Mystic is an exciting new fantasy that transports readers to a wondrously inventive world, full of strange and enticing creatures. With an emphasis on friendship, inner strength, and overcoming adversity, this engrossing novel offers an adventurous journey of the heart.
The action scenes were really poorly written and as a whole this book felt very much like a “first” book. If the sequel had come out it would have been interesting to see if there was any improvement. There should have been at least 2 more editors on this project, though.
Everyone else who has rated this book seems to have enjoyed it, but it was all I could do to get through it. I don't hate it, it just wasn't for me.
My main problem with the book was the characters. The only character I can honestly say that I liked was Meesha. I was angry with Amelia from the start. She was mopey and miserable from the beginning of the book. While suddenly not being able to walk must be a traumatic experience, she could at least make an effort to have a good attitude about it. But she doesn't. She has an amazing, loyal, best friend, and yet she complains about being lonely and that no one will talk to her.
Another issue I had with it was the dialogue. I can't quite pinpoint what is was that I didn't like but pretty much anything the characters said made me cringe. Also every adult in the book seemed to have an overwhelming need to call Amelia "Child".
I'm not going to continue ranting. Like I said, I think many people will enjoy this book, it just wasn't something I could get into.
