Helen Cresswell (1934–2005) was an English television scriptwriter and author of more than 100 children's books, best known for comedy and supernatural fiction. Her most popular book series, Lizzie Dripping and The Bagthorpe Saga, were also the basis for television series.
First published in 1963 I would have been the same age as the youngest child in this book for children. I thought reading it may bring back memories of my childhood which it did. It was a enjoyable story of Jumbo and his gang trying to improve the village in which they lived. They had some good adventures during the summer holiday and could be let loose in a much safer world than now. This is a suitable read and one I recommend for any young child
