An 8-year old girl in Thailand is crippled by badly burned feet. She's sent to a hospital and gets much more than the new toes to help her run and play again.
This book is from Sonlight P4/5 2010. The kids were too young for the content of this book at that time. We just read it today and the kids and I really liked it. Glad Hailey had told us to wait on this one.
This is the brief account of a girl named Tia. Tia burned her feet when she was four- so bad that her toes fused together and made her look like a leper. It was painful for her to walk, and the other kids teased her relentlessly. Her whole world changed when missionaries came to her village, speaking of a man called Jesus who could heal her.
Based on true events, “New Toes for Tia” is a sweet and happy tale that young readers can enjoy on their own. It gives a good general look at the Gospel message, and emphasized the miraculous, and God’s love for all people.
Good book on missionary work (from a while ago) in Thailand.
The book is great in that it not only gives the narrative of Tia's toes being transformed from basically leprous to as good as new, but it shows the dramatic transformation of her relationship with her family and her family with the Lord.
This is an excellent biographical story that I have several times been able to read to even young children, and have them understand how much God loves us. He cares, and sometimes there are effective medical treatments for issues such as Tia's in the story. Recommended!
This book was part of our Pre-K curriculum with Sonlight this year as part of our cultural studies. Lillian really enjoyed me reading this book to her. It is a neat story about Tia and her getting new toes. I enjoy learning about Thai culture and finding out what Thai means. It is a short easy read that can be read in about 15 minutes, but is a powerful story.
Second Review: This is a fun book that explores the battle of coming to faith in Jesus in a culture that is Buddhist and Animist through a challenge. Tia had a childhood accident burning her toes, making it hard to walk and live life as she had before. Her family learns about a hospital that could help, but they're afraid. Follow Tia as she gets her new toes.
I love New Toes for Tia! I read it to my 5-year-old son last week, and he loved it, too. It is a delightful story for young children about the love that God’s people show for other people.
I enjoyed the story of hope and redemption. This is the second time we have read this and my children are a little older, and they enjoyed it a lot more and were able to follow the storyline better. My son kept saying the book about the toe girl. :)
This book shows what god can do for you. The story of how Tia got new toes is nice, she learns about god and how he saved her and everyone in the world because he died on the cross. I really like this book!
