About the author

John Wesley is recognized as the founder of Methodism. An acclaimed preacher, Wesley travelled extensively on horseback and drew large crowds for his outdoor sermons. A contemporary of William Wilberforce, Wesley was a strong voice opposing slavery in England and the United States. His influence upon modern Christianity can be seen by the large number of Methodist organizations in the Wesleyan tradition all over the world.

It was a lot of reading, but interesting how his sermons were thought out

This is a monster of a book! It has a bit of most of the types of things John Wesley wrote, with a large number of sermons. There are well written reflection questions at the end of most of the writings that could be useful for primate meditation or in a small group. My main complaint about this book is that Wesley was edited to the point that much of the language is not actually his. It generally seems to be accurate updating of the language, but none-the-less is no longer Wesley's words. I would have been happier with text closer to the original published writings annotated to make the language accessible to contemporary readers.
