Ascendant, by Sean Ellis, is the first in the new Mira Raiden, Dark Trinity series. Based on legends of Atlantis, Sean Ellis has created an amazing adventure that spans from the South Pacific to New York, South America, and Tibet and follows an artifact called the Trinity.

Mira Raiden, psychic, ex-spy typically makes her living in Vegas. Although she makes a good living in Vegas, she does take the odd job. This particular odd job is helping a multimillionaire find a tomb believed to have belonged to a ruler of Atlantis that just so happens to house the Trinity. Walter Aimes is the man who had rescued her from the foster care system and “guided” her into the psychic spy profession. Detective Michelangelo DiLorenzo meets Mira after a robbery at the museum showing the Trinity, which is when Mira discovers the original is missing and a fake has be put in its place.

Mira, with the assistance of the detective, start following the clues and finds that there are is more to the story of Atlantis. And, it’s going to take all she has to save the world from the man who wants to use the Trinity to destroy the world.

In the best tradition of the Tomb Raider, Mira travels to exotic locations, battles mercenaries, zombies, and a giant monster. This story moves right along with little time to take a breath. If you enjoy stories that include adventure, archaeology, and a little bit of magic, this is a story for you. The 2nd in the series, Descendant, has just been released too. You might want to pick that one up at the same time.

This is an undiscovered gem that is packed with action and intrigue. The main character is a woman who is a combination of Scot Harvath (from the Brad Thor books) and Indiana Jones (from the movies). No one wants to get on this lady’s bad side. She fights her way across South America, New York City and the Himalayan Mountains.

While classified as a Mystery/Thriller/Suspense, I also enjoyed the book’s paranormal elements. Importantly, “Ascendant” is primarily intended for entertainment and listeners should leave their expectations for reality at home.

An excellent mix of adventure, action and the supernatural. It is great to see the lead character, Mira being so in control and not needing rescuing. I couldn't put it down, I am definitely looking forward to the next instalment

What an excellent adventure! This introduction to Mira Raiden, who is an ex-spy with psychic abilities, was an adventure filled romp with a whole lot of action. The ending left me ready to pick up the next book to continue the adventure, which incidentally I am about to begin!

An adventure story that has a little bit of everything. Love zombies? Got it! Lost cities? Check! Paranormal? Covered!
I really enjoyed the fresh take on the Atlantis theme, something I hope is expanded in future novels.
Get the book and just enjoy the ride.
