Amanda Chambers is determined to take a dislike to the Englishman who bought the ranch next door to her father's ranch, but she takes things a step too far when she strikes Robert Thorne across the cheek with her little riding whip.
Robert isn't about to put up with such nonsense, and he puts her over his knee and uses the riding whip on her posterior while she screams bloody murder.
The incident with Rob is the last straw with her father, Matt Chambers. Ever since Mandy came to live with him after her mother's death, Mandy had been uppity and turning everyone against her. He was out of patience, and it appeared that there was at least one man who wasn't afraid of his daughter's temper.
Robert was determined to tame the pretty little redhead, but he had to admit he didn't know when he had ever met such a stubborn, hotheaded female!
Strong Woman and a Tough Man. Amanda has been feeling but out since joining her father out west. She meets her match in the neighbor Robert. They begin to having feelings but now they have to figure out who is trying to kill Robert. Great story of mystery and intrigue set in the old west.
I enjoyed the story and the characters. Amanda is young woman that has come to live with her father, on his ranch, after her mother died in Boston. She is very spoiled and somewhat obnoxious to the people around her. Robert is a second son from a noble family in England that has moved to America and purchases the neighboring ranch to Amanda and her father. Amanda and Robert's first meeting is one which ends in him turning her over his knee and whipping her with a riding whip. This begins their tumultuous relationship. Her father decides that he has continued spoiling her and that she needs to be taught a lesson. He begins spanking when she doesn't do as she is told. Robert and Amanda develop feelings for one another and face many obstacles as they try to find their way to happiness. I also enjoyed the other side stories that were involved in this book - the cowhand who had suffered amnesia and the young lady who developed feelings for him.
This story had so much going on that I didn't wan to stop reading until all of the mysteries had been solved/resolved and the couples found their happy ever after.

Amanda is a spirited, independant redhead who moved home to her father's ranch after her mother died in Boston. In the few years she has been on the ranch, she has been spoiled by her father who is trying to make up for lost years with her as well as allow for his daughter's grief.
However, now she is a handfull to deal with as their neighbor Robert finds out. Sparks fly as tempers rise between them. Robert is originally from England and as the second son has no inheritance or title. He came to America to make his way and discovered a love for ranching. While most men have bowed to Amanda's whims, Robert won't have it. Soon he is spanking her for pushing her horse too hard. Her father discovering them, is relieved that Robert has taken his daughter to task, and vows to make her mind from here on. Her father also likes his neighbor and thinks they would make a good match.
Yet, there are things to deal with before vows can be said. Someone is out to kill Robert.
A fun adventure with a great cast of supporting characters/couples.
The Demure Bride, by Joannie Kay, is a warm, wonderful love story set in Texas – probably in the late 1800s. Amanda was raised in Boston by her mother, who has died – and she goes to Texas to live with her father, who owns a large ranch. The nearby neighbor is Rob, an Englishman who has moved to Texas and bought a ranch to start a new life for himself. They soon become really interested in each other and gradually fall in love, with the approval of Amanda’s father – but their life is clouded by someone trying to kill Rob – and hurt Amanda in order to get at Rob. This creates a lot of activity as the efforts to find that person go forward. Rob is quick to spank Amanda when she isn’t careful about her safety, but aside from the spankings and some mild petting, there are no other amorous activities in the story. Both main characters were strong and determined, and I enjoyed reading about how they interacted with each other through the problems they faced. This Western romance set in Texas was an easy and exciting read with multiple characters, good and evil. The main focus was on the relationship between Rob Thornton and Amanda Chambers. Rob and Amanda were neighbors, and from their first meeting, it was fireworks. Talk about a battle of the wills. Amanda was reckless, spoiled, and impulsive, with a temper that matched her red hair. Rob was trying to make a go of ranching, but someone was out to harm him. His first meeting with Amanda was memorable for all of the wrong reasons after he spanked her for hitting him across the face after he scolded her for mistreating her horse. This was the start of many spankings in this book, some of which were harsh. I felt like slapping Amanda if she said one more time, "I'm in pain. “
The book includes danger, angst, revenge, mystery, murder, cattle rustlers, and spanking scenes. There was romance but no sex scenes. All involved had a happy conclusion except for the story's villain. I enjoyed this short romantic story
She is anything but demure. - Robert is enamored with Amanda even if she is a termagant. He knows just how to calm her fiery spirit and tame her stubbornness. A long trip across his knee, which happens as often as she insists on going her own way. Which is a lot. When an unknown enemy targets him, Amanda is in the crosshairs as well and he'll do anything to keep her safe, even blister her butt til she won't dare think about riding. A well-written western romance with great characters (bold women, overprotective men, villains), shoot'em up action, sweet kisses, and spankings galore (and not just Rob walloping Mandy). A twofer, as Whitey (Dave) and Helene find love with each other after she learned the truth about her ex beau.

If you are a spanking romance fan you will probably like it as there are plenty of spankings. One of the things I liked about this book was when the main character was about to be spanked she would deny that she should have one. One time she actually ran away. One all too common thing I see in spanking stories where the girl is spanked in the beginning of the book by a virtual stranger. The man will say you need a spanking come over here and then they do. That always seemed crazy. This book the girl has more spunk. She actually kicks one guy in his shin. Another thing I like is the dominant men are not perfect. When the punishment is too harsh they admit it. Too many books out there have the dom as perfect. Overall this is a decent story and worth reading.
Feisty Amanda doesn't like being told that she shouldn't do something. After being thrown after overfacing her horse she didn't appreciate her neighbour, Rob Thorne, checking if she was injured. After she hit him with her riding whip he spanked her, then took her home. To her surprise her father agreed with Rob about her behaviour.
This was an explosive start to a relationship. Things were made even more complicated with someone trying to kill Rob.
This is an enjoyable light read.

This is a Western Romance with a mystery along with it. You can feel the characters as they spar with each other. The mystery keeps interfering with their connection. But, when the mystery comes to its climax, they end up together. A good read.

Mandy was raised in Boston by her mother. When her mother dies, Mandy moves west to live with her father. She is not happy about the move and treats everyone with disdain. Sparks fly when Mandy meets Robert after she falls from her horse. Robert is intrigued, but Mandy doesn't care to be disciplined. Eventually, she comes around, but I think the discipline in this book is over-the-top.
A suspenseful read from the very beginning with alpha males and strong independent women. Someone from Rob's past is trying to destroy him first financially and then by attempting to killing him. Lots of power exchange with the main couple. A super enjoyable story.

Amanda had left Boston to live with her father and when Robert met her, he knew she had to learnt there were consequences to her actions. What a way to start a relationship! A good read!.

There were too many side stories going on in this aside from the H/h, and I think that time could have been better used to develop their relationship. In so many of these books, I wonder why the couple fell in love at all. I would like to see that aspect of the relationship developed more.
Also, if you are looking for erotica this isn't it. It's more straightforward discipline than erotica. There is one scene that starts to be a bit spicy, but it gets cut off. I blame Amazon for this in a way. When you search for 'spanking erotica', this and other books that are really just discipline w/out or w/very little sexual content come up. I would advise readers to read the reviews before deciding to read something based entirely on how the book turns up in a keyword search. I realize some people are more interested in the spankings/discipline and not so interested in the erotic component and that's fine - I just wish these books were labeled more as 'spanking only' or 'spanking w/erotica' or something like that.
I also did not like the fact that some of the punishment scenes were the father punishing the h (totally non-sexual, so it wasn't sick). I'm just not interested in that sort of spanking.
This was a very sweet and sexy story! The writing is great and I keep on saying that I need to read more historicals because they have a different kind of charm all on their own. The writing was great, I got a real feel for the characters and I love the whole ranching setting. I love horses and admire the way the father wanted the horses to be taken care of. The h was hot tempered and a northern gal while our lead was a strong man who made Texas his home.
She needed to be taken to task and why not him? He wouldn't let her walk all over him and they were attracted to one another.
I do love how she made him feel sparks and vice versa, they had great chemistry! Her poor dad, I do wish that things had been different for her parents. I loved the other couple as well and enjoyed what went on. I do wish each pairing had more time to talk things out, but spankings apparently don't wait for anyone! Lol. A fun read!
