Rilynne Evans was just beginning to adjust to her new life in Addison Valley when tragedy struck.
Along with her new partner, Detective Todd Matthews, she found herself working against the clock in search of the killer who claimed the life of one of their own. Before she was able to make any headway in the case, a horror from her past comes back to haunt her, leaving her special skill affected. She is forced to rely on her ability as a profiler to track down the murderer before it is too late.
"Deception with Murder", second in the Rilynne Evans Mystery series, has the same ups and downs as the first book. The mystery is solid and the police investigation is logical - Rilynne's visions are helpful but sometimes cryptic (you'll know when you get to the monkeys!). Her love life remains on hold even as her husband is declared officially dead - there is certainly room for him to surface at some point in the future, but he'll have a lot to explain. On the down side, it is badly in need of more proofing. It's a pity because it undermines the book. It's a 3.5 Star book rounded down to 3 Stars. P.S. I spent my entire working career as a journalist - the rule is simple, never make the final corrections on your own work. That's why publications have sub-editors. We are all somewhat blind to our writing oddities, yet another reason why your work needs to be checked by someone else, and preferably someone who has a clue.
A very good series. Rilynne is an interesting character with her psychic dreams it gives extra ability in her detective work. Finding out who murdered an undercover policeman is her task in this story.
It would benefit from a bit more polish, especially regarding possessives, but that is mostly line edits. Overall it's an enjoyable read and a decent mystery.
