Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, the crap really hits the fan.
Now what? How do you clear up a mess as big as this?
Is there any coming back from absolute chaos?
I have to believe in hope. I have to believe in my love for Death, for a future beyond this pain and drama.
But why does hope feel like such a foolish dream at this point?
Damn.
An ending is coming…
I just hope I survive it.
Get ready for the grand finale! Death Undone is the fourth and final book in an M/M Paranormal Urban Fantasy Romance series packed with mystery, danger, a knitting necromancer, a delectable immortal being, plenty of sizzle, and rather disgusting liquid mushrooms.
Richard Amos is an author from England who is constantly lost in the worlds he writes about, and the ones in the queue yet to be written. He also has more books in his house than anything else, and is never without a book (and chocolate) in his hands when he's not writing. He’s a proud nerd who loves to dance. Hard.
Richard writes M/M Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, and Paranormal Romance, all with tons of kick-ass action, adventure, twisty plots, and yummy times.
The ending has a bittersweet quality to it. But for a change, and unlike other series of Richard that I've read, this one felt more sweet than bitter. There's hope for a good life for Marcel and Death and I like it
Keep the tissues handy, you’re going to need them. This was the ending I didn’t realize I needed to this series. I had kind of thought that it might go in a different direction, but this was so much better. Marcel and Death definitely have their work cut out for them getting any kind of Happily Ever After, but when all was said and done, this was the perfect way to close out their story. My only problem is that I don’t want to let them go now that it’s over. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author.
Talk about an age gap. I just couldn’t get it out of my head that he’s this all powerful being as old as the universe in love with a mortal no matter how many lives the mortal had lived.
But the story was entertaining, pretty much nonstop action with brief interludes for sex and angst. Sometimes it felt like it was just action for action’s sake but the author has a knack for getting the good guys into impossible situations and rescuing them at the very last second or even beyond. This made for excellent suspense.
The characters were intriguing, many of them likable, many despicable. There were secondary dramas and one brought me close to tears. It upset me so much I wanted it to be undone as things are supposed to in fantasy.
I still have a love/hate feeling for the MCs. They were both so incredibly selfish in the first book and partway into the second and it hurt countless, maybe tens of thousands, maybe millions, maybe more. So while I felt for them, it took a while for me to get on board and even then I was stuck on the age thing.
The ending was predictable, although when I think about it, there were a couple other ways it could have gone. It left me unsettled, unsure how I feel, although not necessarily in a bad way. It definitely did its best to pull on the heartstrings and it did a little near the end. I think I liked how things turned out. I’m glad there isn’t another because I’m tired of the cliffhangers.
I’d read other stuff by this author if I was assured there were no cliffhangers, at least none that lasted through four books.
The narrator, Cooper North, is amazing. He did many voices and accents well. His range of emotions was stellar. Everything sounded right—I was never pulled from the story by some weird pronunciation or emphasis at the wrong part of a sentence. Fabulous.
‘I met Death for the first time in the street near to my house. He looked the same as he did now, those amazing golden eyes a constant splendor across the centuries. He stood there in the sunlight, bare-chested, his bronze skin a shimmering temptation, instantly waking up so many sleeping desires. From that very first meeting, I knew I wanted him, and not just in the physical sense. The stars and planets aligned, telling us we were meant to be together.’
The forth book in Richard Amos’ amazing Necromancer Rising series, Death Undone, continues Marcel and Death’s love affair, where Marcel has become False Death, while Death himself continues to search for his Death stone- which should return his original powers.
Characters we have previously met, both good and evil, rejoin this adventure that has paranormals, ghosts, and others exchanging powers are fighting to take over powerful forces that could change the world.
Richard, once agin, brings us a fantasy that burns like fire for readers, as I had to read this book in one sitting! I loved the challenges that Marcel and Death has to endure from their curse, starting in Pompeii.
I’ve enjoyed this series and am going to miss Marcel and Death. They’ve gone through so much to get their HEA which is lifetimes overdue. As I would expect from this author, the worldbuilding is detailed and fabulous, and the characters have quirks that make them feel very real. I love the idea of a necromancer who loves knitting!
I liked how getting rid of one problem didn’t solve everything else, and how, although this is Death and Marcel’s story, it’s very much an ensemble piece. These two don’t get a break with the action keeping up until almost the end, and even then wondering if they’re going to ever be together.
There are a lot of twists and turns in this final installment with the big bad taking everyone working together to bring down. I liked how the ending is bittersweet with both Death and Marcel having to say goodbye to loved ones. Their HEA hasn’t come without cost.
Winnie totally rocks. She doesn’t take any rubbish from anyone, and is a brilliant friend. I enjoyed reading some scenes from Leon’s perspective. He’s been through a lot too with his manipulative husband. I loved the twist of what Nick’s source of power is.
Marcel and Death’s final scene is very sweet, and well deserved.
"Death Undone" is the final book in the "Necromancer Rising" series, and I don't think I've ever read a series with that many twists and turns as this one... Seriously, looking back at how it all started, it is massive how much happened in only four books. Even this final book is filled with action upon action, and multiple twists I didn't see coming. I wasn't even sure there was going to be a HEA with how the story evolved, but luckily I could leave Marcel and Death with a happy and resolved feeling.
So yeah, "Death Undone" is an action-filled finale with so much happening I was happy the ending of the book helped me get my adrenaline down slowly. I really admire this author's imagination, coming up with plenty of original storylines I couldn't dream of thinking about myself, and combining them together to create an amazing storyline. If you like paranormal MM series, this is definitely an author to recommend.
Finale to a great series from Richard Amos With one of the main protagonists named 'Death', one knows this isn't a typical whimsical story. This story is the final installment of Amos's Necromancer Rising series. We follow Death and his companion, Marcel, as they fight to stay alive, stay together and stay sane. While the story rolls to a great conclusion, readers are treated to an amazing series of great, great scenes throughout the story. Literally, right up to the end. The author gives a great, if not somewhat unexpected finish to the tale of these great characters and their supporting cast of allies, enemies and frenemies. Wonderful dialog, story evolution, humor, sadness at times - in short, it's a story full of great heart. This is not a standalone read - it's really gotta be read in squence with the first three books of the series. It's very worthwhile to do so. Enjoy the ride!
Death Undone, the fourth and final Book in the Necromancer Rising series by Richard Amos was everything we needed it to be and more! Packed full of emotions, angsty and steamy goodness galore this MM paranormal will definitely take you a ride! Amos never ceases to amaze me with his fabulous world building and captivating storylines full of charismatic characters and twists and turns galore and this one is no exception.
This is the final strip in Marcel and Death’s story and man was it perfection! After everything they’ve gone through in the past, the final battle is now ahead with enemies everywhere ready to take them out—so the question is, can they survive it all or are they forever doomed?
If you love MM romances full of nonstop drama and action, emotional angst and tensions galore this is the one for you! Just be warned this is one emotional intense ride with loss along the waySo be prepared to feel this one! But don’t worry, it’s worth the ride!
I didn’t review all of these since I finished them all with in a week. So I wanted to give overall review. This was not the story I was expecting when I first started. It was way better. Death (Stunning golden eyed man) and a Mortal man stuck in a curse that caused natural disasters whenever they found each other in every lifetime, which since doing the math was over 66 lives. If Marcel made it to at least 25 years old. I love how he got to remember his old lives no matter the sadness that followed. Makes you know that Death was definitely his true love! ( I know his past lives were not super relevant but I’d have loved to have heard who he was in more of his past lives. )
This book rapped up everything you were curious about in the past books, with bittersweet ending, generally good for our star crossed lovers. I am a sucker for the supernatural and epic loves and let’s just say it, steamy sex scenes!
Death Undone by Richard Amos is book four in the Necromancer Rising Series. This is the final book in the series and oh my… what a journey has this been. The author did a fantastic job constantly keeping me on the edge of my seat. I devoured this book. I needed to know how everything was going to play out. I couldn’t put my kindle down. Marcel and Death have been through so much and I wasn’t sure how it was going to go and if they would have a happily ever after. I must say after all the twists and turns this book did, hands down an amazing read. I was wringing my hands with my nerves with what could happen next. The ending was really well done not that I expected anything less from Richard Amos. Amazing book and a fantastic series… I highly recommend it.
The release of the last book in a gripping series is always so exciting. In this series, I fell in love not only with MCs but also with several supporting characters. I adored Marcel's family , and the nickname Mon Papillion is so endearing! For the last instalment, Richard Amos has prepared more action, more challenges, and life-theatening situations for Marcel and Death: in fact, the book is so full of them that you don't have any time to relax. But after all twists and turns of the plot, in the end, I'm happy with the outcome. The story ended exactly the way it should, and I closed the book a happy girl smiling and crying a little - after all the emotional roller coaster, the author led us through. It was so worth it. I highly recommend this series for urban fantasy lovers. It has a spectacular story, an amazingly built world, and is artfully written.
Death Undone is the fourth and final book in this series, and while it is a touch slow at times, it is still a gripping book. Marcel and Death are back. The Whisper is wrecking havoc everywhere with the intent to destroy. It's taking Marcel apart a piece at a time. Reducing him down to bare bones. Death refuses to find his stone until the Whisper has been dealt with. What does that mean? Well, it means that some unsteady alliances will have to be made. Tenuous at best. What will happen with Marcel and Death? Everything is chaotic, but prepare for some serious jaw-drops. Secrets will come to light and they will pull you to the edge of your seat! This book gives a fitting ending to these two characters' story. It's a mixed good-bye. I loved this series, and am sad to see them go, but it all (mostly) works out in the end. 5 out of 5 stars
I had a great time listening to this series. The narration is performed well, and the story is engaging. The overarching plot was interesting, but I think the final chapter was a tiny bit anticlimactic. I wanted something more sensational from a story that had so much emotional upheaval. The final resolution also seemed unbalanced to me. Life needs a counter and I want to know why Marcel's brother was so obsessed with Resident Evil 4. I don't play zombie games because of the horrible nightmares I have. How is this game relevant to the book?
I wouldn't mind another book in this series. I want to see what happens to the rest of the necromancers in the future. I definitely want more of Cooper North's narration.
This was not the ending I was expecting but I thought it really wrapped up the series in a fulfilling way. I LOVED Winnie's arc on this story. It was totally unexpected! I think I also found a lot of satisfaction in Robert and in Leon and Nick's stories as well. In the beginning of this book, I felt like there were a ton of characters to focus on and remember details for, and the way this book evolved helped to condense that and really embellished Marcel and Death's story. I related a lot to Marcel, especially at the very end of the book. Those feelings....I was kind of crushed for him for a bit there.
In the last book of the series, Marcel and Death have to face the chaos and challenges brought by all of their enemies. The curse might be broken, but Nick is still scheming and running around, the Whisper is wreaking havoc on the earth, and the necro madness is spreading. Oh, and let's not forget Robert, he also did not say his last word yet. There magic is acting out, old abilities disappearing and new being created, mythological elements are threading through the plot, and our star-crossed lovers are on the path to discovery whether their love really is so strong and so fated, or it was all an illusion thanks to the curse acting out for ages.. The chaos thrives in all the action in the book, emotions are going haywire, and relationship drama gets a new meaning when reading this book, but I am so glad to be able to accompany Marcel and his beloved on their journey till the very last page.
This one was …… ok? I can’t really put my finger on it I just didn’t love this book , there was a lot of action. . . But almost too much action? It sort of felt like the book version of that dog video where the voice over is like “I’m dead! I’m alive! I’m watching TV” over a video of a dog having the zoomies . . . Except I was the dog and the book was the zoomies
And there aren’t really spoilers in this review, I just don’t want to accidentally yuck someone’s yum. If you super loved this book and everything about it? SO great for you! I honestly love that. I just didn’t find all the love for this book and that’s ok 👍🏻
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I really like Marcel and Death, and I’m sorry to see this last book in the series. They have tried so hard to be together, and there is just so much they have to overcome. In this latest, they are dealing with the lich, Robert’s hatred for Marcel, Winnie’s emergence as something else, and The Whisper. There is so much going on in this series-ender, and I enjoyed the ride. I was sad about something in this one, and I can’t say much about it, but I was a little heartbroken. However, the good more than outweighed the bad. Nicely done! Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
This final book's plot delivers all the goods in a very intense fashion! Though Death travels a hard trek Marcel carries on his human shoulders the bulk of evil retribution from Nickolas, Watcher, and the little blue devil in this last book. This author has again spun a terrific tale of Death, life, love of family, both natural, Jenn, supernatural, Winnie for sure, friends, (their loss), AND such unimaginably evil foes. The price Death paid for love caught this unsuspecting reader totally by surprise as to how the HEA completed the series.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end. Death Undone brings to an end Richard Amos’ tale of life, love and, well, death. After everything Death and Marcel have been through to be together, I wanted them to ride off into the sunset together, but there was still so much for them to overcome in this last book. Filled with surprising twists and turns that kept me turning the page long after I should have gone to sleep, Death Undone is a satisfying conclusion to this series and definitely worth the heartache along the way.
This is the final book in the series and it has been emotional ride. Marcel and Death have gone through so much, through so many lives and it all comes down to this. This book it nonstop action, with multiple enemies ready to strike. There will be losses along the way, some harder to take than others. The ending tore me up a bit and tissues were needed. The ending left me a bit conflicted but bottom line, it's a good ending for these star-crossed lovers and that is really all we can ask for. It was a great read and a good ending.
Richard brings us to the fantabulous finale of the Necromancer Rising series! The story of Marcel and Death continues from the wicked cliffhanger of the previous book and immediately launches into a wild rollercoaster ride of emotions, events and unexpected twists and turns that keep you glued to the story from beginning to end! This book is so very well written with complex characters and plot twists that keep you guessing throughout. I loved reading this book and highly recommend the series! Don't miss out on this series!!
I enjoyed the series. A bit too much crying for my liking, but enjoyed nonetheless. Death and Marcel’s journey was not an easy one and their HEA was not without its challenges. I liked that the author did not go through and easy solution ending to the villains and making the MCs powerhouses able to do everything. The changes in their power made sense and let them be together. What I’m curious is whereas we will see a Leon book in the future to give him a much deserved HEA after having to deal with his toxic husband.
This was a fantastic ending to Marcel and Death's story, life after life they were denied each other but their fight finally paid off. That meeting between Death and Winnie reminded me of the Doctor Who episode "The Doctor's Wife", I enjoyed seeing them interact. Marcel and Death took me on one last roller-coaster ride and I enjoyed every minute of it.
