Spoiler-free review
I freaking LOVE this series! But why was I a dumbass and read these nouvellas out of order with the trilogy? DO NOT MAKE THAT MISTAKE. .
This series is all about anticipation, mystery and suspense so if you go out of order or read reviews ahead, it will seriously take away what's so awesome about it....the NOT knowing! So, read in order and don't read reviews for upcoming nouvellas and books! Ya gotta experience the events as they come. Many reviews are 100% spoilers on the big secret..... I totally see why Starz pick this series up for TV!
So, when I figured out I totally flubbed reading in order I felt a bit.....
But seriously, the journals are a totally different side story to the Inside Out Trilogy BUT a huge spoiler is in Being Me so read your nouvellas! Love love love Rebecca's story. She's a natural submissive but intensely afraid of losing total control to a man who can't give her what she wants most......LOVE. Why can't he be both? Master and lover?

Ummm , tell me why did I read this ?!
Okay , so my first thoughts about why these novella's were important was that they'll help us understand more about Rebecca . In reality , they do help us that way . And to put it simply she kinda pissed me off with her diddle daddle . She wants it and then she doesn't want it !
But what made up for her unsure state of mind was her 'MASTER' ... Damn , I think I know who he is ... Like , I'm almost 98% percent sure I know who has that sort of a pull on her . And for some strange reason I really thought she'll reveal his name . But dangit ! She didn't ! And if it turns out to be who I think it is , then I must admit Rebecca or should I say the author has adopted a very intelligent way of reading the journal .
I think I'll just leave it to that . Lets just hope that some of the answer that I've locked up in my head since
are answered in

How It All Started…
One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expired.
Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. "He is an addiction, and addictions are never good for you. He's taking me deeper into his world, deeper in his dark desires, but I'm never able to get behind the physical aspect of our relationship. I just lose more of who I am."
Rebecca started this journey is hopes of finding herself and in the end, she might have lost. I absolutely loved this insight into Rebecca and her Master. I cannot wait to find out who "he" actually is and what happened to her. All I know now for sure is, she is in a darker place than she ever imagined...I want to know if she can truly handle the depths HE is taking her?

GAH! Still not one step closer to knowing anything! Although we get a few hints that might just throw us off his trail.
Rebecca has fallen for her Master, but he still can only deliver the D/s boundaries of a relationship. This makes her decisions painful and yet simple. She wants him - but she wants all of him. But now we are at the end of the Lost Journals and are heading back to that storage locker and Sara.
I just want to skip to the last chapter so badly at this point. LRJ sure has kept everything tightly under wraps, not giving anything away.

So these are last two installments of Rebecca’s journals. All four journals should be read in between If I Were You and Being Me. All four journals are really short, but very well written. There’s no doubting the talent of this Author.
The tone of the journals is definitely getting darker and dare I say it downright scary. It’s as if we are just waiting for those dreams to bleed into reality for Rebecca. Still so many secrets and so many questions to be answered. However, we feel the real struggle that Rebecca goes through. Saving her independence and her free will, save herself, as opposed to signing it all away by becoming her Master’s submissive. A Master we do not at this point know the identity of.
We learn more about who the Master is, by descriptive traits and clues woven through Rebecca’s diary entries. In my opinion Volume 4 is the best one. On one hand we see a side of the Master that humanises him. He cares, he wants to protect, and he wants Rebecca to be fully aware of what her actions mean and not to go lightly. The way he speaks to her at times like after one of her nightmares, you really feel the connection. Oh and those nightmares….premonition of what will happen?
Then on the other hand his actions and intentions become darker and more intense. Scenes of utter detachment and dis-regard as if he’s trying to push away any feelings he may be developing.
As a reader we get the full hit of emotion and feel Rebecca’s fear, anxiety, lust and passion. Her dilemma is clear as we play detective trying to find out who the elusive Master is whilst agonising with Rebecca over that important decision. Does she sign or not and what really happened?
The end made me feel really morose and I think I know who the Master is so I’m straight onto Being Me now to see if I’m proven right!!

We’re now several months down the line with Rebecca and her Master – they’ve renewed their contract several times and that time has come around again.
Rebecca’s falling ever deeper in love with her Master but she knows he sees her just as a submissive and she feels herself spiralling into an abyss of darkness, losing control. Now it’s time to make a decision.
I have to say that even those these novellas are very sensual, you learn very little to add to what you already know if you’ve read If I Were You. Nothing is actually revealed – not the identity of her Master or where she has disappeared to or why. I don’t feel that I’ve gained any real insights into the greater story and I’m just as in the dark as I was when I started. I guess I should have expected this – Sara has read these journals and she doesn’t know anything either and we only got as much knowledge as she has.
I guess I understand the need not to spoil the plot before the release of Being Me but I feel a little disappointed, it’s all a little anti-climactic. I guess I thought, that after reading all four, I would have learned a little more.
Ack well, I’m still very much looking forward to Being Me but not reading these novellas, won’t impact on your enjoyment of that trilogy.

This volume begins more than a year after the end of the last volume and already you can sense Rebecca's heartache. The reader can really see how she has changed since she's discovered herself again and she worries that this relationship is not enough. She love master but does he love her? That's something I have been questioning myself but more so the answer to who "master" really is is killing me and it keeps me reading and wanting more of this story. I wish Rebecca would just own it. Be confident in her time with her "Master." Who I still don't know the identity. I'm now forcing myself to continue but we really should've known by now. The great writing is what keeps me going, but I don't know how much longer.

Ok by this time, even if you havent read all the journals. (Which are short so you have no excuse. :) ) You know from the titles along that Rebecca has signed the contract with the Master. We have watched her though her journal entries come to see what this world she is being led into is and have watched her try to figure out if she belongs there.
She loves her Master, but does he love her, and we still dont know who "he" is. The author has done a great job keeping his identity a secret. We all have our suspicions by this point but it is still a mystery as big as what happened to Rebecca.
In this installment, we see Rebecca trying to decide if she should stay in this world or go back to being the girl she was before she discovered this new world. Can she face signing another contract, or will she lose more of herself in his world without ever gaining more from him. These freaking entries are so damn intense! Can't wait until the release of book two next week! Now I'm almost convinced that Mark is Rebecca's Master. I wonder how many more journal entries are going to be released and how long until my suspicions over "his" identity are confirmed or denied. Hmmm and I wonder who can he be then if not Mark. And who the heck is the second Master as well?!? Love this freaking series!!

I like that Rebecca showed a little spunk in this one, I did wonder that she was beginning to totally lose herself because her master was suppressing her so much. I wish we could find out who her master is already. I guess that will happen in the main books though.

I am so thrilled that I have been the opportunity of reading this series. I have said in the past that I love this series and I am so enveloped with the whole story and I still do NOT have a hot ass clue of who the Master is. Grrrrrr! ;)
I'm starting to get some suspusicions but there are still a few players in the equation that make me question every motive of everyone in the book while trying to figure out if he is the one.
In this installment we find out more about Rebecca and her Master and the intricities of their relationship.
We also see how much this lifestyle is effecting Rebecca and the torment it is causing her. Is this relationship enough for her? Can she find her way withing this life?
These journals take you right into the mind of Rebecca and you feel like your are going through what she is going through even though you don't know who the master is you still feel their connection and the depth of their relationship.

Volume 4 takes us into the future with Rebecca and her Master. They have renewed their contract multiple times and Rebecca realizes she is falling in love with him. He on the other hand does not believe in love and it seems claiming Rebecca publicly is as close to love as he gets.
This is where everything starts to change, Rebecca realizes her needs will not be met if things continue as they are and refuses to sign another contract though she loves him.
I still have no clue who Master is, though I do have an idea or three bouncing around in my head!! Hopefully his identity will come out soon, I don't know how much more of the mystery man I can take!!

This was another interesting short, and I liked this one because Rebecca finally got tough, and really stuck up for her own ideas and values, and refused to let her ‘Master’ control her any more. She’s been fairly willing to go along with anything up ‘til now, so it was nice to see her trying to take back a bit of that control. It did feel like this wasn’t the end of Rebecca’s story though, which is obviously a bit frustrating!
Overall; Rebecca takes back some control.

One of the best series I've ever read! Lisa Renee Jones, you are a genius and I would definitely enjoy seeing this made into a tv series for sure!

That was way tooooo short! Nothing is resolved. The only good thing about it is that she's standing up for herself. About time woman!

There are certain characters that really stay with you. Rebecca is one of those characters for me. The way in which she is written and the way her story is unfolded is genius. I love LRJ's work in general but there is something really profound about this series. It is a masterpiece. I have to say out of all of the series so far it is my favorite. This book is the most bittersweet because we know how Rebecca's story ends.

Mark and Rebecca have the kind of relationship that if given the time and space could have been happily ever after. It was about two broken people working their way through their issues. And after making mistakes trying for a chance to fix them. But, as we all know fate had other ideas about that ending. It was bittersweet and heartbreaking.

Good. For. Rebecca. She knows what she wants and won’t stand for less. I hate that this is the end of her story! These journals have renewed my interest in certain characters and am looking forward to finishing the rest if the INSIDE OUT series.
