Tom Corson-Knowles is an entrepreneur, blogger and international bestselling author. He started his first business at age 13, manufacturing SAD lamps out of his father's garage. By the time he graduated from Indiana University Kelley School of Business at age 22, Tom was earning a full-time income from his business marketing whole food nutrition supplements. He then decided to share what he had learned on his way to becoming a successful businessman through writing. Today, Tom teaches new and established authors and writers how to have incredible success by writing and selling ebooks.
This was the second book of Its style that I’ve read, and I must say I enjoyed this book more. It’s short, to the point and has great information to assist any aspiring author. At no point was I bored while reading, which is difficult to do with “how-to” books.
Expected a bit more on the technical aspects of writing, but Tom focused on the things that stop you from writing. We all learned to write early ... we just forgot that we can.
Really liked it, is easy to read and it takes you by the hand on how to write. I think is a good book for all of those people that are hesitating about writing.
A short, easy read and, more importantly, a useful motivational tool. I'm suspicious of ebooks that, somewhere along the line, encourage you to farm out your work to some poor schmuck earning peanuts on Fiverr - but, that irritation aside, I was grateful for some of the author's tips. At one point, he links to his podcast with thriller writer Steve Berry, who talks about perseverance, self-discipline and self-editing. This really spoke to me, so, for that alone, I'm glad I read this book.
I preface this with saying, I am not a Nonfiction writer, but that didn't matter. Most of what is written in this book can also be put towards works of fiction. Personally, I found this helpful in several ways, but the most important came in Chapter 7: Overcoming The 7 Deadly Writing Obstacles. This chapter really held a mirror up to me and helped me see so many things I am doing that is sabotaging my writing career (Personally, I have had a finished manuscript sitting on my shelf in the "editing" process for 3 months now). And, the best part is, it is short and to the point. I was able to read it in just a couple hours (with a few interruptions here and there).
