each other after all the years, but too obstinate to say it out loud. I like Matt’s protective side and Erin’s stubbornness where she refused his protection. They’re both strong in their own way.

I definitely enjoy reading Extreme Measures. It is a short, light read that you could finish within a day. The plot was full of suspense, although a bit predictable some times. My favorite part was the little twist towards the end of the book. Wow!

I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories. I love past loves that have to deal with each other again and get back together. I don't know why, but they always make for some of my favorite stories. So right away, I was interested in this book. There was a lot of drama and it made me want to continue turning the pages. I read it in almost one sitting, even though it's over 200 pages. It's an easy read, but very satisfying. It's also very fast-paced. I wasn't ever bored while reading this. I loved the relationship between Matt and Erin. I also loved how strong Erin is, she's someone that I would hope I would be like in a situation like that, but I'm sure I wouldn't even be close. She's amazing. The parts with her brother, Stuart, are incredibly creepy, but they add a lot of realism to the story. You can get inside his head and see how messed up he is. I really enjoyed this story and I think that anyone who is a fan of romantic suspense will feel the same. There's a lot of heart-pounding action and it's quite an enjoyable read. :) Read the rest of this review here: Paperbacks and Frosting

This book has thrills, chills, mystery, mayhem, and a second chances to make it work. Erin's life was turned upside down four year's ago: her parents were murdered by her brother and to top it off, her husband (at the time) arrested her brother and put him in jail. Erin couldn't handle it anymore so she divorced her FBI husband Matt and tried to make a new life for herself. Now, her brother has escaped and is out to kill her. Matt is sent to protect the woman he still loves with all his heart, Erin. Rachel Carrington does a wonderful job of weaving the story line of the brother's revenge along with the feelings of hurt and love between Erin and Matt. You feel the emotional struggles of both of them throughout the story and are rooting for that second chance to happen. The book was faced paced and a page turner. I would highly recommend this book.

Extreme Measures is a "can't put it down book" , full of renewed romance between Matt & Erin, the 2 main characters. Rachel Carrington has cleverly included the suspense from the start, in a separate story which flows along side Matt & Erin's story until all the characters come together in the edge of your seat conclusion.
What I loved about this book is the obvious love between Matt & Erin and that the idea that second chances are very possible if people only talk honestly with each other.
This is an excellently written book that I highly recommend. I loved all of it and it will stay in my bookcase (or Kindle) to be read again and again.
I will defiantly be searching out more of Rachel's books to read.

Wow!!
Firstly I would like to say to Rachel Carrington, you have done it again, you've written a book where at times I forget to breathe!!
I don't want to give too much away, but if you love reading books with suspense, then you should give this a go. I love the way the main characters interact and the conversations they have are believable. I can't wait to see what Rachel writes next, hopefully I won't have to wait too long :)

When Erin's FBI ex-husband shows up in her coffee shop, she knows that it isn't good. She finds out her brother, who is in prison for life for killing their parents, has escaped and coming after her. Matt won't let her out of his sight. Did their divorce really end their love? When Stuart get's Erin, will Matt save her? Will there be a chance for a happy ever after for Erin and Matt?
