Darren Shan (born July 2, 1972 in London, England) is the pen name of the Irish author Darren O'Shaughnessy, as well as the name of the protagonist of his book series The Saga of Darren Shan, also known as The Cirque Du Freak Series in the United States. کتاب خیلی خوبی بود اخرشم بنظرم خوب جمع شد یه جورایی برداشت من این بود وقتی عزیزی رو ازدست میدیم زیاد غصه نخوریم چون اون رفته ب دنیای بعدی ما هم بلاخره میریم پیشش حالا چ نیم ساعت دیگه چ ۳۰ سال دیگه در هر حال بازم میریم پیشش (( البته از لحاظ دینی میگن اون دنیا مادر فرزندشم نمیشناسه و هر کسی ب فکر اعمال خودشه ولی حالا اگ اینو فاکتور بگیریم بلاخره میتونیم ببینیمشون دیگه 🙄🤔))

یمقدار تو این سه جلد به جاده خاکی زد ولی پایان بندی کتاب خیلی عالی و تقریبا غیر قابل پیش‌بینی بود. واقعا لذت بردم

یکی از به یاد ماندنی ترین داستان هایی که تو دوران نوجوانی خوندم. جلد اول این مجموعه شبیه یه داستان عادی خون آشامی به نظر میرسه ولی هر چی جلوتر میریم دنیای داستان بزرگ تر و جذاب تر میشه جوری که میشه گفت نقطه اوج کتاب پایانشه ! پایان کتاب فوق العاده نفس گیر و متفاوته و باعث میشه این کتابو تا مدت ها فراموش نکنین..
نکته دیگه اینکه داستان به صورت اول شخص روایت میشه و به همین خاطر همذات پنداری خیلی بیشتری تو مخاطب نسبت به داستان هایی که راوی سوم شخص دارن ایجاد می کنه.

دارن شان نویسنده پرکار ایرلندی است که در ایران بیشتر با قصه های سرزمین اشباح شناخته میشود. این مجموعه داستان به صورت چهار مجموعه سه جلدی شامل می شود.

سیرک عجایب:دارن شان نوجوانی عاشق عنکبوتها است. دوست صمیمی او در مدرسه استیو لئونارد است این دو در یکی نیمه شب به سیرکی می روند و شاهد اجرای برنامه توسط شبحی به نام لارتن کرپسلی می شوند. دارن عنکبوت شبح را می دزد و درنهایت برای نجات جان دوستش مجبور می شود تا با کرپسلی معامله کند و تبدیل به شبح شود و با لارتن و سیرک عجایب راهی سفر شود.

دستیاریک شبح: دارن که به تازگی تبدیل به شبح شده استسعی می کند با این حقیقت کتنار بیاید. او سعی می کند این حقیقت و زندگی جدید را بپذیرد او در این کتاب با پسر جوانی به نام سام می شود ماجراهای این کتاب درنهایت منجر به مرگ نها دوستش می شود و سام تبدیل به نخستین انسانی می شود که دارن از خونش تغذیه می کند.

دخمه خونین: این کتاب مربوط به سفر دارن و لارتن کرپسلی به زادگاه کرپسلی است که در شهرش یک شبح واره( دشمن اشباح) دیده شده او به زادگاه خود باز می گردد تتا مردم شهرش را از شر این موجود خلاص کند. دارن در این شهر با دختری به نام دبی آشنا می شود. شبح واره قصد جان دبیی را می کند لارتن و دارن مجبور به کشتن شبح واره می شوند و دارن بدون خداحافظی دوستش دبی را ترک می کند.

کوهستان شبح: لارتن تصمیم می گیرد دارن را به مقر اشباح ببرد و تأیید آن ها را برای شبح شدن دارن بگیردو در طول راه کوهستان آن دو به دستور دستینی که جادوگر عجیبی است مجبور می شوند آدم کوچولویی به نام هارکات را باخود ببرند که با دارن دوست می شود و برخلاف بقیه آدم کوچولوها می تواند صحبت کند. در نهایت دارن می پذیرد که در ازمون های مرگ برای اثبات لیاقت خود شرکت کند.

آزمون‌های مرگ:دارن در آزمونهایی شرکت می کند و به رغم جراحت های عمیق موفق نیز عمل می کند اما در نهایت به دلیل دخالت دوستش هارکات در مسابقه شکست خورد. دوستان دارن، کوردا و گاونر تصمیم می گیرند برای فرار از اعدام به او کمک کنند اما در راه متوج می شوند که کوردا یک خائن است و شبح واره ها را به کوهستان راه داده است. کوردا گاونر را می کشد اما دار می گریزد.

شاهزاده اشباح: در این کتاب دارن برای نجات اشباحی که در کوهستان زندگی می نند به کوهستان باز می گردد و در کنار اشباح با شبح واره ها می جنگد و آن ها را می کشند. شاهزادگان اشباح برای جلوگیری از مرگ دارن او را تبدیل به شاهزاده اشبح می کنند تا مجبور به اعدام او نشوند.

شکارچیان غروب: آقای دستینی به کوهستان اشباح می آید و می گوید که دارن ، لارتن و ونچا مارچ تنها اشباحی هستند که با ارباب شبح واره ها ۴ بار رو به رو می شوند و اگر او ر بکشند می توانند اینده اشباح را نجات دهند. در راه آن ها یک بار با ارباب شبح واره ها رو به رو می شوند اما ونچا به دلیلی همراهی برادر شبح واره اش می گذارد آن ها بروند بنابراین یک فرصت می سوزد.

در پایان اشباح تصمیم می گیرند از مسیرهای جداگانه بروند.

همدستان شب: دارن، کرپسلی و هارکات به زادگاه کرپسلی می روند درا این شهر یک نفر با پر کردن فرم های مدرس باعث می شود دارن به مدرسه باز گردد او در انجا با دوست قدیمی اش که دبی ات رو به رو می شود اودیگر معلم زبان انگلیسی دارن است.

این تنها رویارویی نیست دارن در ادامه دوست قدیمی اش استیو را نیز می بیند و با هم شروع به جست و جوی شبح واره ها می کنند. جان دبی به خطر می افتد و رد ادامه دبی و ونچامارچ نیز به جمع آن ها اضافه می شووند. در یکی جست و جو در کانال های فاضلاب به گروه آن ها حمله می شود و معلوم می شود که استیو به شبح وار ه ها پیوسته است دارن استیو را گروگان می گیرد تا شبح واره ها دبی را پس دهند در نهایت آن ها بدون دبی از کانل ها می گریزند.

قاتلان سحر: استیو از دست آن ها می گیریزد تمام شهر لارتن و دارن را مقصر قتل ها می دانند آن ها را دستگیر می کنند ان ها می گرییزند و برای رویایی بعدی به کانال های فاضلاب باز می گردند. در نهایت کرپسلی می میرد و آن ها در پایان می فهمند که استیو یک شبح واره معمولی نیست بلکه همان ارباب شبح واره هایی است که به دنبالش هستند.

Beware, extreme spoilers ahead, seriously

That was the most meta ending I've ever read. I've seen a bunch of reviews saying that it sucked and that it ruined the whole story but I disagree.
I kinda loved it honestly, it was straight-up genius (I'm exaggerating a little). It's like that whole thing in the last Twilight book where the last fight didn't actually happen and was instead Alice's vision the whole time. But with time travel!

I mean, is it weird as hell? Yes. Extremely nonsensical? Absolutely. But awesome!
I usually hate time travel as a way to solve plot points but I'm gonna let this one pass because it was very entertaining to see little-person-Darren meeting book 1 Darren and see Larten for the last time.

Anyway, I'm using this review to talk about the series in general, cause I have a lot of stuff to say.
Many things can be said about the Darren Shan book series but that it's boring is not one of them. The twists and turns in the plot went from mildly unbelievable to absolutely batshit and honestly, looking back on it all, I had a lot of fun.
Except for books 7 to 9, those were bullshit and I hated them, sorry.

Things I've gathered about Mr. Shan, the author (and more *wink wink*) :
- he's a sadistic man and loves murdering important side (and main) characters
- "fuck them kids" is his motto because 2 children were brutally murdered in these books, no shits given whatsoever (RIP Sam and Shancus, you were too pure for this world)
- his characters are dumb and make the worst decisions
- except for Kurda Smahlt who is an absolute delight and has never done anything wrong ever
- he is a big fan of deus ex-machina and random plot twists that make no sense for the lol of it
- he... doesn't like writing women apparently. The total of important female characters in 12 books was a total of 5....sad
- I still don't understand how Darren was Mr. Tiny's son.... like, how did that happen? Did Mr. Tiny get freaky with Mrs. Shan or is it a Rey Palpatine situation, I'm confused. Desmond being Steve's at least makes sense since his father left Steve and his mom, but Darren ?? ugh
- This makes it even weirder that Steve seduced Annie....like doesn't that mean that she's his half-sibling by marriage or something...Darius is Darren's nephew twice....gross.
- the Debbie situation didn't even get solved. Mr. Shan tried to make it better by saying that Darren would mature and be able to date her but then he just died so....whatever I guess, there was no point to this whole romance bullshit subplot. I hope that means Debbie will end up with Alice because, why not, right?

That's all I can gather for now but uh, it's enough I think.
Still, even considering all of this mess, I can't say I didn't like the books, I read the 3 first ones a long time ago and love them.
I just felt like I was watching a very long telenovela that should have been canceled at least three seasons ago.

I finally finished this series after starting it for the first time many-many years ago...I had moments of anger when Darren acted stupidly or made really naive decisions and yet I kept reading it...And you know what? I am really happy that I did because for me the ending was perfect! ☺️It concluded in a very logical way and it was bittersweet but at the same time hopeful and nice! Well done! 🙂

Ah the glorious time I had devouring this in my youthful days... (okay, still somewhat of a youth here- but seventh grade feels more like days from a long forgotten, merry old past than anything. Hello nostalgia, my old friend.)

Never having read the likes of the teen horror genre before -seeing as how RL Stine à la Fear Street were just baby steps to pave the way- I must say, I was immensely pleased with the first time experience.

Keep in mind that this was all before the cursed lure of young adult romance sucked me in to its everlasting blackhole and boy oh boy am I grateful I got the chance to read this first! Spending all that precious moola on each and every single book of the series was totally worth the nail-biting thrill the Darren Shan Saga bestowed upon me. Chilling to the bone, action-packed to a T and leaving me on the edge of my seat throughout, nothing could blow me away as much as that final climax did. Never before had I read a book with such a brutally satisfying ending and I absolutely loved every second of it.

Even now, part of me naively longed for Steve to 'turn to the light' till the very end (and NO, it's not thanks to my bby Josh Hutcherson playing him, thank you very much. On the contrary, that movie-that-must-not-be-named can kindly go and toss itself into a chasm of eternal fire, please.) but I'm glad the author didn't do so- I came to realize how utterly uninspired going down that route would've been, making it lose the edge it had worked so hard on sharpening over the course of the last eleven books.

Overall, I'd say this saga deserves a well-earned 4 star rating from both my 12 and 18-year old self.

This is a truly wonderful series and I seriously recommend picking them up.

Each of the books are pretty short, so going for these collections of three stories you’re getting much better value for your money and much more fun with each book.

Dus, wauw, ik ben echt klaar met deze serie! En daarmee bedoel ik dat ik het een keer als kind heb gelezen, behalve dan het laatste boek. En nu heb ik het eindelijke helemaal gelezen! Natuurlijjk ben ik nog niet helemaal klaar met deze wereld, want ik ga nog steeds de Larten Crepsley saga lezen, maar eerst een recensie voor deze schrijven.
Het was ontzettend spanned om te lezen, zoals altijd. De spannendste, denk ik, en ik ben er echt doorheen geracet. Er waren wat dingen die ik zag aankomen dat Darius Darrens neefje was en dat Steve Darius' vader was maar ook sommige dingen die ik niet had verwacht dat Desmond Tiny de vader van Darren en Steve was, bijvoorbeeld. Ik had erover gedacht dat Steve and Darren broers zouden kunnen zijn, maar gezien Darren opgegroeid is met een complete, liefdevolle familie, had ik niet verwacht dat het waar zou zijn. De manier waarop dingen opgelost werden op het einde, met het tijdreizen, dat was ook verrassend . Het einde was ook interessant, een intrigerende manier om alles bij elkaar te laten komen en het zorgt ervoor dat het nog creepier (of magischer, afhankelijk hoe je ertegen aan kijkt) lijkt. Het was een gelukkig einde, hoewel niet persé zo gelukkig als ik het graag had gewild. Ik had echt gehoopt dat Darren zou blijven leven. En ik had gehoopt dat Steve nog een beetje naar de goede kant terug zou keren. Dat was wel een beetje, maar heel weinig... (En hij heeft echt wat verschrikkelijke dingen gedaan, ik kreeg er specifiek de kriebels van toen ik las hoe Darius er is gekomen, dat is echt manipulatief en koud...)
Alles bij elkaar, een geweldig en mooi einde van een erg leuke serie, en ik kijk ernaar uit om de Larten Crepsley saga te gaan lezen.

So, wow, I finally finished this series! And with that I mean that I read it once as a child, with the exception of the last book. And now I've finally read the whole thing! Of course I'm not quite done with this world yet, because I'm still going to read the Larten Crepsley saga, but let's first review this one.
It was incredibly exciting to read, as always. The most exciting one, I think, and I really raced through it. There were some things that I saw coming Darius being Darren's nephew and Steve being Darius's father but also some things I hadn't expected Desmond Tiny being Darren's and Steve's father, for example. I had considered Steve and Darren being brothers, but since Darren grew up in a whole, loving family, I hadn't expected that it would be true. The way things were resolved in the end, with the time-travelling, was surprising, too . The ending was interesting, too, a very intriguing way to tie everything together and it makes it even more creepy (or magical, depending how you look at it). It was a happy ending, though not necessarily as happy as I had hoped. I really had hoped that Darren would live. And I had hoped to see some redemption for Steve. Now there was some, but very little... (And he really did some terrible things, I especially shuddered at how Darius came to be, that's really manipulative and cold...)
All in all, a great and beautiful conclusion to a very fun series, and I'm looking forward to reading the Larten Crepsley saga.

So, second time I read the series. First time I borrowed it from my sister and I loved it, so after a few years I came across the series second hand and had to buy them. I do prefer the trilogy books, instead of the separate parts, it's much neater this way and the separate books are kind of thin haha.

I like the series a lot. I do! I really think Darren Shan has the gift of writing detailed, lengthy stuff and make it seem like only a few pages. You just glide through it without noticing. Especially the first few books. Of all the trilogy books in this series, I think this one is less than the others.
I don't really like book 10. Book 10 is all about Harkat going on a quest to find his identity. Which of course we all want to know, but it takes a long time! And sure I get, it, it shouldn't be easy, but a whole book? It feels to me like going on a main quest in a game, like going after Ganon in the Legend of Zelda series, but somebody asks you catch like a million bugs. So you go bug hunting. And it's fine for a while, but man... it does take a lot of time. And you keep hunting bugs and more bugs and after a while you forget what the main quest really was. Ganon, where was he again? Why was he bad? What do I need to do?
Of course with this series you know about the war and the vampires and vampeneze etc, but for me the bug hunting goes on for too long.

Other than that, I know people hate the books for the ending. I do not. I think it's fine. I mean I wish it was different, because of all the relationships that will be gone forever, but that also makes the ending sad. And that's what war does, it makes you sad. I do find the ending a bit confusing, as in time traveling complicating stuff. But that's the thing with time travel right, it's pretty much always weird and complicating.

This was a short review. I liked the books, I will recommend them. They are fun, enthralling, new and not afraid of shaking things up a bit. So... go read them :D

ده: نمی‌دانم چرا یک‌هو تصمیم به این کار گرفت؟ این جلد کلاً جدا از قصۀ اصلی است که نمی‌دانم این روزها بهش چی می‌گویند؟ آرک؟ اسپین‌آف؟ یا حالا هر چیزی. ما همراه هارکارت و شان می‌شویم تا شخصیت حقیقی هارکارت را کشف کنیم. اینکه وسط این همه بلبشو یک چنین چیزی باشد را نمی‌توانستم قبول کنم و کمی حرص خوردم. با اینکه خود داستان مثل بقیۀ جلدها پر از حوادث جورواجور بود که با «شانس شبحی» از همه جان سالم به در می‌برند. دوباره هم شخصیت‌های تازه که می‌آیند و می‌میرند اما حضورشان جالب است. خوب است که این قدر راحت می‌شود شخصیت‌های «قصه»ها را از بین برد و ساخت.
یازده: قصه برمی‌گردد به شهری که از آنجا روایت شروع شده بود. آدم‌هایی آشنایی می‌بینیم و البته جالب‌تر اینکه خواهر دارن شان را می‌بینیم که بزرگ شده. این حس بزرگ‌ شدن که تو در همان سن ماندی و انگار بقیه جلوتر رفتند برای من عجیب بود. چیزی که بیشتر از همه خوشم آمد بی‌رحم بودن و بدون تعارف بودن شخصیت منفی بود. یعنی الکی حرف نمی‌زند تا کسی شخصیت‌های خوب را نجات دهد بلکه فقط کار خودش را می‌کند و بقیه برایش کوچک‌ترین اهمیتی ندارند.
دوازده: و پایان ماجرا. به نظرم کتاب را خوب تمام کرد و کاری که از اول تا انتها چیده بود درست به ثمر نشست. به طور معمول فکر می‌کنیم پایان خوشی برای کتاب خواهیم خواند و همه چیز خیلی خوب تمام می‌شود اما اینجا فقط این نبود. یعنی نمی‌دانستی که آیا این پایان خوب بود و تازه بعد از آن هم هنوز ماجرا ادامه داشت. یعنی وقتی که داستان تمام می‌شود شخصیت ما هنوز درگیر اتفاقات است و از آن رهایی نیافته است. اینکه بعد از آن چی می‌شود و چطور این داستان شبیه یک لوپ دارد عمل می‌کند و کشف تک‌تک اتفاقاتی که تا اینجا ذره ذره خواندیم خیلی لذت‌بخش و نهایتاً آن را تبدیل به تجربه‌ای لذت‌بخش می‌کند که تک‌تک شخصیت‌ها و آدم‌ها را شاید به اسم نه، ولی به یادمان می‌ماند.

Darren Shan has always been a go to favourite author of mine since I first discovered the school library. I always wished Cirque Du Freak is a real circus as a kid growing in to a adult I still think it be incredible to have a Freak show coming to our little town in the middle of the night I would have loved to see Madame Truska or Evra performance.

Only part which let me down is the time travelling scene at the end of the book it felt like Darren's journey had all been a pointless dream as he never got to meet any of his friends again or got a proper goodbye he simply just disappeared like he never existed.

I think I would like a alternative ending where Darren could live in another world with his friends and family perhaps in vampire paradise so he could finally be happy and in peace with his life. I would make me more happy than anything I would love for Darren and Mr Crepsley meet again in another life.

What an ending to a thrilling ride.
This is probably my 12th time reading this series and I genuinely cannot get enough of it.
I stepped into Darren's world 18 years ago as an 11 year old kid, at 29 he's got me hook, line and sinker yet again. No matter how often I read these books, I discover a new emotion, a new part of myself and of the characters, as my own perspective shifts, so too does my appreciation for the depth of the characters and the world that's been created. This is the series that sparked my love for reading and it'll be a love affair that lasts my whole life through.

نمی‌دونم چطور احساسم رو نسبت به این مجموعه بگم. میتونم بگم بجز کتابای کوچولو کوچولوی ار.ال.استاین اولین مجموعه فانتزی که شروع کردم سرزمین اشباح بود و یجورایی استارت ورود من به دنیای کتاب بود:>
کلاس شیشم این مجموعه شروع شد و با تاخیر و کلی دراپ تا الان که دانشگاهم میشه گفت بالاخره تموم شد:>
این مجموعه سالهای عجیبی از زندگی یادم میاره.
و تک تک بخشاش برام لذت بخش بود. خوشحالم کرد و قلبم رو شکست.
و پایانش هم منطقی بود:)
هرچند میشد بنظرم ازش باگ دراورد اما خب. از هرمجموعه‌ای ایراد بگیرم از این ایراد نمیگیرم☝️

Holy moly...what a series! I was slow to finish this book because I didn't want it to end!

It's rather annoying when the endings of series aren't satisfying, but this ending really was. Everything is explained, everything is tied together and a lot of the time you're left saying, "What?!" out loud, and, "How did I not see that?!"

Definitely a great read. Not your typical vampire series, and I will definitely have to reread these books again in the future!

So I put this book off for about 10yrs... yay anxiety over book series ending ^^"

This was chock block full of nostalgia and I really enjoyed every minute. And I think I now appreciate the ending more than I would have when I was younger. There is more of a nuance and a softness to this ending that I don't think I would have enjoyed.

Also "Mr Crepsley is waiting"... are you trying to hurt me Shan?! 😭💕

Onmogelijk om dit laatste deel neer te leggen! Het was zo ontzettend spannend! Ondanks het voorspellen/nog weten van enkele twists, werd ik meerdere malen verast.
Ik was bezorgd, toen ik deze reeks na 14 jaar terug vastpakte, dat het me ging tegenvallen, maar niks is minder waar. Ik weet nu terug waarom ik een obsessie heb met vampiers, waarom dit boek mij als kind fundamenteel heeft veranderd.
Deze reeks is meesterlijk en ik koester het voor eeuwig!

Aloitin tämän sarjan lukemisen yläasteella ja nyt yli 10 vuotta myöhemmin luin kolme viimeistä osaa eli osat 10-12. Ihan hyvin sain palautettua hahmot ja tapahtumat mieleen.
Paikoitellen vähän naurettava, mutta nostalgian tunteen, jonka tämä tarina minussa herätti, oli arvokasta.

Mit dem Sammelband "Das Schicksal der Vampire" endet die Geschichte des Halbvampirs Darren Shan auf eine Art und Weise, die ich direkt mal vorwegnehmen möchte: Grausam für das Leseherz! Was es damit im einzelnden auf sich hat, erkläre ich noch.

In diesen drei Geschichten merkt man direkt, dass der Autor noch mehr mit den Zeiten spielt als bisher. Es vergehen wieder Wochen, Monate, Jahre zwischen manchen Kapiteln und den einzelnden Teilen. Der Krieg der Narben zwischen Vampiren und Vampyren ist immer noch das Thema Nummer eins und weil Darren eine der Hauptpersonen ist, die dazu auserkoren wurden um das Schicksal ihrer Rasse zu bestimmen, war es zunächst eine völlige Überrraschung, dass sich die erste Geschichte komplett mit dem Kleinen Mann Harkat Mulds beschäftigte. Mir persönlich gefiel das am besten an diesem Buch, denn die Freundschaft zwischen Darren und Harkat, das ganze Geplänkel und vorallem die Geheimniskrämerei von Meister Schick über Harkat's vorheriges Leben haben mein Leseherz bei Laune gehalten und ich musste die Seiten einfach verschlingen um die Wahrheit rauszufinden.
Zunächst hat Darren jedoch die Wahl, ob er Harkat begleitet. Er muss dabei zwischen Harkat und seiner früheren Freundin Debbie und dessen Kumpanin Alice wählen, die sich als Menschen zum Berg der Vampire aufmachen wollen um ihre Unterstützung in dessen Krieg gegen die Vampyre anzubieten. Schließlich lassen die Vampyre auch Menschen für sich kämpfen und Debbie und Alice erkennen darin die Gefahr für ihre eigene Spezies.
Dass er sich dennoch Harkat anschließt war dann eine ziemliche Überraschung, aber ich war dankbar drum, denn so wurde mal als Leser in eine völlig verdorrte und verzerrte Welt geführt. Das Land, die Tiere und die Menschen unterscheiden sich von dem, was die beiden kennen.
Darren und Harkat stehen wilde Prüfungen bevor, die ziemlich knifflig waren und abstrus erschienen, aber ich war ziemlich gebannt von dem was der Autor da fabriziert hat.
Und später versteht man auch, wieso der Krieg eine kurze Auszeit nehmen musste, damit diese Geschichte erzählt werden konnte.

Der weitere Verlauf konnte mich dann weniger faszinieren, da diese ganze "Ich kann in die Zukunft und Dein Schicksal sehen, aber ich darf Dir nicht sagen was Du nun tun sollst"-Masche von Meister Riesig und Evanna einfach anstrengend war. Meister Schick selbst war wieder ein Ekelklops aller erster Güte auf dessen Worte ich mich nicht alleine verlassen wollte.
Es gibt Wendungen und Geschehnisse, die mich sprachlos gemacht und das Buch weiterhin spannend gehalten haben. Und dann kam das Ende. Besser gesagt gefühlte zweihundert Seiten, wo auf der ersten etwas steht und auf der letzten etwas steht und ich dazwischen einfach nur denken konnte "Wann ist das Theater endlich vorbei???"

Mir kommen für das ganze Wörter wie unprofessionell, dahingeklatscht und um's Ziel beschissen in den Sinn und nachdem ich mich die letzten fünfzig Seiten mit dem Mantra "Das war's noch nicht, da kommt noch mehr" über Wasser halten konnte, war die letzte Seite eine richtige Enttäuschung.
So lässt man doch kein Buch enden! Völlig egal wie die Story ist, völlig egal welche Charaktere am Ende noch leben, es gibt Dinge, die man sich als Leser für ein gutes Ende erhofft!
1. Das man zurückblicken, und jede Wendung und jedes Geheimnis verstehen kann.
Fakt: Ja, das ging, allerdings hätte der Autor hier ruhig kürzere Dialoge mit mehr Sinn verfassen können, denn meist war der Weg bis zur Aufklärung solang, dass das dazwischen bei mir einfach verloren ging, weil es mir unwichtig erschien.
2. Das es ein würdiges Ende ist.
Fakt: Ich habe ja schon mehrere Buchenttäuschungen hinter mir, aber als ich mit Band eins anfing und über Vampire und andere Freaks lesen durfte, war mir nicht klar, dass der letzte Teil des letzten Buches mehr als deutlich machen würde, dass die ganze Vampir-/Freakgeschichte einfach nur eine enorm lange Einleitung war. Das Ende hatte meiner Meinung nach mit all dem nichts mehr zu tun. es war nur noch ein großes Puzzle. Eine Art Laune der Natur.
3. Das man erfährt, wie es mit den Charakteren ausgegangen ist bzw. wie es in etwa weitergehen könnte.
Fakt: Hier erfährt man nur das Ende einer Person und bei all den liebgewonnen Charakteren, die man in der finalen Schlacht das letzte Mal liest, hatte ich mir einfach mehr erwünscht. Soviel Dramatik und Freundschaft wurde in meinen Augen einfach verschwendet.

Der letzte Punkt wiegt für mich am schwersten, denn wenn eine Buchreihe endet, blickt man auf alles zurück und ich finde hier passte einfach gar nichts mehr. Die Charaktere hätten würdigere Enden verdient. Die ganze Grundstory ergibt für mich keinen wirklichen Sinn mehr. Und es gäbe soviele Möglichkeiten wie das alles weitergehen könnte. Man hat als Leser die Wahl seine Fantasie anzukurbeln, aber es wäre völlig sinnlos, weil ich nicht denke, dass es zu etwas hinführen könnte.
Geschichten sind Fiktion, sicherlich, aber man möchte doch irgendwie daran glauben können, oder nicht? Ich war drei einhalb Bände wirklich begeistert von Darran Shan, aber was danach kam hat mir - wenn ich es richtig dramatisch formulieren möchte - mein Leseherz gebrochen.
