The book takes the shape of a first-person narrative, which gives it an accessible, personal style rarely found in textbooks. Students will have no difficulty with comprehension.

It is a very easy read -- written as a first-person narrative, from the perspective of the author (Phil Tompkins) who consulted on communication issues with Werhner von Braun and NASA at the Marshall Space Flight Center. The book follows NASA from the launch of the first Saturn rocket up through the Challenger disaster.
The book’s appendix also has a nice summary/discussion of organizational and communication problems that led to the Kent State Tragedy (Tompkins was a professor at Kent State during the National Guard incident).
Pretty unfortunate title for a book that's actually interesting. Even if you're not into the space program or communication theory - but just find it interesting to read about the effects of small, cultural habits on an organization.
A text-book used in the final year for my communication degree. I'm old enough to remember the race for space and in some ways this was historical; yet in context was a great example and look how an organization's culture can evolve and can be changed by events and personalities.
Tompkins' narrative style kept me interested in this book along with many interesting anecdotes as he explained NASA's organizational structure and how organizational forgetting led to the Challenger accident.
