John Paulits creates some amazing off-world characters, but my favorite is Jophena, a pre-teen girl who usually manages to hitch herself like a burr to every adventure in which his main character, Lanyon, manages to embroil himself.

In NEMESIS, Lanyon is hired to protect a memory disc from a ferocious group of blackmailers who, not unexpectedly, want to snatch it for nefarious purposes. This should be an easy enough task for Lanyon and his not-so-secret weapon, a "rator" short for disintegrator, but Jophena just happens to come along on this jaunt, too, and life gets extremely interesting, not to mention perilous, for Lanyon.

Paulit's books work equally well for Adult, New Adult, and Young Adult audiences. Highly recommended for your kids who think reading's a bore. John Paulits won't bore them, and may just turn them into avid readers.
