Val is a young girl who is loving the season of winter and is excited for Christmas. Val and her friends love to hang out after school. They walk to her fathers office at the vet. They overherd one of the women in there talking about killing the deer species. Val was furious because she loves animals. Her and her friends take a stand to try and stop citizens from hunting deer. Will her friends keep their promise and help Val? Read the book to find out!!!
Nice cover, huh? Too bad it had basically nothing to do with the actual story inside of that nice cover. There is never any instance of anyone making a snowman while a doe is walking around with a Christmas wreath around her neck. Man, when I finished this book I was disappointed. I wanted to know how in the heck they managed to get a Christmas wreath around the neck of a wild deer.
Another major disappointment was the story. It began well by showing the problems central Pennsylvania has with the overpopulation of whitetail deer. And then suddenly the deer story line went bye-byes and degenerated into a family squabble because widowed Dr. Dad wants to remarry. The thing I liked about the Animal Inn series and started to buy the books was because of the emphasis on animals. Unfortunately, there is hardly any animal action here.
Also, back to the misleading cover -- it states "Who would want to hurt a helpless doe?" which kind of hints that the shooter is revealed. This never happens. Argh!
