Lanherne Chronicles #3

Last Days with the Dead

Rate this book
Humanity fell, time passed and the Dead still stalked the living, unable to quench the unnatural hunger that burned at the very core of their decaying shells. But among the survivors at a convent hidden deep in the Cornish countryside, a new and fragile hope had taken root, blossomed and grown. Had the mutated virus within Charlie really gifted them the true death they feared forever denied them? Had they finally been left to live in peace, unmolested and unhindered by those who had previously looked upon their existence with only jealousy and hate in their hearts? Only time would truly tell but when some of the survivors return from a foraging trip with worrying reports of burned buildings, ruined crops and an increase in the Dead roaming the countryside Liz, Imran, Phil and the others quickly realise they may just have their answer sooner than they had first hoped.

This has been a great series, despite the occasional implacability, such as still have petrol after so many years without it freezing, evaporating, or just plain going off.

The characters have been fantastic to get along with - those that survived and those that alas didn't - with the action being well presented and often quite sudden.

However, the ending did feel a little unsatisfying, at least to me.

The concept - which I won't repeat for spoiler reasons - was actually rather great, yet despite a long build up, with tension rising everywhere, came about way too suddenly, and, not to mention conveniently.

Then, to make matters even more jarring, the plot line just stopped and skipped ahead, to yet another semi-cliff hanger, for a book that apparently isn't coming.

Still, despite that, the getting there was well worth it so, as I can't knock the quarter off that I want to for the ending, I'm still giving the full five stars.

This is book 3 in the series and I LOVED them! I got book 1 as a freebie, then I just had to purchase the last 2. I'm not normally a zombie book kind of gal, but these really got my interest.

I only gave it 4 stars because the author left me hanging at the end. I understand that these books were about the lives of the people in them, but don't leave me hanging, man!!!

If you really like zombie books, you'll love these. If you don't like zombie books, but like horror/thriller, then these are for you, too. :)
