no-thank-you
February 14, 2013
3/24/13. This is not a review of the book, but some clarification of my putting this book on my *no-thank-you* shelf after a screen grab of it showed up on that vile website that shall not be named or linked to. If you must go there, it is the March 20 post called "Bully Attacks This Week". I understand that these comments in the review section may be outside GR's TOS, so feel free to complain to them and let them decide. I can always copy and paste it into the comments.

I use my *no-thank-you* shelf for a variety of reasons - anything from tracking dejavu book covers (can't make the dejavu shelf exclusive, since some of my to read/read books qualify for that shelf), ass-hatted authors, mash-up books I won't read but want to get on the feeds to talk about, etc. In the case of this book it was a freebie that didn't appeal to me, but I wanted it on the feeds in case my friends might be interested, and this is the shelf I choose to put those freebies. I usually also add the *not-my-cuppa-tea* shelf to clarify, but I was busy and forgot. Excuse me. I might add that if *whoever* it was that got their nose out of joint and/or made the wrong assumption, if they had clicked on the comment everything would have been crystal clear - I wasn't shelving it to pick on the author - I was shelving it to put it on the feeds in case my friends were interested.

This all happened over a month ago, and the book long forgotten, until a new post from that site that shall not be mentioned shows up in my reader talking about this review. That blog post continued with screen grabs of other GR members shelving the book, including one I allegedly did. Never having come across this book and/or author before, I was scratching my head, especially when I pulled up the book on GR and I hadn't shelved it.

Noting the date stamp on the screen grab, I went to my *no-thank-you* shelf (click for image) and found I'd shelved three books on that date, and since the other two had more than one shelf, I'm guessing that has to be where the screen grab was taken, and leaves me scratching my head. The review linked above is for a completely different book/author, let alone that the bulk of the comments and shelvings for this other book are have March dates, long after I had shelved this book. Good to know that if I'm going to be one of the meanies I was well ahead of the rest of them :P

This book really has it all. Werewolves, vampires, gladiators. It's for those who like historical, paranormal and those who just like a good romance.

The tale of Androcles and Araceli . They find love with each other that burns deep in Androcles for centuries. Araceli's life is stolen away by Amara, the vampire who wants Androcles for herself. Weaving a tale of jealousy and love, Andy (Androcles) translates scroll that he wrote, for an archaeologist, Skye. To Androcles, she looks identical to his Araceli he lost so long ago. But, Skye has secrets too. This tale is gripping, and has you on the edge of your seat, wondering how it will all unfold. I really enjoyed this and am hoping that there will be another book with these characters. The ending felt a little rushed, but I'm definitely wanting more.

To say that the love making in this book is hot, would be an understatement. There's more heat than a kitchen oven! Quite exciting to read!

The idea was good, but the execution not so much.
The writing style grated: the sentences was too short and sometimes repetitive. To me it seems like a 12 years old writing: he said, she said, he did, she did... Let me quote the beginning:
Skye walked into the small gladiator cell. Ever since she’d accepted the job excavating the gladiator school, she’d felt drawn to this particular cell. On her breaks she found herself coming into the cell to sit and think. She’d just completed her doctorate in archaeology and thought she would be stuck teaching at the university for the summer.
Everything happens too abruptly. The story doesn't flow smothly. It could be because it's short...
If it was better executed it could have been a good book, but as it is I dodn't like it at all. The two starts are for the idea.

Wow! That's my first impression on this book. It kind of reminded me of a book by Manfredi. Ms. Secorsky has managed to merge two completely different eras, making the trips from place to place and time to time, swift and easy.
The characters are well defined with stories that carry emotion, love, struggle and pleasure. The slightly sexy scenes are easy-to-read with no rough imagery.
The narration is fluent and absolutely lovely, I could easily see each scene in my mind.
I must mention that, even though I have read too much about vampires and werewolves recently, the characters in this book seemed new and fresh to me.
The imagery, specially in the older eras, is perfect, I could almost feel the different materials mentioned and smell the scents of Araceli's body oils.
Ms. Secorsky has managed to take me through time, to places I've never been to, and make me feel right at home.

Kristin Secorsky has written a wonderful story that has so much going for it. She has written a story line that makes you keep reading, there is so many questions you want answered (who is Skye) why can't she remember, Will she still want Androcles after she realizes who she is to him.

Kristin has a talent for bring the ancient history of the story an bring it forward to modern times without it being confusing. This book also has steamy sex, tons of action, jealousy, hidden secrets which will having you go OMG. Nothing says fulfilling story like Vampires, Werewolves, Gladiators, Fairies and Ancient times. I finished this story in one setting and have reread it a couple times since. It is a great book and I look forward to more from this up and coming author.

Shame... I really wanted to read this book. The blurb got me to get it (love PNR and HF), especially because it was a NTM author. But after certain...revelations, don't think that I'll bother to waste any of my precious reading time.

What a great read! It was a mixture of historical fiction, Twilight, and Fifty Shades all wrapped into one! I didn't want it to end, but looking forward to the next book!

A must read!!! If you're into mythology, archeology, history, and a little romance thrown in, then this book is amazing. Kristin takes you to many places and there are secrets amongst the characters, which flow with ease in this book. It's a book that you can't put down until it's finished!!! What would you do if you were cursed with immortality? And Skye is a very strong female lead character. I could go on, but I just don't want to be a spoiler!!! And this isn't a long book, so you can read it in 2 days for sure. I just love the settings and going back into time. That was incredible and the writing is as well. Kristin, I can't wait for the next installment!! You have a new dedicated fan and I'm so happy I have my signed book from you!! Thank you with all my heart for that!! I'm glad I won that prize!!! What a treasure....

Sincerely a fan always,

I really enjoyed this book and hope there is another one coming. I really loved the story about Androcles and Araceli. I wish there was more about Skye and Andy. All in all this was a really good quick read and I hope there is another one to pick up where this one left off. I am really looking forward to more from this author.

This book had a little of everything. I immediately fell in love with the characters. I was surprised when the story took the unexpected twist about Skye and Andy! This story is an improvement from her earlier books but I still regret wasting my time on this one. The incest in the story is so ironic to me after learning more about Kristin and her family. I have read many other “erotic” novels and her writing ability is just disappointing. However on a personal level Kristin’s character and morals are even more disappointing. I would encourage everyone to think twice before giving her their support.

This is the first book I have read by Kristin Secorsky and after finishing the book I plan on reading more of her work.

I loved the story between Androcles and Araceli. I loved how Androcles was recommended to become a guard for Araceli. But not until after Amara and her companion Chixtus was after him to make him Amara's. Luckily that failed well somewhat. Anyway As he became her guard and stood by her they both fell in love with each other. But there were a few downfalls.

The first was when Marcus (Araceli's father) was to have her Marry. Which she ended up Marrying Antonious after her father found out about her and Androcles love for each other. He had him sold to the slave world where Androcles ended up in the hands of Amara again along with her husband Tiberius and his son Lucian. Amara was a vampire and Tiberius and Lucian was a werewolf. Later on after Androcles was fighting he got injured to where Amara turned him. Amara noticed Araceli's love for Antonious and left her to die but not before taking away her memory. She also left her husband to die along side Araceli. She held Androcles captive until she thought it safe to let him free. Lucian found his father and Araceli in the cell and freed them in time before the eruption. Araceli was pregnant with twin but had no memory of anything when she came to. Lucian took care of her. When it was time to give birth she saw who Lucian was. But allowed him and his father to help her with the birthing. She passed out and was about to die from bleeding out when Oona the Queen of the fae's came and gave her some of her essence. She even gave her essence to the babies. In hopes they would kill Amara.

Second centuries later Skye was in discomfort because Marcus who she had been seeing leaked out something that ended up ruining her. She found out that Andy was actually Androcles but had no memory of him. She found out cause her love Lucian came for her after hearing what happened. When she got some of her memory back they went off to kill Amara. As the fight begane Amara killed Lucian and Skye killed Amara. At that moment she got her memory back. She was in deed Araceli. She morned the lose of Lucian but was also in love with Androcles. She told him what happened when she was found in the cell. She told him about his kids Willow and wolf and her child she had with Lucian Faelan.

Yes I wish there was more to the story or even put into a trilogy. But its a good read and I highly recommend it. I know your reading my review and it seems all over the place. Go buy the book and read it. You'll know what I am talking about ;-)

How do you categorize Kristin Secorsky's first published book, “The Immortal Scrolls”? Is it gladiator? Paranormal? Romance? Erotica? The answer to each of those, and more, is “yes, at least in part”.

1st century centurion / gladiator lost his beloved Araceli in the 79AD eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. He's wandered the world since then (a story or stories which I assume Miss Secorsky will share with us one day), until returning to Herculaneum in the present day. After a minor earthquake, Archeologist Skye Morgan discovered some scrolls in a hidden area of a gladiator ludus of the ruined city; “Andy” is brought in to translate. But, how disruptive to see that Skye has such a resemblance to the long-dead Araceli – and worse, that she is having an affair with an Italian co-worker.

Miss Secorsky successfully transitions between the 79 A.D. Roman empire and modern day Naples throughout the book. Her characters are compelling, and the descriptions of the scenery vivid enough to make me feel that I am there – without turning the novel into a travelogue. She also demonstrates that she acknowledges and honors a border between romance and erotica (crossing that line several times during the book) and between erotica and pornography (stopping at the border between the two, at least a border I can acknowledge – her love scenes are hot, but are not graphic enough to qualify for inclusion in Letters to Penthouse.)

Unfortunately, my admiration for Miss Secorsky's novel must exclude the climax. Events in this book lead to an inevitable climax, one which she quickly disposes of in a few pages. How can we spend 120 pages carefully leading up to a battle, but not devote at least one long chapter to the actual fight? I can appreciate her desire to not bore the reader, but even a modern day attention span cries out for more detail than we were provided.

Despite our disagreement with her handling of this important aspect of the book, I greatly enjoyed the author's initial foray into novels, and immediately placed an order for a copy of the next book in the series, “Immortal Beginnings: Amara”, which promises to fill in part of the backstory of some of the characters introduced in this book.

RATING: 4 stars.

A story that alternates in time between Rome 79 AD and Naples 2011 and a long lost love that has survived through the ages.

Interesting premise but just not my cuppa tea. I guess I'm old fashioned and prefer one on one romance no matter the sub category of genre.

Loved the cover.

4.0 out of 5 stars Roman society meets vampires, werewolves, and the fae, July 14, 2013

This review is from: The Immortal Scrolls (Kindle Edition)
Roman society meets vampires, werewolves, and fairies in this easy read book. The story line has original ideas and great characters. If you love paranormal romance books, this book is for you.
Lots of action and love scenes will keep the pages turning with the well described scenes and fleshed out characters that are done in great detail. It is a short read and a little choppy at times but overall I give Kristin Secorsky 4 stars and am waiting for book two.

The anticipation nearly killed me, but this book made it more than worth the wait! Once again Kristin Secorsky returns with that oh so amazing attention to detail. A lot of my favorite characters returned in those one which was a huge plus! Another glossary and historical detail made it so easy to slip right into this book. The more I read this series the more it makes me think of Anne Rice in the most flattering way possible. This is an author that's certainly going places and I fully expect great things from her!

I think the overall storyline was good but much of the words from the Roman times seemed more modern than how many of them spoke. I'm glad the lovers were reunited and it turned out okay, I was just hoping for more excitement.

Interesting

I found this interesting but would have liked it better if the pacing was a little more consistent. The first half of the book kinda dragged and the second half was very fast making it feel like an info dump. Overall an interesting story.
