A light read. It's amazing how this writer can plop 4 white people down on an island with 600+ natives, and the natives are practically invisible, but this we're dealing with Germany in the early 20th-century. Courths-Mahler is fascinating if you're interested in literary sociology and colonization, but I can enjoy this kind of writing only in limited doses.
