Malvoch’s machinations nearly cost the crew everything, and it’s about time somebody put a stop to them.
It’s been over a month since the assault on Rajak’s stronghold, and the crew has been hunting for a way to resurrect Esme. However, shortly after tracking down the last known location of a promising corporate scientist, Esme’s mother learns of her death and decides it’s time to step in.
Now, the crew will have to race against time in order to appease the goddess before they can travel to the hells to confront Malvoch directly.
Content Strong Profanity, casual violence, dark themes, kidnapping, torture, alcohol and drug use with a dragon, sexual situations, implied gender dysphoria, reluctant recreation, a distinct lack of piracy, flagrant abuse of bath toys, a severely hungover djinn, extreme sibling rivalry, vaguely defined romantic relationships, and over representation/normalization of gay and/or queer characters
Thea’s sister Esme needs to be resurrected or her mother Lilith will reek havoc on the world. Bryce and her crew are doing everything they can to help Thea get her sister back, even if this means going to Hel and Hades.
You are going to need to strap yourself in as this wild ride of a story carries on from book one in the series. Russell’s writing incorporates fantasy with mythology to create a space odyssey on steroids.
I highly recommend this series for an ultimate reading experience.

“Fugitive: A Guide to Becoming a Pirate Queen” by author Jayde Russell continues the space opera saga started in book one, “Executive: A Guide to Becoming a Pirate Queen”, and once again the author gives us an immersive adventure that will have you turning the pages!
I love all of the characters Jayde Russell has created. They are rich with personality and their actions, or reactions, fit just what you’d expect from that particular character. With one of the main characters, Thea, being a literal she devil, it isn’t surprising that we end up meeting a lot of very powerful gods and goddesses as we traverse several of the nine levels of hell. Thea wants to introduce Bryce to her family, and the head of the family is none other than Lilith!
As with the first book, I am just tongue tied with Jayde’s writing style and imagination. I sincerely believe these books would make an awesome series akin to “Firefly” or a movie like “Guardians of the Galaxy”. There is the same sort of exciting action and the camaraderie in their odd ball found family is heartwarming.
There’s lots of humor as well as impossible life threatening situations. I mean seriously, who would jump from one space ship onto another one while traveling faster than the speed of light? But Jayde makes it believable.
You do need to read book one, “Executive” before tackling “Fugitive” as these are not stand-alone novels. This is not a clean, feel good, cozy. But it isn’t all dark and sinister either. It’s a lighthearted space adventure that will capture your imagination and make you feel like you’re part of the crew. So grab a magical cutlass and climb aboard, there are fortunes to be had, and we’re behind schedule!
Trigger warnings: nudity, non explicit LGBT+Q sex, excessive drinking, torture, occasional swearing, fighting (both physical and magical)

This was… a wild ride. An incredibly fun one, but so fucking wild. It’s mostly on par with the first one, honestly: good writing, good characters, fun moments, awesome moments, emotional moments… pretty much the same vibe. It was a big relief, because the trend is for the second book to be worse, but I was just as invested, maybe even more so now that I’ve gotten attached to the characters.
The jumping from POV to POV can get kinda confusing, even more so when it goes to someone we’ve never seen before, or even when it goes to the bad guys, but it does bring an interesting perspective to the story.
I can’t wait for the third book. For real; Russell, you better be working on it because I need answers!!!
The crew is back and trying to figure out how to resurrect Esme before her mother finds out. Unfortunately they don't quite manage to do so, which means that before they can go on to their next step they have to find some way to make her happy. So they set out on their journey through the nine levels of hell to try to appease her. That also means that Thea has a chance to introduce Bryce to her family, including, scarily enough, Lilith herself. This book brings in some mythology to blend with the sci-fi and fantasy as we get to meet several gods and goddess along the way. It manages to follow the tradition of the first book and remains a lighthearted romp along the way, though.
There's a lot of action, and more characters to get to know as we continue to spend time with our characters from book 1. I love that it combines genres like SciFi and Fantasy but also Mythology in such interesting ways.
It's fast paced, and fun to read. You feel for the characters and the obstacles they are trying to overcome, where it often seems they knock one down only for two more to pop up! But as always with our incredulous heroes, they have the spirit and the talent to work through it.
I loved the found family vibes of the whole crew, and relationship between Bryce the Elven Mage, and Fallen Angel, Devil Woman, Thea.
These are long reads, so well worth the low purchase price in comparison to other books!

Even more fast-paced than the first book. Even more complications with even more banter. This is a wild ride across the universe and I'm not sure where they're going to stop!
