Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942) is best known for Anne of Green Gables, first published in 1908, but her literary career was firmly established before this endearing novel brough her international acclaim. Francis W. P. Bolger has compiled an informative and complete picture of the fascinating life and brilliant career of Montgomery, drawing from her scrapbooks, letters, diaries, photos and conversations with family members.
I enjoyed reading Maud's letters to her friend Penzie. She wrote the majority of them while she lived in Prince Albert with her father and stepmother. It is wonderful that they have been preserved this way. The actual writing of this book was just okay for me. The highlights being the original writings of Maud in her correspondence and also in her short stories and poems that were published early on. I appreciate the time and effort spent by Francis W. P. Bolger in making them available to Maud's loyal readers.
Loved the letters and early articles and story! It illuminated the early parts of LMM's life for me. Definitely going to read more biographies but this was a great little window into her life.
