Laney’s life is suddenly tangled by deceit and, as she tries to pull her past, present and future together, she finds herself and her friends fighting for their lives. Thrown into the midst of a conflict that has been brewing for centuries—a conflict that no mere human should be anywhere near—Laney and her friends will discover that the mythical creatures of lore are not so mythical after all.
As Carter and Kiera’s relationship moves forward, Laney and Oliver’s becomes strained…confusing…dangerous.
Laney would have never thought Oliver was capable of causing such pain, such heartache, such fear. When he becomes a danger to everyone they know, especially her, Laney must make the choice to save herself, or those she loves.
As if this weren’t enough, a visit from Oliver’s brother could bring Laney’s life to a tragic end.

A great book full of some of the best characters, with some of the best friendships I've seen. You can really feel the bonds between characters. I truly enjoyed this exceptional book, full of thing's I didn't see coming. It's very well written, and easily kept my attention throughout.
WOW! <~~~ I'm seriously struggling to find any words beyond wow to describe this book. I loved Laney. I became a huge fan after Darkness. I'm absolutely addicted after finishing Tainted Blood! It's as if I have a bond with the series and I'm desperate to read the next book!
Tainted Blood is an action packed page turner and I just can't get enough of the characters. This book shows you a whole new side of all the characters - and as they start to uncover more about the crazy paranormal world they've found themselves living in, they are forced to grow up. They can no longer trust anyone, including each other and that is the hardest part of all. I felt every emotion that Laney experienced, I was actually snapping at my husband when he interrupted my reading. lol The story was written in such a way that it all seems so real, I could actually picture myself in her situations, and 9 times out of 10 I would have done the same thing. Always getting myself in trouble. I think this series has come the closest to real world happenings mixed with the paranormal than any other book that I've read in quite a while. I mean, not that vampires and werewolves are going to pop out of the woods, but the day to day life of the characters is reasonable, unlike a lot of the books that I've read.
Full of twists and turns, you will find yourself on the edge of your seat not wanting to put the book down! I actually loaded it onto my phone so every chance I got at work I could read, even if it was just a paragraph at a time!
The ending is KILLING me, and not knowing how it turns out is torture! I've already begun bribing Joann to let me in on the plot of book 4! So far she's not leaking any details. lol
Oh my goodness, this series keeps getting better and better! I do feel for Oliver and Laney though, just when you think they can finally be together without anyone trying to attack them, break them up or kill them, BAM! Something new happens. Any Joann has a way of just throwing in a new twist when you least expect it. Tainted Blood is filled with the characters you fell in love with, new characters that you either love, hate, or am just out right suspicious of and some definitely unexpected characters. There is full of love, hate, anger, jealousy, mistrust, humor, deceit, adventure, kiss butt scenes, and questions that aren't always answered.May I so want to know Laney's lineage! She finally starts to have the same suspicions about her linage as I do but with all the chaos she puts it on the back burner of her mind and decides to ask Oliver or Felix about it later. So book three begins by recapping the end of book two, which I was glad for because I needed some refreshing because I haven't read Laney and Darkness since the beginning of the year. Laney and Carter had a "fun filled" night due to Carter's depress state about losing Kiera because he thinks she'd be better off without out him since his "incident".The whole plan back fires and they not too sure what happened during their drunken episode. This slowly blows over, Kiera and Carter get back together but Oliver is still a little weary about Laney and Carter's friendship. This throws some kinks in their relationship. Laney and Oliver start having little spats here and there and then Oliver's behavior starts to get flaky. He isn't being himself and Laney starts to worry.Things turn from and to worst when Oliver losses it one night. This is the perfect time for Oscar to jump in and try get his paws on Laney, which sends Laney into loony Laney (I have to say this is totally hilarious part of the book). All this while some crazy plot is being played out to get rid of some key vampires. So Felix, some of his friends and Laney's friends must uncover and dismantle this plot before everyone gets hurt from plot. Some will not make it,some will and some will barely escape the clutches of death.
I know I've had read the previous two books but this one have so much more. This book is getting better and become more interesting with the whole new side of all the characters and uncovering more things about paranormal world and its creatures that they've found exist and living in.And there were scenes where Laney & Oliver's relationship is tested out of their wills.I am really feeling bad for what they have to face and overcome before they can be bonded. Now I need to continue to read Book 4 ^^
It was awesome! I want everyone to be jealous that I get to read her books first (One of the many perks of being married to the author :p ). I have no doubt that if you have enjoyed the previous two books, you will absolutely love the third. Since she has not released any details yet, I do not feel it is fair for me to reveal anything. I will say that it was another emotional roller coaster.

I liked this one better than the 2nd book. The characters really came along in this one. Everyone pretty much comes into their own and you see who they really are-good and bad. You get to see a semi nice side of Julz which was out of the blue, but entertaining. I do like that everyone, including Laney's "normal human" friend know what's going on. It was so well written I got angry...really angry with Oliver over the whole Avery thing! Turns out the blood he was drinking was poisoned, so that explains a lot. Half way through he's and is taken away by the coven to "detox" and you get a glimpse of some other POVs for a short while.
While I understand why she forgave him at the end (I did, too), I can't understand Oliver's overall behavior regarding bonding with Laney. She keeps trying, she keeps telling him (and showing!) him that she's ready, and he keeps stopping, sometimes making jokes like "Nice try". WHY does he get so angry when she's around other guys, angry that her angel wants to take her away, but he doesn't bond with/claim her? What IS it with guys-they only want something when another guy wants and/or has it?!? Sorry Oliver but I'm will Beyonce on this one: "If ya like it then ya shoulda put a ring on it...". Or, in this case, if you want her to be yours, then f'n bond already! You know how it goes: Sh** or get off the pot...
Oscar is more prominent in this, causing conflict and drama. At the end he's joined by Laney's guardian angel who also has an ulterior motive. Book 4 should be quite interesting. I'm saddened by the ending, but then again I definitely want to see where the story goes-of course! :)
I feel like I'm finally about to get some answers to some of the questions I've had on the first 3 books, only to get a new set of questions on top of them...I'm going to have to start a notebook like Yvette Nicole Brown does on "Talking Dead"...Lol

WOW!! I have loved this series from Laney book one and I have fallen in love with the characters and story with each new book and Tainted Blood is no different.
Just when you think the worst is over and Laney and Oliver can finally bond we get hit with something entirely new that pulls them apart even more. Joann has a way of adding twists and turns that will leave you with your mouth hanging open and screaming NO! at the top of your lungs. Add to that they are all forced to grow up even more as they try to deal with all the new things in this paranormal world they live in but the hardest part for me was watching how they couldn’t even trust each other. It just broke my heart to see everything that each of them are going through but especially Laney and Oliver. I have been a fan of theirs since the first book and have wanted them to be able to bond. I am hoping that things settle down for them all in the next book but knowing Joann she will have another twist or two that will leave me on the edge of my seat the whole time while reading and when I am done I know I will be begging her for any information for the next book.
This is defiantly a series worth picking up. I promise you will not be disappointed as it will have you rooting for Laney and have you falling in love with Oliver and wishing you could be Laney just so you could have him all for yourself. This book has been my favorite so far out of the series and has left me impatiently waiting for book 4 to the point I am desperate to know what is going to happen so for that it deserves more than 5/5 so I am giving it a 10/10 Bloody Fangs
Tainted Blood is the 3rd novel in the Brookhaven Vampires series, I won’t lie when I started reading book 3 I had completely forgotten what had happened in the 1st 2 books That fault is completely mine for leaving such a big gap between reading them. But with this said, I love how Joann reminded us by what had happened in the earlier books by showing Carter’s perspective. I really liked the mythology that was introduced in book 3 as well as getting that insight of Carter’s mind. Oliver was a jerk in this book so if you are Team Oliver beware you will be mad for majority of the book. As Carter is one of my favorite characters in the book it was nice to get more of him in book 3, it wasn’t all Laney and Oliver. It was a mixture of all the important characters and I really enjoyed it. Joann totally ended the 3rd book in a cliff hanger and then gave a cruel and mean teaser sneak peak to book 4 which made it even worse! Overall, my love for the series is growing with each passing day. If you recalled I found Laney to be too much like Twilight but as time passed on I started to love it more. I don’t know what this series has on me but the more time that passes after I read each book the more I need to read the next and the more I love the series.
This book was fantastic! It was definitely my favorite out of the three so far and I can't wait for the 4th book to come out! This book further developed characters and answered the questions I had about Amber and her brother. I liked the new characters that were added as well; they definitely added a bit of drama, especially Zane, whom I want to read more about in the 4th book. The end of this book had a preview of the next book and now I am freaking out over what is going to happen. I think my only complaints about this book would be that when the POV switched to Carter, it seemed to go back and explain more than necessary. Also, this book needs a lot of editing. Besides that, the story was paced really well and there was a lot of action that was lacking in the 2nd book. It's still a bit unclear about what will happen to Carter during the next full moon, but that's fine. I loved the introduction of Phen, and it's completely obvious who he and the leader of the Brookehaven Vampires are, but Laney just needs to catch up. Also, it was pretty obvious what was happening to Oliver, but it was still played out really well. I just really loved this book!
It had it's good points, but I just didn't like it as much as the others. Curves being thrown into relationships does make for interesting and at times infuriating reading, which is a good thing. It's been a while since u read this, like when it was released, so I'll need to to reread it for a real review. I really don't like the inclusion of yet more supernatural beings like angels & faeries. It just gets to be too much for me. Kinda like the last few Sookie books, way too many things to deal with & it loses my interest. That is just my personal preference of types of characters I'm interested in. I do like the book & the series & am rereading in anticipation of the next book.
I'd give the book a 3.5, but the rating system doesn't allow that. I'm about half way through retreading, book 2, so I should have a more accurate & revised review later.
Update:
After rereading the book I enjoyed it more than the first time around. And I may have been too critical about not liking angels in this type of fiction. It does seem like this type may prove to be interesting in the next book. So, I'm changing my review to a 4.
After waiting some time for this book, I regret to have to say that this book was quite disappointing. Compared to the previous two, this installment really did not hold my interest, and I struggled to finish this book. My admiration for Laney and Oliver diminished the more I read this book, and the storyline was dull and uninteresting, and seemed to just go on and on. Nothing new is learned about Oliver or Laney, particularly her heritage. And their too constant ups and downs are tiresome. If this book was condensed down, and been one part of a more elaborate book, I believe it would've been more interesting and worth while reading. The last chapter was very intriguing, and shows great promise for the fourth book, however I'm not sure if I will be anticipating the next one as much, if at all. This is all a shame as I really did enjoy and admire the two previous books.
Honestly, I don't have a recommendation for this book. Personally I would wait until the price has dropped, or skip it all together.
It's book is a mixed bag in my humble opinion. It begins well but then seems to get lost in the middle. I was thinking it would get back on track around three quarters of the way through the book. But to my dismay, the story got all mixed up again. The cliff hanger ending is nice for a series writer but there are way too many questions left unanswered by this book. I'm hoping the next book in the series answers some of the lingering questions created in this third installment. I truly enjoyed the first two books and have faith that the author can bring it back together in the next book.
This book deserves at least 7 stars!! From start to finish I was unable to put this book down. It picked up right where book 3 "Darkness" left off and did not disappoint. The story that transpired was definitely my favorite in the series so far. It was full of action, betrayal, love, loss, heartbreak, and lots of page turning suspense.
Joann is a very talented author that can pull you into the story with her descriptive way of writing. I am so happy that I found her work and this series, and I highly recommend it. I'm positive that you will love it as much as I do. :)
OMG! Joann Martin Sowles has left me on the edge of my seat waiting for book four of The Brookehaven Vampires. This book was as good as the first one (I did not love book 2). Some parts made me happy, others curious, some anxious, and some were heartbreaking. Laney did have one part that had me in hysterics. The ending was a complete cliffhanger, and I hate that I wait to find out what's going to happen. The premise for book four is interesting, and I can't wait to see how it's going to play out.
Gonna keep it short & sweet - I love the rocky relationship between Laney & Oliver. I'm not sure how many books there are going to be total, but I cannot wait for the next one considering the new twist that this one ended on. I also liked how part of this book was from Carter's point of view, but thought it kind of random considering the other 2 books didn't do that. Makes me wonder though if the next books will continue down this path with viewpoints of the other characters. Oliver? If you haven't read #1 Laney or #2 Darkness I suggest you start with those.
Wow, what an ending! This is by far the best book in the series that I have read. I loved this book... I loved the angst, drama, torn feelings, mystery, and excitement that poured out of Tainted Blood. I adore Carter and I can't wait for Laney and Oliver to have their "moment". I love Felix too! I can't wait to see what happens with him, Hayden, and Amber... so exciting. I'm anxious to discover what really is in Laney's blood and all about her mysterious father. I would recommend this book!
Joann always amazes me with her writing, how she starts the story to the very end. Always has you second guessing what's coming next. It's not your typical read. There's nothing typical about it. You love to hate Oliver and Oscar together and want to strangle Laney for her inner fights. But the ulitmate is when Joann just throws in a little something that makes you scream out. ..WTF! Nearly got myself in trouble at work reading on the job. Everyone loves a WHAT?! moment, it makes everything worth wild. Zane! Who's your daddy! ! Oliver's gonna be! Team Oliver and Laney ALL DAY!
This book was so worth the wait. It was slow beginning but I like the fact she reminded you of what happened at the end of the last book in the series. This was an awesome book and the whole series is such a wonderful story, the characters are all awesome and really bring the story together. I just wish we didn't have to wait so long in between books!! Great job, Great story, and Wonderfully written!!
Ok so I am getting slightly less happy with tease books. They are on a fine line from childish to young adults. What the heck was up with the ending. It really didn't need to be there (whole part where she went crazy). I still like the books and can't wait for the next one. I really want Laney and Oliver to have a good future. Oh and for Laney to realize her father is the vampire coven leader and that she has a brother. I mean come on who doesn't see that coming. (Sry if u didn't.)
Okay, okay, ok .... I was getting upset with the series, because she never lets Laney & Oliver bond.
This book was so good, action packed, and really worth it .. but now I have to wait for the next one to come out,(insert lots of curse words here).
But it is more than that, I really miss being able to read about them all, I miss the characters and reading about them every day. I even picked up the new book to the last series I was reading, and it is lacking compared to this series.
Loved this book!!!!!! I have always had a thing for vampires. I was addicted, when I wasn't reading I was thinking about reading. I just couldn't get the story out of my head. My favorite supernatural series. This was definitely a nail biter, my nerves were shot during parts of this book(in a good way). I can't wait until they finally get the deed done. :) Can't wait for the next. I am rereading again.
Amazing! I just cant describe how fantastic this story was/is. The emotions that it brought out in me? all i can do is shake my head. My heart was racing right along with Laney's. I do like the turn it has taken and the twists Ms. Sowles has bestowed upon us. Brace yourself ladies, you are in for one hell of a ride! I give it 10 stars!!
While I'm still very interested in this story and plan on reading the next, I have to say that this one was kind of hard to get through. But just the first half. It picked up quickly after that and got exciting again. But I think that most series has a book in the middle that can stall readers. This is still a pretty Goodread and I am eagerly waiting the next one!
This book was amazing. It had my emotions all over the place but in a good way. There were some really funny parts especially btw Carter & Laney. I could not put this book down & I'm so looking forward to book-4. I just finished book-3 & I'm ball of emotions but in a good way. Please hurry with next book. :-)
I didn't think they could keep getting better but they do!! This book just proves how much Joann's writing has evolved! Wow!! I loved Tainted Blood so much!! I was already a fan after Laney and Darkness but now I'm a full blown addict! This book had me flipping the pages as quick as I could just to see what else was going to happen... I couldn't read fast enough!! I was blown away!
